I visited Saipan in 1972,Garapan was several buildings,The Hafadai motel ,a spirits store and a few others.I was on a training assignment for Xerox. I became a Buddhist after visiting Suicide point and discovering The Goddess of Peace.I am a ww11 Pacific combat vet.
Wen I last visited Saipan in 1976, there were 2 new high rise hotels, both very nice. Garapan was little more than a village with a few buildings from the 1950's. It is amazing how much it has changed.

I think manegaha is kind of ruined for me, there are so many umbrellas, a shop, a restuarant, a bathroom?! And the part that sucks the most is that there is a swimming boundery aand there are so many tourists, that we had to camp in the isolated area, but it was nice. - a saipan islander
+It'sEccaB how often do i need to walk from the end to end of the island? i'd have a hard time making it between buildings across all the parking lots and roads. look at this place, it's fucking hideous! all the while there's no roads in or out of this place, how uneconomical. the planners there must be total dicks.
+It'sEccaB I don't think it's much to do with laziness, the problem is bad urban planning where it takes a fucking fortnight to make it between your house and a point of interest (ex. stores, workplaces, amenities) the uses are segregated and distantly connected by automobile-oriented infrastructure. so now every building is in a sea of parking, the roads are fucking highways, and we dull the horror of it all with green spaces. if we quit dicking around so much we'd end up with something like venice, or toledo, spain.
