    I had a contax G1 . Camera worked great when it focussed correctly. I got rid of it for that reason , it was a hit and miss with that camera. True that offer great zeis lenses, but for the price you pay now these days for lenses, I'd rather invest in Pentax, Olympus OM lenses and Minolta. plus the Contax are range finders, I'd rather shoot SLR any day of the week. Thanks for the content.

    Bro, Maxxum 5 was my first introduction to film photography like 6 years ago. Found it at a thrift for $20 and Minolta Maxxum series, especially the 5 is super underrated. Blew me away. I went to Germany and someone stole it at my hostel and I was devastated. Since then I went through a ton of “professional” and highly desired cameras like the Olympus Stylus’ Olympus XA, Mamiya RB and some highly sought out rangefinders and man nothing gave me the feeling and results of shooting my Maxxum 5. Recently found a good one for a good price and shot with it again. I’m not touching another camera ever again. I’m gonna stock up on the dead stock Maxxum 5 that I can find.

      Happy to hear many people feel the same about this camera. I honestly find it so easy to use. Fun to use. And find the results to be the most dependable. I like manual cameras as well but this is next level on making sure you get the shot.
      I hope you find a good prime lens. This camera made me want a Sony A99 or even a Sony A900

    Daniel, It's Alex, the car that you asked is a 1954 Buick Special, as my Dad had one when I was little - as his car was Sky Blue, with White Top, and I remember in riding it coming back from the Presidio, I must of been 5 or 6 when I place my finger and he closed the door while my finger was still in the door well. Ouch, Well Yes I agree that is the poor's man's G2 as I remember my co-worker had the G2, and how he was just bragging, and I just brought my Dad's Contax IIa just to see in what it will cost to get it back to top shape. I use to work at a Camera Store in San Francisco for 33 years. Well that is another story. But getting back I have a Nikon FG which it was Nikon's smallest SLR with Aperture, and Program, and Manual setting. As I could still use my old Nikkor lenses since I got them AI converted. Your Minolta is AF which my FG is manual focus but I love it. Love the Dog. He is so Cute...

    I have a Minolta maxxum 5 I bought on eBay during covid. The shredder blades were not operating correctly but I found a video on CZcams showing me how to easily fix it. I did buy a Minolta 5400 HS Speedlight for it mainly to take advantage of Bounce flash indoors.

    The G2 comparison is especially apt if you find yourself a Sony A-mount 85mm f2.8 lens. It's purported to have the exact same optical formula as the Carl Zeiss Sonnar 90mm f2.8 made for the Contax G series, in a light plastic body and with a much shorter minimum focus distance.

      For only the body probably 20-40. I assume that they might get a bit more expensive in the next years.. it is a "newer" analoge camera which at the moment seems to be considered a bad thing because it doesnt look retro enough. I think its a positive for sure. If you find one that is in good condition go for it. Film is expensive anyway, who cares if you pay 20 bucks too much for the camera :)

    • @danieldijo
      @danieldijo  Před 2 lety +1

      Like the canon rebel 2000/ elan models. These are priced fairly. They made quite a few and not too hard to find. A lot were made. Agreed retro looking ones seem to be more popular simply on look.

    • @danieldijo
      @danieldijo  Před 2 lety +2

      My favorite lense is the 50mm. 35-70mm I have is alright sharp as kit lenses are. I really want to invest in an 80mm soon.

    I don’t see the point of shooting film in 2022. It’s very expensive to buy and process film and on top of that you still use a scanner or a camera to take a picture of the negative to digitise it. Why are there so many film photographers in 2022, they still scanning making it a digital camera. What you think?

    • @danieldijo
      @danieldijo  Před 2 lety +3

      I definitely think it’s the experience of film. The nostalgic vibe from the results. We often gravitate towards film our families used growing up. And there are just as many digital photographers trying to emulate film in their photos. For me it’s the slowing of shooting film. Less photos and waiting to see results. Less pictures taken but I think about why I want to take a photo. Or if I even should. Most photographers don’t question if or why and end up with more photos they don’t like. The risk and success ratios through film. A lot of mistakes can be made through the process. Once I get my photos scanned I do little to no editing. I have learned to develop and scan on my own to cut costs. Again all preference. If I did shoot digital again I would try to emulate the film experience forsure. Mirrorless camera with Viewfinder only with shot preview turned off. Lock the ISO. Have my own self made Lightroom presets.

      Film cameras there's always the thrill of a happy accident. Some of the cameras from the fifties and earlier don't have any type of Double Exposure prevention as the shuttercock mechanism is separate from the film advance lever. I forgot to advance the film in an old Kodak Pony camera and got a great image that would not of existed that if I've been using a digital camera or a film camera prevents double exposures from occurring. I've controlled film can handle a little more overexposure and digital can.

      Thanks Craig, I hope you go thrifting and find a Contax G@ for $5. Then you step outside of Thirft store, trip on yourself, bust your lip and it falls into a water well. Music copywrites issue on YT are hard to deal with. beginner channel so ill fix this.
