    ❤ your amazing thank you. I loved it when you said wash the dishes and clean up. Some people I know want to keep a Hog pin with zero bug's 😂 we know that doesn't work.

      So true. Ants are just looking for food when they come into our RV. So if you give them plenty to snack on, it's hard to get rid of them. Thanks for watching and leaving a nice comment too!

    Terro is great! You may see an increase in ant traffic to the trap for a couple of days ...then suddenly they will just be gone.

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Před 5 lety

      You are so right Bruce. That's the way it works. It takes a couple of days for the ants to get enough back to their nest, but when they do, no more ant problem. Thanks for your comment!

    I live in ant kingdom and knew immediately that I had to take control right away! I also have wasps of all types! I’ve used peppermint spray around the outside and underneath my trailer in all the openings. This has seemed to make a difference to keeping the critters away, but I have to spray every 3-5 day. One of the benefits is my camper smell great! The pool DE is (correct me if I’m wrong) lethal to our lungs. I think there is a food grade at earthworks for crawling insects that’s not harmful. I’ve also taken packing paper and balled it up like a wasp nest placed it at different spots under my trailer and this has also made a big difference. I’m going to try the terro for the ants! Thanks much

      Ants and insects are really tough challenges for RVers in hot and humid climates. The peppermint spray is a great idea, but like all natural insect remedies it requires being applied often as you mentioned. Pool DE should only be used outside the RV so you don't have to breathe it in. Just sprinkle it liberally around anything that touches the ground on the outside. A lot of RVers swear by it. Terro baits work well too!

      When you poof out the Diatomaceous earth from your bottle...[ketchup bottles or dish soap bottles work great, as they have an area the DE can set in and you lightly poof it over the area to be covered]. Now when poofing it out, and please use food grade, not pool DE.....wear a mask and glasses, and do not breathe in the small cloud that comes out, as your eyes could bother you and possibly nose. Once it 's on the ground , it's fine. You only use a fine mist...no more is needed. It kills bugs by penetrating the skeleton, not through ingesting, so takes a lil time. Boric acid mixed with a bit of sugar and lil water, will kill through ingesting. I usually use both methods if I ever have an infestation, but will also be trying the peppermint spray around tires now.

      How do you create the water? Just soak it in peppermint leaves?

      A lot of people say that it works well for them. Just remember that you have to reapply it after a rain. I hope it helps Maurice.

    Thank you! We just purchased a used RV from a dealer and the first nice day this year. All the ants came out! We’ve baited them and will remove the food source. Where would an ant colony typically be in an rv? We can visibly see all the scout ants however where are the rest living? They must have been hibernating inside this rv for the winter. The trailer is new to us and we want them out!

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Nicole. Sorry to hear about the ant problem, but it's pretty common to start seeing them in your RV by this time of the year. Actually, the colony may not even be in your RV. The main colony could be outside instead and the ants are just transferring the food they find to the colony out there. That's why it's also a good idea to spray any ant hills you find outside the rig too. I hope you have lots of success with your ant battle! :-)

    • @nicolea9509
      @nicolea9509 Před 2 lety +1

      @@RVInspectionAndCare the trailer is currently parked in a newer barn on a concrete floor, we have never ever had ants inside the barn and we are 99.9% confident that are in the trailer. Would they typically hibernate in the hvac systems?

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Před 2 lety +1

      @@nicolea9509 That's hard to say Nicole. The best way to identify their source is to look for a trail of ants moving through the trailer. If you leave some food out for them, they will find it and there will be a resulting trail of ants carrying that food back to the colony. Then you can find the source and deal with it as you wish.

    I’m watching my parents’ cat for them and the ants found her food and now I’ve got ants all in my trailer. Your tips all worked when I had mice in my trailer. Haven’t had mice since. I will be trying everything in the morning because I just woke up in the night to one biting me in my bed. I’ve got ants in my bed!!! I’m declaring war!!! I’m taking back my home!!!

    We live in Florida. Right now is the rainy season/hurricane season. I have heard that diamatreous earth does not work when it is wet. Is there anything else that I can try?

    • @RVInspectionAndCare
      @RVInspectionAndCare  Před 4 lety +2

      Hi Anne. DE is pretty effective and you are right that when it gets wet it loses a lot of that effectiveness, but it's cheap. So you can apply it again after the rain or you can also use it inside the RV in strategic places. It works both indoors and outside. Other natural choices are comet cleanser and cornmeal. Apparently, they eat the cornmeal, and later when they drink water it expands and destroys them. I have also heard that a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water works well. I hope that helps.

      I'm honestly not sure Barbara. It would be good to research that before using any of these remedies in your RV.
