video topic: what can one do in order to refurbish a portable antenna that is showing bare wire? torch to burn off the excess old material, Heat shrink and a suction cap?
I have picked away the insulation many times and used glue lined heat shrink to reinsulate the antenna. Dont burn it away however. It works well but isnt as pretty as a new antenna however it will likely last for decades. What radio is the antenna for ? Thanks for the video idea and thanks for watching !
@@survivalcomms this ones that I acquired was a Bendix/King wasn't 12.5 khz spacing has been trashed and the other a was a GE M-PD they are just sitting in a box doing nothing...I enjoy your channel alot!
@@cmritchie04 Thank you very much. If you cannot remove the old antenna insulation you can shrink in place it has limited effect on the antenna. You can get an assortment of rubber automotive vacuum plugs for cheap for the antenna tip. I have a BK EPH in my collection and a KX99 . They were good radios back in the day .
