I absolutely love this. Systemic racism was put in place to make us feel ashamed of who we are.
When I immigrated 4 years ago, my eyes opened wide up as I came to the realisation of who I am, my rich cultural background and the uniqueness thereof.
Super proud to be a Cape Malay coloured, super proud of my accent, language, slang, food, hair and the list goes on.
Taliep Pietersen (legend) his story telling is something to brag about.
Julle twee maak nou my verlange nog grooter en my hart waawyd oop 🇿🇦

This was so interesting to watch as I lived in Jhb for a few years and one thing I can relate too, Joburgers are not familiar with Cape Malay culture and we should be proud as Fatima has said! Kassam na! 😁🤗 Thanks for this educational piece.

There is a narrative that is a bit misleading when it comes to the Afrikaans vernacular - what it truly is. It originated between the interaction with the BUSHMEN and Khoe, The Dutch and The Slaves from Indonesia and Batavia etc. It became formulated among these people in question and not solely among the Dutch and Malaysian Slaves, if it were so then history should have reflected that Afrikaans was the Franqua Lingua used amongst these peoples before they came to the Cape. However, history does reflect that it was a language that originated in the Cape among these people's and was a means of communication among these communities. The architects of Afrikaans are figures like Herri Autshumatu and his Niece Krotoa who were the interpreters for Jan when they arrived here because among them they could speak 5 different languages namely: Khoekhoegowab, Dutch, French, Portuguese and a bit of English tantamount to other additional Indigenous Languages and dialects. So as you can see my Brotha the narrative is somewhat messed up.
