- Ogryns are the descendents of human colonists that ended up on high gravity worlds, turning them into colossal, muscle-bound hulks capable of incredible feats of endurance and physical violence - perfect candidates for Imperial soldiery! READ MORE:
Brutally strong and completely loyal, Ogryns make for ideal Imperial troops, though their limited intellect does mean their value is limited to simple and direct assaults. Some of them will display a glimmer of intelligence - like being able to say which letter their name begins with - and be selected for the Biochemical Ogryn Neural Enhancement procedure, becoming Bone'eads and squad leaders. Their equipment is sturdy and simple, letting them get to the important business of smashing the enemy about the head with it as quickly as possible!
Yes, the audio in this one isn't perfect, either; continuing construction on the neighboring building is a little difficult to filter out at the best of times, so apologies if this is a little tinny compared to usual. It's this or no video, unfortunately, so I'll record when I can and take what I can get out of it!
How I Paint Things is a series of simple instructional videos designed to help the newcomer through some of the basics and demonstrate how the very simplest techniques can still give you some great results that're easily replicated. Aimed at the beginner to painting miniatures, there might be one or two tips or tricks that help even you old hands!

I'd love to see what the GW sculptors could do to ogryns with the current technology. Even though these are classic models, the arms and head really do show the difference in detail from 25 years ago to now. You could see Mr Sledgehammer wanted pretty badly to add more definition to the skin, but its just so tough with them :) going with the old school style still made them look cool though, i just cant help wonder what they could do to them now (like the new obliterators for example)
These are newer models...
The famous background Ogryn finally gets painted! :D
Joke's on you! I had to make this one up last night, I can't find the background Ogryn... 😂
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio He figured out what's coming and decided do hide behind cover.
I've noticed your video quality getting better with each episode! Awesome work 👌
such a tidy paint job! lovely bubbly!
Idea for a future video - I’m sure I speak for all your regular viewers when I say, we would love to see some videos of your gaming collection; Your WWII, space marines, these imperial guard we’ve been hearing about.
I've actually got a video up from a while back where I show off some of my Guard! I should do the same for some of the other larger armies I've got, though. :)
Who has more fun than you when it comes to painting space marines and the like? Nobody! Thanks for another fun video that shows how easy it is to quickly paint a miniature! Cheers!
I'm pretty sure this hobby's meant to be fun, after all! Right? 😂
Sonic Sledgehammer Studio So true! But nobody does it like you! Cheers!
A Very impressive figure and a cracking paint job.just love your videos.keep them coming.ACW next please....🤔😉🙂
Nice guide. Adding a couple of Ogryns for blackstone fortress.
An excellent choice. They're great miniatures, a ton of fun to fool around with. :)
You think red weapon casings are goofy? Well my guardsmen's armor is red! Granted, I do use Khorne Red, but it's still red.
Lovely vid as usual mate. Would like to see a Iron Hands Steel and wash side by side with a Leadbelcher and wash. Love a quick cheat and not having to highlight something is an excellent cheat.
Hi glad to see you back enjoyed the British infantry man very sorry to hear about your mum cant wait to see you make even more video s all the best
Love your content man, excellent presentation and easy to follow painting techniques. Thank you mate, been watching your videos for a while and subscribed ages ago THANK YOU!!
I watched this as a guide and it was the prefect video to get my foundations going for my ogryn army. Thank you!
I love the way you paint things!
That's one of the best Ogryns I've seen. Well done!
Another great tutorial! I like the highlighting you did on the and leather parts. Thanks for sharing this as it was very helpful.
Thanks, John! I figured it'd be worth showing off a handful of the new paints at a time. I've been finding some of those new colours really useful, and Knight-Questor Flesh is up near the top of that list for a ton of stuff.
Great video as always, sonic! It's thanks to you I actually finished a project for once, my genestealer cult is no longer a sea of grey plastic! I used a mix of your two non-contrast neophyte videos and I'm thrilled with the results! Also red weapon casings are the best! Ultramarines just aren't the same without em!
Glad to hear it! Nothing quite beats the feel of a finished army. :D
wow man such steady hands i am so jealous :P phenomenal work as usual!
Another nice presentation. I'll get on mine after my nap.
Thank you .
Nicely painted mini. Your style is more subdued than mine. I like extreme highlights. Many ways of doing a task. Happy hobbying. Bill
I like that you don't paint the eyes. Makes me feel better about skipping them on my own models.
It's very rare that I bother to paint eyes. When we put our miniatures on the table to play games, you simply don't see them! It also doesn't help to have a great paint job go sideways at the last second with eyes pointing in different directions...!
I totally agree! It's hard to get right. My models often are stuck with a fixed surprised look on their faces. Better to skip that step sometimes.
That *magic* transition from painted - sealed - based :D
Getting all fancy now ! This is a great (and timely) video - I'm looking to grab a box of these fellas for my Guard Kill Team.
Wait a second, you can take Ogryns in Kill Team now?! Oh man, I need to keep up!
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio yup. They are in the Elites book (aka the rules part 2) they are 30/40-ish points but hit like a armored bus!
Great practical work. Thank you.
Love Agrax earth shade. I’m a historical war gamer. So need a couple hundred figures at least per army or period. This with Null oil, man they are a God send...👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.
Can't get enough of it! Shades and washes are a must-have in any painting arsenal. Once you've got the hang of block colours, a quick shade does most of the rest of the work for you, and with big blocks of infantry you can't go wrong with 'close enough.' ;)
Great vid as usual, will be useful for my guard, I'm looking to create a purely a purely elite special forces / tempustus corps, will definitely include some of the bullgryns. I was also wondering if the idoneth deepkin are an army you collect / would consider painting?
Keep up the good work as usual
Nicely done, great tutorial!
Outstanding video thank you
Like it as always! I would have liked to see 1st highlight Bugman's glow then start in your other choices of color in highlights to see how that transitioned up, curious the look? love the vids, keep them up
I've tried the Bugman's Glow back over the basecoat and shade before, and in honesty it doesn't seem to make a huge amount of difference. It's a little smoother, but you'll still need a couple of coats of Cadian Fleshtone to get that to sit right no matter how you do it. It does look a little more natural if you're blocking in areas with different shades, though; Bugman's as a layer stage over Bugman's Glow and then Reikland Fleshshade can work really well instead if you want a warmer, less sharply defined skin tone.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I typically do 50/50 Bugmans + Cadian after the wash stage. Typically I always mix 50/50 then solid color then mix 50/50 next highlight color etc.
I love these models.
I love ogryns, they're the best. I wish I could commissar them.
Awesome paint job! Consider to paint the new Warcry stuff?
Sorry But I have three Squads of Metal Orgryns but they look the smaller brothers to the larger plastic ones and have a look at Victoria Miniatures they have a great group of Resin Ogryns, so I have different fighting Squads, cheers from DownUnder.
I never knew there was a Citadel paint app!!
Thanks mate. I've been looking for a method to paint my 2nd edition ogryns.
Very tempting to do that gun red it pops so well
Ogyrns are dope
This is absolutely correct. :D
Thousands thumbs up, really loved watching it. May I ask, I saw you often use the red-grass 2 (also older videos). Do you also have the feeling that this brush soak up plenty color which makes it tip hard to control ? And do you have a method to control that better? thanks Maestro Di Colori
I really like the RG brushes, too. I find the tip is usually very good. If you're having any trouble with controlling paint flow from the brush, first try less paint loaded in it; the brush is generally holding more paint than it needs and with good flow you'll need to use less paint in general.
Ogryn Ogryn Ogyrn - oi oi oi!
Once you've got his attention, he's going to need orders! Nothing more dangerous than a bored Ogryn...
Happy man, I have been made, thank you! 😂
Excenent video man! One question: what brush are you using (skin with cadian fleshtone part)
That one's still my Army Painter Regiment brush. It's probably a little big in some areas, but for the larger flat areas of skin it works super well. A Medium Layer brush or equivalent will do the job, though!
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio so Would you recommend it? I'm looking for new brushes as my GW are starting to die :/.
TAhnks for reply and have a good day :D
I really like the Army Painter brushes. They go well alongside the Citadel range, too. Cheaper by a little bit though, so that's something else to consider!
In the lore are Ogryns supposed to be 'big dumb hulks' or are they just as intelligent as other guardsmen?
"Ridiculous" is precisely why we love Warhammer.
Also doesn't really feel like a proper video if you're not generously bathing a model in that Agrax magic lol
It's been a while, right? Feels good to get the big brush out... 😂
Another question mate - what brand and size do you use for grass tufts? Going to take the plunge but range and size of tufts is huge.
This chap is the darker of the two tuft choices from GW. Middenheim Turf, I think? They're dead good. I'd also suggest checking out both the Army Painter range and Gamer's Grass, they've got some great options.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Cheers mate! I've been basing with Astrogranite and small granite chips which looks pretty cool but a bit dull so want to add some dead/burned/dry tufts to break up the rubble look on the bases. Will check out the ranges you suggest.
Looks great :) I have one question you sprays only with Zandri Dust or you use an other primer first? I watch other videos too and u you most of your painting video colour sprays.
With the Citadel coloured primers and Army Painter as well, you don't need a black or white primer first. They're designed as a primer and basecoat, so they save time! The one exception would be if you're using yellow primer - I'd suggest you will still get a better result with a quick white layer first, before applying yellow.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio thank you alot for your comment and help, keep your good work =)
Ave Gav.
where can we buy 3d models from please..
Do you prime with a spray or paint from a pot?
Always a spray. It's a different material to straight paint, so the primer gives your next layers something to stick to. You can find some brush-on primers, but generally a spray is your best choice.
thx
What varnish do you use?
Munitorum Varnish, it's GW's semi-satin spray can stuff.
