the real Brother’s War
😆😆😆
Good one
Lmao
Underrated comment
Dude, that ending line is so wholesome
"I'll be tapping it along with my brother."
Mmm. Yes.. WHOLESOME
🤣 I picked up on the same thing
The fact that your brother was going to wait until damage to pump the Shade already shows how far ahead you two were.
Twin brother? You're telling me there's TWO Carls?!
Well, his name is not Carl 😅 imagine parents naming both of their twin sons the same thing
Carl 1 and Carl 1 too add to the confusion
Shadow Realm Carl except it is Karl
@@KnicKnac Karl, the Silver Brother
Carl is the R/U/B one and his twin is colorless aligned.
Due to powercreep, Nantuko Shade must now live in its new brother’s shadow.
Thanks Karl. This was great. From your attitude, to the nostalgia, I'm right there with you.
my favorite case of power creep is the pirate's pillage to big score went through a couple of iterations in between (seize the spoils and unexpected windfall) and then finally settled on big score, an instant version of pirate's pillage
I believe Unexpected Windfall is also an Instant.
@@brandyourfan9244 yes, but it has 2 red instead of one.
@@Camexagon That's fair. I didn't notice that distinction
When I saw Misery's Shadow I was so excited to see an updated shade! brought back a glimmer of childhood when I was pumping frozen shade with skeletons held back for defends
Oh wow that last line broke my head open
Almost brought a tear to my eye. My first foray into Magic was Time Spiral followed up by Lorwyn. Suspend and certain tribal payoffs always tend to evoke a similar feeling in me
Totally miss the invasion, odyssey, onslaught blocks with 7th edition. Some of my best magic memories were had back then.
Same, I started with Masques/6th/Invasion. Good times.
Started with Onslaught and I concur.
Great video.. so much in just a minute! Well done cardmakret
The last line is sooooooo sweeet, awwwwwwww
This was the most poetic piece of Magic content I've seen
Not that I don't respect this short, but have you seen Rhystic Studies?
I feel this, one of my fav cards when I played standard was Dread Shade, arguably a worse version! But damn that pump scary
I like power creep to an extent. While it may invalidate some older cards, it also makes all archetypes stronger, and more interesting to play.
Did he say he was tapping his brother in the backyard… I mean your twins so I guess it’s okay? Idk lol hahaha
Good ol' days. Nantuko shade ❤️
That first ability is also a really good buff that fits so well with the original card: you swing in, and if they make the mistake of blocking too hard, they not only lose their creatures but get them exiled, or if they don't block you can drop the open mana on a removal spell and exile something anyway. Really works with the flavour of the original + the updated strength for modern magic.
Misery’s shadow was the mvp of my prerelease deck. It did so much work and would kinda go under the radar for how much it was doing.
Many cards go under the radar at spoiler season and then, as soon as people play limited with them, become format staples. It happened to ledger shredder, and now misery's shadow is even being played in pioneer! :)
Thank u! you talked about two things I love, wholesome power creep and reframing nostalgia. Nostalgia does not have to be photo copied to be relived and often photos copying nostalgia diminishes it without reframing. As a game designer power creep is one of the most tiring conversations I still encounter to this day. Game enthusiast laymen don't understand that most implemented power creep is functional but neutral and more of it is wholesome than toxic.
this just brought me back in time
Great text, great editing, great take on it. This is a little gem of a video, please keep putting great content out there guys 💪❤
Thank you! 😃
Aaaaah yes, nantuko shade and phantom nishoba, that was the stuff of dreams for 10yo me.
aah, tapping stuff together with our brothers, gotta love it
Odyssey block was and will always be my favorite.
Nirkana revenent is a 6 mana 4/4 that makes swamps tap for another black and can get +1/1 until end of turn for black. Best ramp card for offense/defense
I remember wicked Akuba in standard thinking back to torment and then realizing the akuba was ok but not nantuku shade
My favourite bad tribe with no support
this was an amazing little video
Funny, my first ever mtg deck runs Nantuko Shade. It was back in the Onslaught block and 3 of us in our playgroup plays zombie decks.
Great Short!
I wanted to open all the Nantuko Shades back in the day.
Great story telling dude
Cute ending line there
Ha, you kids and your new shades. I still rock OG Frozen Shade. It's bump is permanent. Says do right on the card
Goat not gonna cap 🐐
The true Brothers War
You do be tapping big bro like that.
I still miss sizzler Phoenix.
Powercreep is kind of like gravity in that it's really not negotiable.
But I do hope they rein it back enough
That's crazy, I was just thinking about how nantuko shade isn't at all playable last night. I like thjs new upgrades ability to exile creatures though.
Nantuko shade was also from a time before the design team switched to a board-centric game of magic. Creatures used to be less powerful and spells were more powerful until they realized over time that games are more engaging and interactive when the strong cards play to the board.
The major shift towards board-centric magic is arguable around M10 when Baneslayer Angel was the talk of the town and the "best" creature in magic.
Now it's pretty meh because of power creep, lol
tapping it with your brother 👁👄👁
Yeah man. I'm loving this new card. Not sure if it's going to be a player or not though.
Ayo I just got two of these in the pre release today. Sick!
Powe creep is the death of a franchise. It has a 100% effectiveness so far
Nicely spoken. Enjoyed your video. Took me back as well.
I like shades.
Awww the feels
A new piece for black Tron
K'rrik Son of Yawgmoth entered the chat
ah a magic table were i still know the cards lol
Man you gotta phrase that differently, sounds like you're tapping your brother lmao
This is sweet :)
Reaper from the abyss still a beast
Play Premodern, where you get to enjoy all these old cards again
Wholesome
New hatebear for my Kabal deck let's gooooo
It's too bad it doesn't add as much devotion, but this thing is _infinitely_ more splashable.
I run the shade in my K'rrik deck. And the shadow just can't replace it. With k'rrik I can play and pump shade for life making effectively free. But the shadow not so much.
Nantuko shade to this is perfect, power creep done well. Ragavan and whoever designed it though...well let's just say I don't think people who design cards that broken should be working at WotC designing cards
You have a twin Karl?
How do we know which "Karl" is in the video!? Oh no.... Have we been deceived?
Killer bees!!! 4th edition.
Yes it’s easier to cast, it’s ability is easier to use, it’s a 2/2 now….buuuuut the effect exiling opponents creatures when they die is way more important in my opinion. That ability in black used to be on a 4 drop. Now it’s on a 2 which was usually only seen in white that cheap
Solid love
You have a twin?? You gotta invite him for a feature match. I wonder what he looks like...
My idea of good power creep is revisiting cards and mechanics from the past that weren't good enough for play when they came out and making newer, more powerful versions that are finally worthy of play, even in an environment where other cards and mechanics have gotten power creep.
Surprised they didn't make it fly.
Power creep is so hard to control. You can only fine tune new mechanics for so long until a clear power hierarchy starts to form. Artificial scarcity also plays a factor, albeit a good one. If you make good cards rarer and stop printing them after a while, they get diluted. The power 9 are the best in magic but also rare and expensive, allowing WotC to print much weaker cards and still attract customers.
Wait so you can get the effect multiple times if you pay it's mana cost multiple times???
Uhm, *ACKTUALLY* with the available mana, N-shade could turn into a 8/7 since it's a 2/1 and he had 6 mana open at the time.
It's written 8/7 and 2/1 in the subtitles because I noticed when editing the video ;)
@@CardmarketMagic
Ahh, I don't have subtitles open for shorts so I didn't see it.
But yeh, minor mistake, get bullied. Professor onxy truly is cackling at the magic error.
good power creep is like saying there is good diabetes
honest question, is power creep a problem in MTG? I personally haven't really noticed it but ive also only been playing for 5-6 years
As someone who started playing tcgs with yugioh, I am not worried about power creep in mtg at all
I don't understand the ravagan example, could anyone help?
Mishra's partially constructed workshop
Legendary land
Tap for 2 colorless only for artifacts and their activated abilities
I wanted that printed at mythic
I wanna be excited for new cards, not reprints n variants
ending a lil sus lol
Playing The Brother's War with your brother
Do you still feel like a Dinosaur when you eat Jerky ? Asking from Verdun
I feel like a dinosaur when I do anything really 🦖 👋
Cuuuuuuuute 😅
I was wondering the point...... great Segway
Bro you might want to rephrase that last line
That last sentence was sus
Schrodinger’s 8/8 lol
Your points would be fine if staples were cheap. But I cant afford to keep "updating" my modern decks or be stuck playing with noncompetitive decks due to powercreep.
Why can't you just block with one creature...? Then even if it's a 12/12, it doesn't have trample
You're tappin your brother? Phrasing dude lol
Sounds like jimmy fallon lol
oh boy
AWWWWWW ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Exactly
Power creep can be good because of..
Nostalgia?
Is that it?
But no one’s playing misery’s shadow
Ot was very commonly played in pioneer and standard at the time this video came out 👍
Make the pump cost a black, then it could be fine.
Restrictions are fun though it's why magic was successful because it had the color pie and it mattered now the best draw card in Brothers War is a boros card..... if ever color can do everything what's the point
Wait , he tapped his brother in the backyard in 2002? Should we call somebody?
This power creep is obscene. +0/+1, easier to cast, easier to pump, AND an unrelated graveyard hate ability. WTF?
Oh Brother
