    When someone throws you the keys to a Maybach, what do you do?
    I was field director for my kids football teams and one of the grandparents of a player was the originator of a well known world wide toy company. My friend was the CEO at the time after taking over the business, and he had a couple of nice cars, but his dad is on another level. He owns over 30 cars (and 3 boats and a private jet) that he had shipped back and forth from his winter base in Florida. Amongst all his vehicles, (which included Rollers, Bentleys, Mercedes McLaren SLR etc.) his favorite car was his Maybach. Actually he owned two of them, one a short and one the longer wheelbase.
    He showed up at the field in his 57S one day and a few people were gathered around looking at it. He showed it off for a few minutes and then went to the sidelines to watch the game.
    My boss and his wife also had a son on the team and when the arrived we were in the parking lot talking about the car and I said 'hold on...I'll get the keys from Mr.B to show you the inside'. I walked over to him and asked if I could show his car to my boss. Mr. B says 'don't just show it to them....take them for a spin.'...and he throws me the keys to his $400000 car. I said 'you're shitting me'. He says, 'it's a car...it's meant to be driven...don't worry...I have two of them'😁
    I came back to the Maybach and Greg got in the passenger seat and his wife got in the back. She made the best choice. I got on the highway and we drove to the next exit and turned around. We knew there were no cops between the exits so I put my foot down. We hit 135mph before I had to slow down for re-entry😉
    I parked the car and brought the keys back and thanked him. He said of all his cars the Maybach was his absolute favorite to drive. I'm glad I got the chance to as well.

      @richardbussiere9178 Před 3 lety +7

      Hoovie knows what he's doing - his Maybach restoration will probably get hundreds of thousands or even a million views = $$$.
      Plus he's going to end up saving a vehicle that should be saved.
      Coincidentally I saw a Maybach in the flesh here in Singapore yesterday. In this country, (2.5x import duty + "Certificate of Entitlement") initial cost would have been north of $1M for such a car.

    This car was something special back in the day. The engineering started in 1994 according to Wikipedia. It looks far too much like a W220 Mercedes-Benz S-Class which makes people think that it’s nothing more than a stretched Sonderklasse unfortunately. I remember checking out one of these Maybach 57S models on the used car lot at an Audi dealership about 3 1/2 years ago. It’s a really impressive personal limousine to see in person. The Maybach 62S is even more impressive with its extra length.

    There was a black Maybach 57S for sale here in Sydney (Australia) _years_ ago, it was owned by a businessman with the initials KB. Turns out he was a crook and the 57S was seized and sold to recoup funds. Why do I remember this? His Maybach was one of only 13 that MB Aus managed to sell on this Island. I sat in that 57S and a 62, which was oddly at an AMG event. They were truly special vehicles... and they had to be at AU$1m each (after taxes).
    p.s. 57S had the 6.0 TT, similar to the engine found in AMG '65' models.

I find sharing takes the sting out of it. Oddly as cynical as your reviews are, they give me a great laugh every single one, so through bitter irony, you're bringing sunshine and rainbows to this snowflake. Sorry for your loss. My dad had me later in life as well. Mom was 13 years younger than him and they were married for 12 years before I came along. Your videos are the best. When you did the Berlinetta I seriously thought about buying it. The Miami Vice compartment was the key selling point. As a graduate in 79, I too dreamed of being in the international trade.

    Sorry to hear about your dad Bill. If he was anything like you then he was a hell of a man and would be proud to see what you have built thus far on CZcams.

    I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad a few years ago as well. We are all here for you. Thanks for another entertaining review which I always learn so much history which only you provide. Thanks again along with prayers for your family. I love the Polish culture their food, traditional clothing and etc as I grew up in New Jersey as we have a lot of Polish up there as well 🇵🇱👍 Please have a Merry Christmas as well. Please turn off the news they are giving everyone so much anxiety lately. Take care 🏁

    I prefer the longer wheelbase of that car, 62 S, the 57 is underwhelming a bit, but still a nice car..
    looks like a 14 year old S class Mercedes

    Bill says “ you open the back door and let out your lady of the evening” . But...was she Canadian like all of the other guests in his back seats?

    FYI.... Barbara Streisand drives a Ford F150 pickup truck. Dark blue. She often comes into where I worked. When we asked her why a truck she said she likes to go antiquing and it's just easier to have them put her purchases in the truck's bed if she finds something she likes.
