  • Dev Anand: "I am going to synchronise this film. You can shoot me called Mr. Prime Minister with the Anniversary of Indian Independence, and coincide it with my 60 years in Indian show business. This film was born on the day I was sitting on my sofa and I heard the news that India is facing a hung Parliament. For 10-12 days, nobody who was going to be the Prime Minister. So the idea struck me for a political satire."
Dev Anand records song for Mr. Prime Minister: rare never-seen-before footage, with Bappi Lahiri!
Bappi Lahiri : "I rapped with Amitabh Bachchan as well. But this was different with Dev saheb (Dev Anand). What he has done is unbelievable on his sixty years in the film industry, for Mr. Prime Minister. I used Indian instruments and beats. It is a total club song. It will definitely be a club hit all over the world. The title song that Dev saheb has rapped... I am very happy about it.
First we recorded it and then we sat in my studio... There are Indian classical rags in the background audio track. I always do something with a new style. I brought Samantha Fox and Boy George to India.

Man of great contemporary ideas who made film on the subject. Unfortunately did not click. Deserves appreciation for his energy and enthusiasm. Great.

I assume this interview was from the early 2000s, when Dev saheb was already almost 80. Despite this, he seems to allude the same charm and wits he was known for.
I find it a pity that most of his later films were so terrible. He got stuck in his own persona, thinking he could still pull off his legendary charm. As the industry changed around him, Dev Anand's directorial and acting sensibilities couldn't.
Still, at his heyday, he remains one of the greatest actors the country ever produced.

I'm sorry but I've always found this man's personality and his acting, both very over the top and cringeworthy. I know a lot of people from Gen X and early Gen Y really admire him because you've probably grown up watching him so you associate nostalgia with him; and I respect that. My opinion is a very objective and personal one with all due respect.

It was not always, he lost touch with reality when he grew older, he was one of the top most creative talents from 50s to early seventies

Depends which films you watched of his, films like CID, guide were good later when he became producer and director he made alot of mediocre movies and due to having money just churned out one crap after another irrespective of box office outcome. Nearly all of them were mega flops anyway
