Liszt is typically known for great beginner pieces like this
However, some say that his most difficult works reach early intermediate...
You're right. Another great beginner piece if his is don juan and norma :)
His 4th liszt/paganini Is good practice for chords when starting to learn what chord is
Great playing, but I am a little worried about Mr Trifonov’s spinal health.
I, as a beginner, keep having to correct my posture...then this dude does *this* at 0:10 lol
Agreed that he plays great tho
He's very tall, which makes it harder. In reality of course, using your spine a lot is far better than not using it at all. Frequent flexion is good for cartilage renewal
piano officially becomes a sport with these etudes. only an athlete could expend that amount of sustained force this takes. respect
Mike C to play Franz Liszt, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Frederic Chopin and Sergei Prokofiev you definitely need physical strength!
Thanks for the heads up. I am not macho, so I won’t waste my time practicing these types of repertoire.
@@Emma-ob5oj Don't forget Brahms and Schumann too! They have also some ridiculously hard pieces too. (Schumann's sonatas, toccata or Brahm's sonatas, paganini variations..)
3:20 the phrasing of the left hand and balance with the melody is perfection itself. Never heard it played so well.
Ikr it’s so weird that Luke Faulkner is on the classical section of CZcams
you're a very good looking guy and a very good pianist as well.thank you❤
Luke Faulkner why is there a small note next to your name but when you click on your channel your name doesn’t have it lol what
0:00 when the keys are HOT
Bongo Bobby what a wonderful sense of humor! you make me return to the start 100 times :)
@@blakecarterpiano its actually a really cool technique of getting ur fingers ready for the next hard chor.
Don't understand why this is one of the hardest piano pieces.....
Ah, just turned the volume on!
I found this piece quite easy and simple to play. All I had to do was push “play” on my CD player. After all, it wouldn’t have played by itself.
Wow, this is crazy. In my mind, this is exactly how you should play Liszt.
He is two months older than me and light years ahead in the mastery of the piano. He is definitely a constant inspiration. I personally couldn't care less if he makes quirky faces. Its his thing. The way he wants to be in that moment of his playing.
Those faces are what happens when you try to channel the composer ...and meet God on the way.
Obviously he is..... Why would you even bring uuup age? Does not make sense to me. When he would be 14 and you 50 it would still be the same.. He was always better than you will ever be because you are a zero kid
@@joha4574Trifonov is better than you as well, may I remind you. So why did you call this guy here a "zero kid" if you are one yourself?
Yes and I have never felt the need to point that out. @@sven-sandershestakov3294 His comment is just utterly stupid and non-sens ical
5:45 the vibrato in his left hand is amazing ive seen noone do it before
Soo musical ! He understands every "word"(note) written by Liszt. A very rare understanding of what music is telling. A genius.
Juliet0307 I don‘t think Liszt‘s show -off etudes are a good example of the musicality of a pianist.
Jo ha don’t you think that by playing etudes that are very difficult to use oneself’s musical imagination it takes a great pianist to be able to interpret it with such emotion?
Ray Chen said this on his channel. Every note is written for a purpose. Even an crescendo on a note that has already been played
for me this performance is one the best performances i've heard in classical music, thats just crazy.
You may take exception to some of his ideas, but you have so say that Trifonov 'gets' Liszt. It's an experience rather than merely a performance, as Liszt's own concerts assuredly were. Bravo!
I love how he just puts every little piece of his emotions to every piece he plays
So few pianists are aware of the style of playing prominent in the latter part of the 1800's and early 1900's. Here is a pianist not only with unmatched skill, but a true feel for Liszt's music. A priceless recording. (No, I wasn't there in the late 1800's, but there are many avenues of research, and yes, I do play the piano, but absolutely NOWHERE near this standard).
Very interesting how people in the 1800's played piano way differently
ain't nothing like when the beat drops on Mazeppa, that d minor chord into those wicked thirds sequence it's one of the best melodic effects of all time
I've heard so many versions of Liszt's studies, especially this one. I have to tell you ! It's a revelation for me, this artist is a Great one. Not only on the technical aspect but, the most important, his sense and approach of drama in Mazeppa leave me totally amazed and in owe. So much passion in this interpretation, you gave me strong emotions with a piece that I know by heart, yet. It's a discovery ! Sorry if my english is not perfect. Love, Julien from France.
Thanks, I agree! This has so much depth. He is not using it as a show piece but he enjoyed playing it.
Very powerful, Very musical and very virtuoso. You're great Daniil!!
Amazing playing!
Daniil is a piano phenomenon!
He is the best.
I love him, even his hands are so beatiful❤
He definitely knows how to play Liszt! He unveils the heart of the piece!
Magnifique !
7:25 he smiled because at that moment he knows that he absolutely nailed it!!! What an amazing performance!
In a performance i think he's just in full concentration in the piece, not thinking about his performance yet
am i the only one who actually loves all of his expressions and moves during the execution? it’s part of the interpretation and i think it’s beautiful and unique in its way
Yes, I can really see what's like to be in the music (like he obviously doesn't make any facial expressions which are completely unrelated)

THIS is a masterful performance by an excellent performer. The editing is also perfect, it lets his playing lead you through the performance. How hard is the arrangement he's playing? He's sweating and you can see his hands shaking at times! Bravo. Not many people on this planet could perform a piece to that level.
2chrisward Thus isn't an "arrangement", this is Liszt's score,.although the playing is so damned fast, it's hard to keep up with it, reading the score. The challenge is to play the entire set of studies in the one sitting. Remarkable enough without adding any variants. By 'editing' I`guess you mean the vision directing - the cameras all being compact and remote controlled.
This pianist is not only a rarely consummate musician and virtuoso, he is a medium transmitting the many possible intentions of our greatest composers. Let us drop our pretensions about our knowledge of the music and listen and learn.
Had the pleasure of seeing Mr. Trifonov perform live in Vienna with the Royal Concertgebouw a few weeks ago. He played the Prokofiev 3rd Concerto with such mastery, it was a delightful experience.
One of the best rhythmic accuracy I've seen for this piece.
5:44 -- He plays this passage so damn well... the best I've ever heard.
One of the best performances of these etudes, one of the most talented pianists of our time, we are so lucky!
The stormy quality he brings to this...my God. It actually sounds like late Romantic music!
Very impressive. Great. This is the only one mazeppa that moved my heart. Litarally I wrote comment for the first time.
I love his 4:43 execution... captures the galloping rhythm perfectly
It sure does, I can literally imagine a horse galloping through a field as he plays it, absolutely stunning performance!!!
He plays it really well, I haven’t found a single error. But it is pretty funny to see him jump so much
These studies were dedicated to Carl Czerny and Czerny dedicated his 48 preludes and leaks Op.856 to Liszt which are of the same technical difficulty
4:43 Grieg Piano Concerto.
Fascinating performance! This man is one of my favourite performers of this piece so far. When get older I wish to play with the same passion as him... The way he feels every note and the way he is "breathing" with the piano... Man! You are like an angel that is mad you can't express Heaven on Earth, but then you start playing the piano- this beautiful instrument- and we are all in Heaven
Best Mazeppa that I have ever listened! Thats first time when I can just close my eyes and imagine Liszt himself playing piano. So brilliant!
To play with such intensity requires as much emotion as he puts in when playing
I love especially everything at 5:40 till the end... I cant get enough of that masterpiece. It´s absolutely stunning!!!!
Oh mein Gott.Das ist einfach unglaubich. Danke fürs Hochladen
My favourite music video on CZcams ever and forever. Thank you so much, genius Daniil!
One of the greats at any age.
That was quite something, what a physical piece! You can't imagine what went into learning a piece like this. An absolute feast for the ears.
Stunning! Absolutely brilliant!
What a difficult piece and yet so beautiful in places. It should be remamed study for three hands !
This interpretation is so beautiful and powerful! I Hope hear it for a very long time! Bravo!
fingers are dancing on the piano. Every note shines like stars.
Awesome performance of the awesome Masterpiece. Breathless
Why is every pianist sweating on the nose when they play this Mazeppa? Berezovsky is the same way.
I think the answer is that impassioned playing with energy overdrive tends to produce that effect. The entire body and brain are so ''involved'', focused and intensely engaged in executing this piece to achieve the utmost result.
Bravo to both pianists, Trifonov and Berezovsky.
The simple answer is that playing all 12 in a row is physically exhausting!
No, it's only Trifonov , he sweats even if he plays Chopin's nocturne. Looks pretty disgusting I must confess
Flawless interpretation, absolutely wonderful.
I can´t even imagine a better performance of this master piece.
Phenomenal! I've not yet seen anyone use Liszt's 2-4 fingering (in the first section), and this proves it's really not necessary if you can do a good staccato.
It's way harder to do 2-4... That's why no one does it. It's simply not necessary. I playing with the rule "it's OK till someone heares the difference " :D
Luke Faulkner Can who's someone tell me, what fingers using usually, very need.
Awesome interpretation!!!!
2:33 Bro, Danil surely knows what a pianissimo is
best interpretation ever from which ive seen from other videos
6:40 when you want to practice piano but it’s 3 am
This was my first full piece I've learnt. Before Twinkle Twinkle little star.
Great performance and like the unshaved look. This is a great pianist.
Best interpretation of liszt etudes ever!
Beautiful beautiful beautiful.
Stunning performance!! Just wow
Wonderful !
Amazing performance!! Musically and technically!!! Wonderful
Love his personality of playing! So intense, just like this piece!
Majestic! Great interpretation! Wow!
Playing with the whole body and all his soul. And maybe one or two other ones. ;-) The man's also a dancer and an actor.
Extraordinário 👏
Transcendental 👏
Genialnie zagrane !!!!!!
Strepitoso Daniil, very trascendental! 🙏
It feels bright and warm .. It seems to take away all the gray clouds of cloudy winter morning :)
Extraordinary!
He is at ease with the music and moves accordingly
This is great! Liked it!
Mesmerizing performance🔥🔥🔥
As Liszt's Complete Concert Études are one of the most challenging pieces to play - what do you think of Trifonov's performance?
He is the best
The best i’ve ever heard
absolutely amazing.
Deutsche Grammophon I still can’t believe he performed all 12 etudes in one recital, very impressive! I love his interpretation of the etudes✨
