I live in the Monterey area, and only flew once every few years before starting my undergrad, but now that I go to school in AZ (even for grad school), roughly 5 times a year I fly from Phx to Mry to visit my family during breaks and then use this airport to fly out on the way back. (The exception is the beginning and end of the year when we drive between cities.) It's safe to say that now I know both airports like the back of my hand. I appreciate how there's no real line in security so that I can arrive at the airport a half hour before it's out to board and I won't fall asleep waiting for the attendants to call my boarding group. Sometimes I get a snack for the plane, but I either eat it right away or don't eat it at all, lol.

Nice video. Went through some older ones and they get better! My family and I usually fly out of little Victoria International Airport on Vancouver Island. Sometimes the cost difference is negligible, and sometimes pay the $275 round-trip ferry is still more cost-effective to fly out of Vancouver. It varies so much. Big difference flying out of YYJ vs YVR though!

Really interesting to see MRY again after more than 50 years! I attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey in 1970. One day, during class, there was a major commotion and everyone was going outside and staring skyward. A brand new PanAm 747 freighter was making multiple passes into MRY, but never landed. We all thought the plane was trying to make an emergency landing. Well, we were almost right. It turned out that they were testing for a potential emergency landing. I never found out what the determination was, but even if a landing was possible, there was no chance of taking off again due to the short runway. It was an exciting event, for sure. Back then, MRY had turboprop service to San Francisco and Los Angeles. I don't know if there were any other destinations. I only flew between SF or LA and MRY.
