If you're listening to this type of music even if you're still young that's mean you have a wonderful taste of music, have a good day.
Lift off! Extraordinary performance and energy. Thanks for this incredible concert.🎶 No gyration, no prancing, no preening - just sheer utter staggering talent!
I agree with you. All these musicians are top jazz stars. Lee Morgan my favorite trumpet player in f all time. And my grandfather Bunny Berigan. I still like Lee the best.,Art drumming is so good too. Amazing !
These guys are unparalleled. Bobby Timmons is incredible….Art Blakey🌟..and Lee Morgan….no words to capture his genius.
I stumbled upon art Blakey's work at 3am at night and I've got to say, God I love how quick things/info reaches us thru' the internet/CZcams.
Art is smiling all the way through because he knows he has the baddest band on the planet!!
Like most musicians he was shy. Notice he didn't like the spotlight but he worked it.
YEP!!!!!
@@edcrouse5491 Great observation. I noticed that as well!
That and the heroin he was on
He would tell the new band members. I'll have you guys turned on in two weeks, that's how long it took him to get them all hooked on heroin. And then he'd get all there paychecks.
Seeing a 19y/o Lee Morgan basically rip the trumpet in half must have been an outer worldly experience!
I'm generally a person that listens to electronic music; synthwave, vaporwave, etc. But I found this performance and now I can't stop listening. Wow, what a show. Jazz really is something else.
AMED BRO !!!
Glad to hear that some people can still appreciate the brilliance of good improvised hard-bop. Lee Morgan was such a masterful player.
YOU GOT IT MAN , I'M 66 AND DIGGIN IT BECAUSE I'VE PLAYED WITH BRASS AS A RYTHM GUITAR PLAYER AND PLAY ALONG WITH ARTIE'S BAND.... AND IT IS SOLID COOL
Have you ever heard of the South London Jazz Scene? You really should consider listening to bands like Ezra Collective, The Comet is Coming (especially if you like electronic music) or Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (a must)
I like metal, jazz, classic rock, and 100s of other genres but if I enjoy it,I jam it.
One of the greatest performances ever
Yes, yes it is.
Naw, disagree with that shit. You ain't heard much, then, muthrfckr....
It is well known how these world-class musicians received the respect they deserved in Europe, while they faced racism and discrimination at home. Thank you for posting the genius of their performance.
they got back at racism pretty damm good !!!! masters !!
@@danielboone8748 ja, neh?!
that's right, mr greenberg, focus on oppression, not artistry
Lee was amazing, that trumpet has conversations with me and I'm always in a mood to hear Lee's trumpet speak.
Totally agree!!! Lee is so powerful!
As a trumpet player, he's one of my largest inspirations. I love the bite and sassy attitude he conveys in his sound.
That’s a sick way of putting it - having conversations with you - I never thought about it like that!
art blakey use to shout "tell them your story!" during his solo's i saw once somewhere online
@@albertmerlew source: i saw it online somewhere
The Moanin' solos of all of them ARE INSANE DUDE !!!
that's cuz of the blues melody and gospel thwang
It's great that this was captured on film. Art and his crew are the definition of COOL!
Lee Morgan has always been my favorite Trumpet player. In this performance everyone rocks. Great classic video and great quality for its age.
Lee is this Best.
Those first two bars of his solo are nothing short of iconic. So fucking bold, almost ear piercing but SO GOOD
You have good taste.
I thougt the very same about Lee Morgan
100% with you brother.
All those artist ain't dead. They live in my heart❤
Benny Golson is underrated af, such a killer player
and he composed some great songs as well
He kills it!!!!
@@Servagio absolutely, as did Lee Morgan
@@vinylvipress5529 'I remember Clifford' and 'Killer Joe' to name just the most obvious ones.
Love me some of Lee Morgan's own compositions too , but talking merely top 10 for style, he's surpassed by my personal favourites Roy Eldridge, Clifford Brown, Art Farmer, and of course Louis Armstrong
Along Came Betty, Stablemates, and the list goes on...
Wow! 1958! The thing about jazz is that this could have been recorded yesterday. It's timeless.
Totally totally agree just unbelievable
@@johnl.2314 Coincidently, I'm John L. I chose FishBait to be unique. Enjoy the music!
I spent most of my life listening to rock music I've only been listing to jazz over the last couple of years now what was I thinking about lol lee Morgan is the Jimi Hendrix of jazz its a crime these guys and others like them don't get the recognition that they deserve
They have gotten the recognition actually. In the Jazz world all of these guys are recognized very much. Unfortunately today most of the jazz is watered down with some exceptions of course.
agradece que no les cortaron una mano estos belgas...
@@PapaCowboySr it's just that today's people are uncultured. They don't understand that these jazz guys could easily wipe the floor with who they listen to!
00:03 Just By Myself
07:44 Moanin’
21:48 I Remember Clifford
28:26 It’s You Or No One
36:28 Whisper Not
44:21 A Night In Tunisia
52:11 NY Theme
Thanks for track listing.
Where else have I heard
"Just by myself"?
@@davidram361 Benny golson was the composer maybe that will help you
Grazie per aver l’elencato!
Nice. Thanks for the Lineup.
Brilliant thanks for this 💯
Proud that this music was recorded in my city-Brussels.....Bobby Timmons and Lee Morgan are fantastic....the beat goes on and the notes are always blue (for ever)
Thank you for your beautiful city and the beautiful people that have supported and always support musicians
@@stedebassett1523 are u sure this was recorded in brussels ? if yes do you where ? thanks
Lee always comes in BLAZING!!!!
I'v been listening to jazz since i was a kid and no matter what other types of music I get into jazz will always be one of my top favorites and this is musical poetry.
bobby timmons is soooooooooooooooooo fking good
52:04 Art Blakey destroying his drum is something wonderful
3:50 If you listen carefully he's singing the piano solo as he plays it.... that's a musician who's connected to his instrument at a spiritual level
Scat man
Les McCann used to do that too
erroll garner does this quite a bit as well. erroll is by far the best trio and solo pianist. so colorful. all just opinion though of course.
Almost every jazz pianist player does that at some point
MILT BUCKNER is groaning like a groundhog when playing. That s uncivilized, total anticlimax 4 me ; have 5 originals from him, though, paid dearly w o knowing the ... syndrome
Those days are NOW!
The greatest jazz trumpet soloist, IMO.
clifford
Agreed
@@mpytthing200 ah yes RIP I remember Clifford ❤
One of the greatest.
Sure, ...and he lives on forever!!!
That piano solo by Timmons during Moanin'... damn!
I have known this live since my childhood but only by the sound. It's incredible that the video is available. It's really moving. They are so young and marvelous. Thanks from Japan.
Great stuff!
In America, this is the definition of COOL.
I mean the amount of times I watched this is incomprehensible. I sent it to all my contacts regardless of them liking jazz.
Art Blakey keeping common time with himself while playing in asynchronous time might be one of the most brilliant moments in music history. Also, "STFU BOBBY!" -Art Blakey's eyes during the bass solo in Moanin'
I love every nanosecond of this. Wow.
Best of the best! Lee Morgan is one of my favourite musicians
Besides classical music jazz is my home since I was 14 year old. My first concert was in
Zurich with the 3 of the greatest at that time in 1962. J AP with first Oscat Peterso Trio. Tha came Stan Getz into the trio and it finished with Miles Davis. John Coltrane quintets. That was that keeprd me in Jazz. Now I play Piano and Harmonica and am fully in Jazz. With 80 years.
Yo, Kurt! You were able to attend a JATP session performance with all those players?! How lucky you were, my friend.
Delighted to hear you’re still playing…. Where do you play? Any clubs in NYC?
@@mikewinburn
Unfortunately not in NYC but in my home in Switzerland. Anyway my playing us way off and only for home use.
@@kurtvogel2023 - what a beautiful thing being able to play privately (or publicly, for that mattter). My wife (66) plays piano as you… just in private… but couple times a year she plays at a local community show. It’s great to watch.
Only playing I do is playing the records of these jazz icons:).
Keep on enjoying my friend.
Thanks for the conversation!
Wow! Look at how youthful Art looks here! What an absolute legendary drummer and bandleader. The Jazz Messengers are one of the tightest Jazz supergroups of all time.
If anyone has heard "Monday Night at Birdland" (featuring Morgan), which was from a year prior, you will probably recognise a lot of the licks/structure Morgan uses in his solo. It's always cool to see stuff rephrased.
“Lee was the only young cat that scared me when he played,” he says. “he had so much fire and natural feeling. I had more technique, but he had that feeling. People seemed to like him more than they liked me at the beginning. But we’d follow each other around, buy sports cars and chase the same chicks. It was a different period then. Today, it’s all business.”
Freddy Hubbard
I loved you too Freddy, but I understand.
Crystal Joy
Yes, business does not make music, and so much music nowadays has lost all credibility!
So sorry to lose those guys.
The piano part starting at around 15:00 gets me every single time, hard.
I have a few favourites Guitarits ,Saxophonist & Pianists....But i only have 1 favourite trumpeter : Lee Morgan
Although both their lives were cut short, Lee Morgan and Clifford Brown, two transcendent trumpeters, left indelible impressions on the Jazz world
lees primary early influence was clifford and he managed to have lessons with him, so ive read anyway
@Joseph Green + BOOKER LITTLE whom folks always 4get or ignore, died @23, already @ the peak. OUT FRONT w Dolphy says it all, on Mingus's lbl. Max lost him, 2. Only Dorham was left of the subgenre, the soft hardbop ...
改めてこのグループの偉大さが 解りました
la mejor medicina para los males es buen jazz paz y amor para todo aquel que disfrute de esta musica.desde valdivia, sur de chile
Basic pure hard bop which is rare today, unfortunately!
Art BLakey and The Messengers (in the Top 3') greatest jazz bands of ALL Time! 🎉
One of Bobby's best solos AND his best composition Moanin'
Lee Morgan IS great forever!!!
I think this performance in Belgium 1958 is the best of best of Art & Messanger live! the best line up, the best set list, the best excitement, the best savoy ment, its the best rare jazz!!
No, Miles Ahead + 19 recorded in 1957. Miles Davis was unimaginably astronomical time leaps beyond Art Blakey and perhaps any other musician in any genre of his times. An obscure fact, the entire Miles Davis orchestrations with Gil Evans were all actually written, composed, and arranged by Miles Davis not Gil Evans. Why you think Miles Davis an AfroAmerican in the late 1950s walked off with all the recognition, not Gil Evans.
Lee Morgan, just love this, his Trumpet playing playing !!
Peace to all
Excellence at all times from these & all the ladies & gentlemen of jazz. Extraordinary performance & beautiful sounds of music fulfilling my ears & heart with peace & warmth overdue & unheard of anywhere else on the globe. Indeed a fantastic display of talent & class all.the way through. Thank you God there's jazz !!!
Well said! The definition of COOL! Jazz will always be with us.
Bobby Timmons is amazing on that piano as always. Have a Jazzy Holiday everyone.
Lee Morgan...Great.
Bobby Timmons was actually a genius
Lee Morgan!!🎉 Thank you for sharing hope you are well God loves you deeply shalom 🤗🐼♥️✝️💐 Philippians 4:8
Art Blakey is great to watch and listen to. I get a kick every time I see a new video. His left right independence is fantastic yet the whole band always comes first. A weaker musician would have surrounded themselves with inferior musicians. Art had the confidence and style to lead. I wish I had met him.
Thank the great goddess we have these priceless treasures for our enjoyment. Superb playing from superb musicians! Thank you for the upload.
Lee Morgan greatest storyteller ever on the trumpet. Bu 🖤
Lee Morgan!! The guy just finds shape after shape. Conversations in semaphore.
Listen to these Amazing Jazz Artist that I gad the pleasure of being introduced to while back in the 70's, my brother from Philly, Sali, also a fine musician himself, I feel in love listening to this type of classic Jazz music. Talented brother's.
And with a 20 year old Lee Morgan!
What a find! This band is burning the damn village down!
Wow. The messengers are on fire. I have to admit Lee is my favorite and I love funky Bobby Timmons
Lee Morgan will live forever!!!
Morgan was a true genius player.
These men don’t sweat! They create everything that Heaven allows! And the trumpet breakin out on the theme each time is worth all four operas in Wagner’s Ring Cycle❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love this song and Lee Morgan is just fantastic
Real great music by the masters, thank you!
Man Art B and Lee wow

Música de primeira qualidade!
Hello from Moscow.
The Creme de Creme of Jazz.
Art and the band were on top of their game for this performance!
1. 1:57 Just By Myself
2. 1:58 Just By Myself
3. 11:22 Moanin'
4. 48:10 Night in Tunisia
5. 48:11 Night in Tunisia
Personally a bigger fan of Horace but Timmons is superb
@@lawrence-yx1ew
Both were magnificent jazz pianists. Bobby's ilk in chords and phrasing, lent itself more towards gospel infused blues. I think with Horace, the tendency was more indicative of West Indies culturally influenced stylings. In either case they both made huge contributions to the never ending story of the American jazz art form.
Can't believe Bobby didn't break a piano string on Moanin'! What a way to go...it snaps and punctures his carotid. Or better yet, it snaps and hits Benny or Lee in the carotid! Dayum!
Art Blakey 思い出しました、
Tragic ending for a great musician
A beautiful arrangement of skilled men the trumpet solo was amazing
AWWWW YEAHHHH! They COOKIN'!!! ^..^
Super cool! I love Lee Morgan!
Jazz vibrational frequency charge is so refreshing
In Brussels in 1958, amazing performance of all of them. The concert took probably place in the Beaux Arts Théatre , at the occasion of the World Exhibition that took place in Brussels in that year. Someone correct me, if i'm wrong.
