What if a time traveler steps on a stick and changes the reality where Yumetaro was more popular than Kirby, and people around the world would be celebrating his 30th ann.
I hate to say it, but if that were the case, then Exact*Mix would be a widely accessible game, loved by all, and I would be making a Kirby's Adventure 30th Ann. album! 😅

Dont worry. Doa always finds balance. Plus it will be released for steam. Kirby is very differtent. This game feels more ode to arcade experience and kirby like a kids toy.
It will be SOO funny if I step on a stick and gimmick series was officially selinced by Nintendo and immediately bought out the company thus turining gimmick into a iniconic famous franchise

Technically this isn't an OST. OST stands for Original SoundTrack. This is neither original as in the music originally in the game, nor original as in "not derivative".

Finally. Not only a cover, but an entire ost cover that fully reflects what I hear in my head echoing after playing the game to a tee.
Here’s to hoping this gets spread even more and hopefully the current rights holder eventually releases the Arcade remake to consoles one day.

@@R3tronaut I actually recall seeing that MAME had I think 2 of exA Arcadia shootemups ported and working within it? Not sure what exactly that means for the future of Gimmick though.. maybe we can get a group to just decompile the game and a fan restoration in the same style can be created from that.
i absolutely love a game called cave story, this game's artstyle and music feels so so so much like cave story, almost as if it was made by the same person, i absolutely love this game, i havent tried it but sure as heck i wanna play it, im gonna emulate just for the sake of playing it holy shit
This kicks the Exact Mix's butt from here to kingdom come. Won't lie though, helps that it can actually be listened to without blowing the Mega Millions jackpot on a cabinet.
This album is absolutely excellent. To be honest, I think I might prefer this over Gimmick Exact Mix's rendition of the soundtrack. Nice job!

There’s no sequel to this game and I guess because it wasn’t released in North America and anywhere else but only in Europe and Japan and then Sunsoft probably forgot about it. It’s a year older than Kirby.

Gimmick had both an official soundtrack release and arcade remake in 2020, so they can't have totally forgotten.
"Europe" makes the situation sound far better than it was, also. It was _only_ Scandinavia for god knows what reason.

You kinda made it sound like it came out of a Gimmick arcade game from the era, like the 16-bit sound makes me think a bit of the original Puzzle Bobble/Bust-A-Move. Nice work!
Also TIL that they're rereleasing this game on multiple platforms! Yes!! It'd be cool to have a music album come with it where it's arranged in sort of a period accurate way, like a soundtrack album from the early 90s and how that would sound. I can kinda hear some jazz fusion influences in some tracks along with other genres.

Color me impressed. Here are my takeaways:
1. DAT BASS! Sunsoft DPCM is all its crunchy, compressed, rife-with-quantization-noise-yet-iconic glory. Love it.
2. The soundtrack overall is superb, but you have a knack for video production. Just the little bits like syncing the intro and outro with the music, the title card/credit edits to match the actual album's credits, and the little stars showing which song is playing are "quality-of life" stuff that tends to go unnoticed. Until now! Oh, and @ 35:25...we must protect lo-fi dancing Yumetoro at all costs.
3. I think I've been playing too much Final Fantasy lately. In "A Paradox!", did you use the metal clang sample from FFVII's battle theme? Dunno, sounds familiar to me.
4. Admittedly I was a little apprehensive to hear "Cadbury Rock!". Cadbury is easily my favorite song from the original, and lobbies for one of my favorite NES tracks of all time. You and your Kageyama-inspired grooves and synths managed to make Cadbury slap even HARDER than the original, well fucking done!
5. Circling back to lo-fi Yumetoro, "(BONUS) Sky's the Limit!" makes me want to petition for another Jet Set Radio game. Please?

Cadbury was also a scary song for me to tackle, since I took inspiration from all the versions and covers I loved. It's a heavy hitting song for me as well.
I've thought about covering Ufouria and even Trip World, but aside from getting busier I realized I didn't have the same passion/connection with those games like I have with Gimmick.
(PS: Can't wait for Bomb Rush Cyberfunk!)

Why does this have so few views? This is such an awesome playlist, well done! I was always saddened by how little attention Gimmick! got upon release, the game is such an underrated gem.
Thanks! It was a shame that it was a late NES release that was too hard for people, and I wanted to give the soundtrack care and attention since everyone who knows the game loves it!

Tons of different SNES, Genesis, and Sunsoft soundfounts and samples
An 8-bit vst called SANA
and a 16-bit vst called GENNY
(also made the cover art using Photoshop)

I have only heard of Gimmick only beacause of this flash game called Super Mario Crossover, and it played Gimmick's OST, and i never knew. i did end up playing the game after. despite it's challenging difficulty, the music slaps. also your renditions are fire as well! great work.

I've been obsessed with this game's soundtrack for a while now and I must say that this is a wonderful recreation. Your rendition of Long Tomorrow is by far my favorite one on the album. I love the buildup and it goes super hard with those little guitar riffs you added in the back, haha. Simply fantastic.

Gimmick is a very good game but it did not get the credit that it deserves. It would be great for Yumetaro to be in Smash Bros but the biggest reason is because it wasn’t released in North America (which is because Sunsoft of America did not approve of it due to its quirkiness.) People like Kirby more because in Kirby you can do so much more than in Gimmick. Let me explain this in detail.
1. The title. Kirby’s titles is Kirby’s adventure, Kirby’s dreamland, Kirby’s Pinball, etc, but for Gimmick, it’s just Gimmick or Mr. Gimmick. That’s it.
2. The locations. Kirby is set in dreamland or Planet Popstar. The game is set in various locations such as Vegetable Valley, Orange Ocean. Ice cream island etc, but Gimmick is set just in a toy realm.
3. The enemies. In Kirby, the enemies all vary and they have powers that Kirby can suck up to use against other enemies. In Gimmick you can’t do that. All you have is a star and the star can be pretty hard to manage.
4. The bosses. The bosses of Kirby are very excellent such as Meta Knight, King Dedede etc, but in Gimmick the bosses are just huge versions of the toys.
5. The storyline. The plot and storyline of Kirby is exciting such as saving dreamland from evil and other things but in Gimmick all you have to do is a save a girl trapped in the toy realm just like Mario saving Peach.
6. Marketing. Sunsoft didn’t make a commercial featuring this game to spread awareness about it which is another reason why it didn’t generate that much sales.
I’m not saying this to affect you and anyone else but I’m just saying the reasons why Gimmick is not as popular as the other games and why Yumetaro is not in Smash Bros. Thank you.

youre an absolute legend for this, seriously lol im a huge fan of this game and its soundtrack and you did such a good job with this... i love how you fleshed out the tracks, and your selection of instruments to use here strikes a really good balance between the retro chip instruments and the 80s synth samples they were replicating, i think you really nailed it with the orchestra hits in Identity Believer especially! AND THE ALBUM ART, the way you drew Yumetaro is adorable!!! also i love He : )
side note: i think i wouldve agreed with the idea of squishing Long Tomorrow into phase 1 in favor of Strange Memories Of Death back when i first found out about the song, but Long Tomorrow actually REALLY grew on me over time, and that solo you added definitely does it justice. if only there was a good spot for SMOD, like a third phase or some kinda playable escape sequence... IMO, it just wouldnt be fair to either track unless they both got their proper moments to shine.

I believe the original idea for the track in the OG game was to use it for a boss rush sequence before the final boss, but that was scrapped.

Of all the remixes and different versions of Gimmick's songs that I've heard on CZcams this is without a doubt the best I've heard so far!
I love how each song sounds the same but improved and with details that make them stand out better. My favorites are ''Aporia, Oh My!'' ''Identity Believer, Dream Weaver! (Serious Battle)'' ''Cadbury Rock!'' and ''The Evidence Of My Life Makes For A Long Tomorrow! (Phase 1)'' (Very clever of you to combine the two songs from the final battle, kudos for that)
