- Bradley from Shredd Labs gets his hands on a CBXR battery upgrade for his Onewheel+ XR and shows us how to install it and then goes for a range test around the city of Vancouver.
DISCLAIMER: This mod only works with older Onewheel+ XR models. Check your hardware version to make sure it's pre-4211 (4206, 4208, 4209, or 4210). See our blog post for more information on how to find out which hardware information you have as well as more details on the CBXR here: www.shreddlabs.com/CBXR

Have the Pint? They've got you covered with their Quart extended battery available here: chibatterysystems.com/service...
My installation did not go exactly like this. Extra tools were needed, 1 cousin and a broom stick. Those screws at 5:20 were brutal to get in, I had my cousin pushing down and sideways with the broom stick to get the screws to line up and go in. A bit of sweat and maybe a few tears were shed in the process. It all came together in the end, I also installed the battery meter which also had its own issues. Mainly the small restricted space in which to work in and fat fingers.
It is definitely an experience to install the chibattery. I managed it after a couple of hours, and I'm glad it's done. Loving the range so much, and that my feet give out before the battery does.
Thanks for the video mate.
Thank you for reviewing our battery! So pumped you like it! - Bara
Bara Jabali Thanks for making a killer battery! Love this thing
If I have a 4210 board with Gemini 4150 software does that mean I can’t use your battery?
@@seerjay2288 It will work but it may require power-cycling the board when your app "thinks" you're at 1% meaning you turn your board off then back on and it should work.
Do you have a battery that will work with the Pint?
@@jthrasherphoto He does. It's called the Quart.
This is the best thing I've ever seen. I've got 19 miles on my XR I got for Christmas. Did 6 today, in the cold N.E. winter, and was at 50%, which I was definitely happy about but this is absolutely on my radar for this summer once I start having time to push range! Thanks so much for the review!
Awesome video: this is definitely my next upgrade. 3,200 miles in and I have noticed my XR has less range and torque.
Thank you for this video. I couldn't get my CBXR to fit in the battery housing until I saw you route the power cables over the battery instead of under. Worked perfectly. Thanks!
thank you for giving us a real life honest insight to the cbxr upgrade mate. really appreciate it.
My jaw dropped when you said 60kms range at 9:44. That is killer.
OMG Yes !!! ':-O
Giving a like for the 1.5k walk home, can’t be understated how brutal it probably was after actually riding the battery all the way to exhaustion…
Great vid, just got my battery produced and it’s otw. stoked to know it’s exactly as advertised!
Also, dang how pretty, kinda wanna move to Vancouver
Great install and overview Brad. Can't wait to get mine at the end of the month!
Thanks Alex! You're going to love it
Can't wait to see the update version that's gonna fit well with the last hardware/firmware version of the last Onewheel's !!
nice riding spot. Perhaps someday I will move to Vancouver. Such a beautiful place. Great vid
Beautiful city! Thanks for the info
Great review bro. Nice vid images. I'm getting one of these next month. Thanks for the info man!!
Great review! Glad I have one on order
these videos are the best don’t stop!!!
Thank you so much for this video. The easy installation und insane range test lead me to order one to europe for myself. While already apart, I also badger'd my board. It was a good oppertunity to get to know the components of it.
Although I have to say: Tucking the battery in tight and closing the lid by force because it doesnt fit right anymore made me very nervous.
It's a tight fit but it should still fit with a little elbow grease and making sure you shaved off enough on the inside.
Great Review Video! Thanks for your Hardwork on that Killer CBXR Battery Range test 😂
I just got my quart , awesome video
anthony martinez Right on! Enjoy the additional range
Nice video man! I enjoyed it.
Thats insane. I had no problem with the range on my XR but that range sounds enticing.
Nice review! I ordered a CBXR battery today. 😁
Thanks! Enjoy the extra range!
You guys should definitely review R3d customs x2r build for the pint.
We don’t recommend anything that’s on the exterior of the Onewheel especially on the Pint as you lose valuable footpad space. We may be reviewing Chi Battery Systems Quart battery for the Pint though.
thanks, can't wait to order mine. DG.
Very nice vid homie 👌!
Great video! I wish you had included a screenshot of the used/regen'ed Ah in the end…
Did you actually look at the numbers by any chance?
I did not unfortunately. I know it was less than 45v when I was done. I think it was down to 42v or so
Awesome review thanks so much 🤙🏽. Hey what helmet is that
You're very welcome! It's the Predator Shiznit: www.predatorhelmets.com/products/shiznit?variant=31582377476228
Dope video bro💯🙏
Damn that's amazing bro!
I install the double XR battery and install it is awesome I truly love the range and the overall performance had give us I wish it had the CBX R for purchase when I had purchased mine honestly. But it can't in the market like a month after recievejng the double XR upgrade
John S The XXR is still a great upgrade!
@@eevees i cant complain. but with the bigger cells it was bit tricky to stuff it in the houssing . while trying to keep the screw holes intact so i didnt have to epoxy but all in all it turned out clean if you want i can send you a snap shot . haha
Damnit! I need this setup so bad!!
I wonder what the new battery will do to you BMS system 🤔 you might have to convert to a Vesc system.
Does the board go faster? Have you had issues with nose dive when pushing it after the battery swap?
Great video. Thanks for the info. Ordered a while back still waiting on the second batch.
Do you by chance know the voltage of your bored when it went totally dead?
Thanks! 45v is dead.
Maaaan i already have a pint and this makes me wana buy an XR AND this battery upgrade Dx
So with the older hardware, does it show the battery percentage correctly in the app? and there isnt any problems at all whatsoever?
Are you using the onewheel app to track your results or do you use something else to track the status of your mileage an battery life?
Brad !!!! I miss you bud !!!! Come and visit is im South Miami !!! One of m best ride in Oka and Mont Royal in Qc !!!!!
Miss you too bro! Maybe I'll open an @eevee's location in Miami one day. That Mount Royal ride was definitely one of my most memorable.
I want to do this to my XR
Great vid bro, yea I like that shirt too!
Thanks! The shirts are available here: thefloatlife.ca/collections/apparel/products/float-canada-doodle-tee-exclusive
wow ive had my xr since the 9th, i was thinking i cant wait for a onewheel that doubles the current onewheel xr range cause i have no prob riding 12+ miles. then your video came up and this will be happening once i lose my warranty XP
GreenThumbJeremy Make sure you check your hardware version. Future Motion blocked the newer Onewheels from allowing this mod. It will not work for hardware versions: 4211 or 4212
@@eevees tyvm!!!!!!
@@eevees I’ve got 4212 ;[ hoping there will be a solution in the future.
@@eevees won’t it still work but you just can’t open the app?
@@Mrjerk2000 I believe that's the case with some versions of 4210 but any higher than that, I wouldn't risk it. Word on the street that there will be a solution for 4211 and 4212 soon though,
Great video and ride man. Thanks for sharing.
How long did you charge up the CBXR battery after installation before riding it? And did the CBXR change the pushback threshold, torque, or top speed?
Thanks
watchNcarry Thanks! I charged until the green light came on the charger. Probably around 2.5hrs. You want to make sure you charge it full the first time you use it.
It didn’t change the pushback threshold but torque and top speed feel were likely I proceed however I don’t risk pushing the board to its limits
@@eevees did the app give a decent read of the battery? And did it still have high speed p.b at 28kmh ? Also did it give pushback warnings before it died? I'm pretty stoked about this . :)
Hi, before I dish out a grand on the cbxr upgrade I was just wondering how it’s held up until now, is it a good quality battery and will it last?..
They are better and more reliable than the original stock cells.
How has the XR aged with the CBXR? i’m looking to get a battery replacement for a stock 4208 w 2500+ mi on it (new to me) but i’m a little worried about long term longevity
would this work on a one wheel +??
I'm sorry are you replacing with a new set of batteries or adding additional batteries???
Thanks for the review! I’m in BC and tried to order one of these batteries from JW but they would not send to Canada. Do you know of anyone in Vancouver or Canada who could hook me up? Thanks!
Hello
Where can I order or buy one of those CBXR Batteries?
Greetings from Kaslo. Does the home XR charger work for the CBXR or do you need to use the ChiBattery chargers?
Hey! Yes, the home charger works for the CBXR. It’s just slower than the fast charger.
Did you go the distance in Delirium or perhaps Mission? I tend to always ride Delirium and find that I lose a lot of range... (btw: ordered CBXR a month ago - waiting for it)
I did the ride in Mission. I barely ride Delirium. It's too rigid for me.
Hey dude! Awesome video. Do you happen to know what kind of lithium cells the xr used and also the new battery pack used? Are they the same?
The Onewheel standard battery pack and CBXR both use 18650 battery cells. The Onewheel is known to use Samsung 30q and CBXRs use Sanyo 18650ga.
@@eevees Thanks for the reply. So if they're they same size the reason to cut the box I assume is because it has more cells than the original correct?
@@abikovski27 That's correct. They're more crammed in there.
for those of you that have installed this battery, how was the installation process? difficult? easy?
Whoo hooo nice!!!
Does this come with a replacement Bms?
Does the app still work with the new battery?
i installed cbxr too, dont' you have any problems with apps? likely, % of battery showing.
I read on the website that it works on 4209,4210, it not 4211. However, I have no idea what that means and I would love to install one of these on my fairly new XR. Just afraid of spending $700 and not having at work.
Boosted ND Miata Check out our blog post here: shreddlabs.com/CBXR and we explain how to check. It’s under your board settings though.
Wow. This is a complete game changer. The XR now competes with lower end EUCs in range. When I upgrade to an XR I will be installing this immediately. How fast is a charge with their fast charger?
Make sure you buy a used XR with the hardware version 4206, 4208, 4209, or 4210. If will not work with the newer XRs unfortunately. It will charge in just over 2 hrs with the fast charger.
How can you tell which hardware version you have
Criticism: cam angle on 1st part of video needed adjustment. The work you were showing was at the back 3rd of shot. Other than that, great video. Wonderful shots of your ride. I've been told to visit Vancouver since I lived in the beautiful city of Toronto (I'm American). Nice job exhausting the battery. Are you going to do a follow up video later? A review on how the battery still holds a charge (less range vs same range)? I'd be interested in that. Also, how long (time wise) was your ride?
Thanks for watching. Yeah, I realized the camera was angled a bit but luckily caught it so the entire video wasn't like that. Vancouver is definitely one of the most beautiful cities. No follow-up planned but the CBXR is still holding up well. I can't remember how long I rode for but it must have been around close to 2 hours straight.
How's the balance of the new board? Does the percentage work correctly via the app or are you reading the actual battery juice left via the specs?
It balances normally. Battery levels are checked by reading the board's voltage as the percentage does not read accurately.
Thanks for the intel
Hey, Great video, what Hex Key size did you use?
3/32
Hey dude. Can I still get one of these batteries? The link is messed up. Thanks.
chibatterysystems.com/collections/onewheel-xr/products/cbxr
Been thinking about getting one for my pint, my only confusion is does the app accurately pace the new battery or do you need to go off of voltage within the app maybe?
You have to go off the voltage of the battery
this bat could fit the pint you think?
Is there any safety concern with these aftermarket batteries like over charging with stock charging parts?
You can't over-charge with stock chargers but any time you mod the Onewheel, there are safety concerns. Mod at your own risk.
How much was shipping for you? I am from Vancouver and I saw the price on it but I never found a place to calculate shipping.
We got ours shipped to Blaine, WA and then drove them over the border.
Hi very sorry if am commenting a bit late, I just want to ask if the battery store more power does that mean it charges a bit longer?
Hey there. Yes, the battery does take longer to charge. It takes 3hrs and 15 mins on the standard charger or 1hr and 45 mins on Chi Battery System's fast charger.
Thanks for the info I actually don't have a onewheel but I have been wanting 1 for so long. And I just gotta say you make really good videos, Sorry again for replying a bit late😅
How do you ride for so long? My feet actually go numb after awhile and i have trouble feeling the road under me. whats your secret?
16,000km+ of riding under my belt but a Float Life Kush footpad definitely helps too
Do a range test on the pint version as well
Thanks! If Chi sends us one, we'll test it!
Went on a group ride and one pint with chi battery came along. He had more battery left than the XR. But he was a fairly light guy. 30% v 18% battery left.
@@mattjobst thank you for the response. I'm going to do it and find out. I'm heavy and muscular so any increase is good.
Anyone know anything about jwxr battery trying to choose
Hey! I was wondering if the battery percent on the Onewheel app is still accurate after the upgrade. Thanks
It's not but Chi sells a battery gauge that you can install on your board to monitor battery levels. Or you can look at your cell voltage in the app to check the approximate battery level.
@@eevees ah ok, thanks for the info
Can you guys work on a extended battery for the 4211 please
It's not the battery, it's Future Motion putting something in their hardware/firmware that prevents aftermarket batteries from working. I know people are trying to find a workaround but I haven't heard of a fix yet.
What kind of helmet is that? Where would I get one? Looking for a less bulky helmet
www.predatorhelmets.com/products/shiznit?variant=31582377476228
i cried when you had a ruler in your hand then set it down to draw a straight line!! :)
Hahahaha seems like something I would do on the regular. Mr Space Cadet always making things more difficult for myself
Can you have the ow app open or will it mess with the board
As long as you have hardware version 4206, 4208, or 4209, you can keep the app open and shouldn't have any issues.
is there an option for the Onewheel Pint?
Yes, sure is! It's called the Quart. I'll be reviewing one soon.
I just hit 3000km on my board and still can get 30km on a charge with the original battery but am definitely doing this when my battery bites the bullet.
Will this battery mod work on current 4211 software
Unfortunately not.
Does this mod work with the 4212?
Unfortunately not
I finally said to heck with all these mods and bought a Veteran Sherman. 50mph top speed and 100 mile range!!
Great choice! I absolutely love my Sherman. EUCs are converting a lot of Onewheelers. I still like my Onewheel but I find myself picking up my Sherman a lot more.
My standard XR battery run empty after only 15km... You're talking about a 54 km ride with the CBXR... jeezzzzzzzz
Eeeh another Van rider, sweet - how long did it take to reach the 30 km?
Oh, and does it affect the charging at all?
Just over an hour
@@leonbrown7911 Charging just takes longer is all
If this was the range stock i would have bought a onewheel already. Went for a group ride the skateboards made a 19 mile trip the onewheel charged for 15 min at the half way point then died a couple hundred yards from the parking lot.. in hilly areas that battery is desperately needed on eboards or onewheel
You went 30+ milies I need this battery upgrade now lol
How’s the CBXR holding up?
I sold it a while ago. I'm currently getting my first VESC build. Review coming soon.
How much for this battery? I'm ordering asap. I ride single-track all the time, would love more range .

@@MrDmadness I got mine 2 days ago it's easy asf to install, JUST DONT FORGET THE SCREWS UNDER THE WARRANTY STICK UNDER RAILS. I couldn't figure out how to remove the battery pack because I didn't know there was 2 screws still holding it in. Other than that easy peasy.
wow how much is this battery? the stock is more than enough no? that. was ALOT of riding lol
They retail for $700 USD. The stock is enough until it isn't. If you like to ride trails for more than an hour at a time, then this upgrade helps with that.
Does it work on a v1
No, it will not work on a V1
Does the onewheel app have an accurate battery readout?
No, you have to go by your board’s voltage.
63v is full battery. 54v is 50%. 45v is empty.
How to you check your voltage on the go?

What kinda range do you normally get on the XR?
Copy Imitation Good question that I never addressed. I typically get 16-17 miles riding at similar speeds.
@@eevees so essentially double the battery life? Is there a big weight difference?
Copy Imitation Yeah, pretty much. It only adds 1.5lbs
@@eevees oh wow!! I was thinking it would be similar to a carvepower battery pack.. I think I need to get my hands on one of these bad boys 👊 Thanks for the review man.
Honestly an XR with CBXR is like on par with a OneWheel GT. I’d rather have an XR over a GT. No ghosting, no bricking when doing a simple mod. All the good stuff in one for the XR! Have to buy used tho :/
They are saying a new battery with a VESC module you might as well have a GTS you just built a GTS except its lighter
@@BrianSmith-yq7ysI have a GT now.
Also, a CBXR VESC is nowhere near as much torque as the GT-S we’re talking 27s vs 15s (113.4v vs 63v) and the GT-S even has a motor that’s been developed to make more torque (which reduces top speed but 113.4v is already insane)
Now if you’re talking VESC with a 20s battery it can be close with a superflux.
@@destruxandexploze2552 I’m thinking I’d rather mod my xr than get a gts ill take you at your word that the gts is better but its also $3200
Wow
I really want a CBXR, but i have a 4212 model :(
It's not a huge biggie. You can still make it work with this magical chip: jwbatteries.com/products/jwffm-chip-1
How can I pimp my ow+ with this upgrade?
Stephanos Berger unfortunately, there are no ways to do this type of mod for the +
@@eevees Well then its fair enough we OW+ owners can travel per airplane and can add endless battery capacity with EGOs. Good with that, just a bit uncomfortable in some rare occurrences.
@@mackvie I just got an email from chibatterysystems today saying there’s a new battery upgrade for the ow+. “cb+” and there’s a “cbv1.” Doubles your original range and comes with a mini-fast charger. NEWSHOP50 is the code for $50 off - only for early adopters.
