  • I wrote this Celtic harp arrangement of “The Water Is Wide,” a traditional song of Scottish origin, for the memorial of Reverend David James Randolph, Jr. where we celebrated his life. Rev. David James Randoph had such a gently supportive and encouraging presence about him, that I remembered that when I spent time with him, I just felt good for a long time afterwards in a very balanced and nice way. Some people have the kind of subtle energy that touches others and influences them in a good way without them realizing it. There were so many warm memories shared at the memorial. I wanted to write a really good arrangement to honor his memory. The words in the song seem so fitting-they describe being separated from a loved one by a body of water, and building a boat that can cross that barrier so you can meet again. I also like the imagery of wings and flying. It echoes the idea of heaven and also seems fitting for the quietly angelic presence that some people have on earth.

I love when Susan puts on her dancing shoes. Thank you Susan for choosing this song to arrange - a lovely version of Pete Seegers song.
