After I installed the new operators, I examined the old ones. The white metal casing for the gears had warped. I carefully pressed the casings back into shape using my vice and some wood so I didn't damage the casing. This seemed to tighten up the assembly and made the old operators totally functional. I kept the old operators as spares. It is possible to repair the old operators and save even more not buying new operators. 👍

Very helpful! Thank you for sharing. Could you please share the brand and model number of the crank component you got on Amazon? I need to replace one that looks almost the same to yours.

I'm glad the video was helpful. In my particular case the unit was a Truth brand, model number 41011 and 41012. I show this information in my video. However, you should actually examine your particular unit to determine the correct brand and model number. This information will be stamped into the arm on your particular unit. Also I show in my video that you should confirm the measurement from the center of the crank pivot to the mounting hole on the arm. This is critical as you need to replace the unit with the same exact length arms. Watch the video to the end, and this will also be shown. Double check all information on your old unit to make certain you order the exact replacement. 👍

Hello, is there anything else that could cause the window from not winding in quite all the way? I have the same window crank operator model. When I wind the window closed it nicely wind's all the way but not quite all the way leaving about an inch to 1/2inch opening, i then have to use the other latch to try and catch the parts that pull the window to the lock position. I've totally greased up all the moving slides and seals and the window certainly moves a little more smoothly, however the issue remained. All in all the window is still working as intended, its just the slight hiccup that remains? I did take the crank operator out and inspected it, and from what i can tell it seems fine? I'm not opposed to buying a new crank operator, I was just wondering if you had any thought on this? Thanks in advance!!!

Hi! I'm glad to be of help, if I can. The mechanism that contains the "gears" for the cranking of the window often spread apart. The housing is made of a white metal and is soft. When the housing deforms or spreads apart a bit, the slight pressure of the housing on the gears is relieved. That can cause the gears to not full mesh, causing the window to not full close. As a temporary "fix", you can remove the closure assembly from the window, and using a vice, slightly squeeze the housing together to put the slight tension back onto the gears. Somehow protect the housing when it's in the vice, otherwise you'll damage the finish. While you can try this, I don't necessarily recommend this as a permanent repair. You will be better off buying new replacement closure units. They aren't that expensive and usually fix the issue. Also, check all pivot points of your window to ensure everything moves as it should with no binding at any spot. I hope this helps, good luck with your repair! 👍👍

@@lilredcrvtt Hello & Thanks very much for the response, after my first message sent i went on old trusty uutbe to see if there was something i was missing, and low and behold there were two adjustment mechanisims on either end of the stationarey control arms, once the ends of each of these are readjusted the window seems to pull in a little further....does this make sense? Apparent the company sells a casement window wrench for these mechanisims that periodically need adjustment. Thanks again!!! the window is now pulling in alot closer than it was....the bottom was easily adjusted but the top was more difficult to adjust, however it is pulling in way further than it was, i dnt think ill be needing a new crank operator just yet. Thanks again for your video, it put a fire under my azz to investigate my window. 👍

@andre7733 you're welcome! I did mention to check for binding along the window, and it seems you have found the adjustment points. A lot of people over look those. I'm glad you found the suitable repair for your window! In my case the closure mechanism was too far gone and needed to be replaced. CZcams has a lot of very good information, I'm glad you found the right solution. 👍👍
