I love this. While the lead character is brash, the structure and writing are so complex and subtle.
This is an absolute tour de force by the remarkable Beatrix Lehmann, who maintains a wonderful character voice despite her distinguished upbringing.
"Beatrix Alice Lehmann (1 July 1903 - 31 July 1979) was a British actress, theatre director, writer and novelist."
Amongst her many achievements, "she was awarded Britain's Radio Actress of the Year in 1977."
"There are 12 portraits of Lehmann in the British National Portrait Gallery Collection."
"She came from a family of notable achievers: the third of four children of author and publisher Rudolph Chambers Lehmann. Her great-uncle was Henri Lehmann, the artist. Her brother was publisher John Lehmann and one of her two elder sisters was the novelist Rosamond Lehmann."
Beatrix's partner, American Henrietta Bingham, was also a high achiever from a notable family, and also apparently quite a character!
"On the spur of the moment in 1930, Henrietta bought a Bentley Speed Six Mulliner drophead coupé, and she and Beatrix set off on a tour of Europe going via Stockholm to Berlin, Munich and Paris, enjoying the Roaring Twenties night life."

Why if 2 actors cannot have the same name can two productions or works be permitted. The Eye of the Needle is a book by Ken Follette about a German WW2 spy. A movie , also called that is available and is the same story and now this but a completely different story. If I was the author Alun Richards, I would call my work something that was unique.
