I love how you do things really down to earth... Just putting things together the way how real tinkerers do... Dirty cheap, no hassle, no fancy factor... Just the barebones of what is really required.
On that same fashion, you can just find some piece of tracing paper (or drawing mylar if you want to get a little fancier) and wrap - in a loosy way - around your wooden light fixture (to form like a 10 inch cylinder around the lamps).
This will have a small downside of attenuating the light a little, but you will get a much softer light and get rid of the "hard" cast shadows, and the hard hotspot reflexes that can come off of shiny surfaces.
You can use a circle of rigid wire to give shape to the hanging cylinder of tracing paper.

Hi John! Love your DIY for you bench lighting! Since you used 12V LEDs, if you ever lost power, you could just run these off a 12V battery!

If you are able to get purely passive LEDs, ie a chip in a fixture, running them off a linear constant current driver is a good idea as they don't create EMI unlike a lot of off the shelf lights with cheap switching drivers. They cause conducted and radiated noise on your oscilloscope.

I use led lamp hook on robot arm clamp on my working table (usually for microphone). I can move the lamp position freely.

Man, you just sent me way back to The Chamebers Brothers: Time Has Come Today. All for self installed lighting. You just never know.
Hope you had a good Thanksgiving. Catch you in the next one.

Glad to see John have new video coming out, someone please send camera clamp solution for John. I have similar setup as John, got an aluminum strip and stick 2 CREE LED on it, and use an old Lenovo 18V notebook as power, works very nice.

My bench light is made of a 15$ 5m cold white LED strip that I cut up into 30cm pieces which I then glued to a square board. The light output and distribution is phenomenal. Only downside is that is consumes 30W (not including PSU losses).
