- Natalie Dessay sings the Poison Aria from Gounod's Romeo et Juliette live from the Metropolitan Opera in 2006. I saw this production and immediately decided that I needed to see it again. Natalie Dessay and Ramon Vargas were magical. This was a wonderful production.
She is and will always remain one of the greatest. Viva Natalie!

Well she performed the opera at the Met in both 2005 and 2006. This performance was on March 4th, 2006. I remember listening to the broadcast (that would be the third time I heard this production live!). So you're right that she sang this role in 2005 as well. :-) I like your CZcams name! I should extract more from the recording. Maybe I'll post the final duet.

She's wonderful, but isn't this role a bit big for her? She's so wonderfully dramatic and gorgeous, but that's a hell of a lot of orchestra to sing over. I do wish I had seen this performance.

@LoveDessay You have shivers. I don't. But this is at least the fifth time I've listened to this and every time about 1.40 my eyes start filling up and by the end my face is wet. I don't know if it is her musicality combined with the wonderful Met orchestra, or if it is Natalie's acting ability coming through, conveying emotion. Not bad for a comic genius.

Je ne préfère pas Netrebko, moi. Alors, j'aime bien Dessay. C'est mon avis. :)
In my opinion her voice is too fragile for this. Because of that, the interpretation, though utterly correct, gives no shivers...
@@noeraulgarciasaldivar7917 Netrebko not at all. Angela Gheorghiu yes, but not in this role. You do not know how this aria should be sung. Search for other voices, who are also capable of chest accents to see the difference. A light voice doesn't make it here.
Ce n'est pas pour elle, c'est beaucoup trop lourd et les notes centrales affaiblissent sa voix. Mais musicalement, c'est bien sûr magnifique. Quand on pense que .... Barbara Hendricks l'a aussi chanté, on se montrera clément.
