Untitled Goose Game - Any% Speedrun [

- EDIT: Been real busy with the tail end of GDQx and AGDQ submissions & registration to where I haven't gotten a decent chance to update the description for this video to reflect recent times. There are way too many comments to reply to all of them, so I'll add an FAQ here addressing some of the more common comments I've seen.
Q1: "This run is invalid because you used glitches, why do you think this run is valid?"
A1: This run is valid because glitches are universally allowed for speedruns as long as you aren't using outside sources to alter the game code. There exists a glitchless category for this game which bans the use of prop flying, clips, and various abuses of the game geometry. I might run that category eventually since it looks fun too!
Q2: "You didn't do all the tasks on the list, which should mean this isn't an any% run, right?"
A2: Any% has always meant that you complete "any amount of the game" necessary to reach the end as fast as possible. The category that corresponds to completing all the objectives in the game is the 100% category, although this game also has an "All Main Tasks" category now!
Q3: "Did you know about *insert some new trick/clip/ect or trick from another run or the DeSinc video*?
A3: Yes, I do. Most of these mentioned tricks were found very shortly after I posted this run 2 days after the game came out. I found prop flying literally on my casual playthrough on release day and was the first to find a skip for areas 1 and 2 (this video uses prop flying to skip areas 1, 2, and 3, which afaik was first found by a runner named Emily). This also leads nicely into the next question...
Q4: "Hey your time got beaten, it's now a 3:XX/2:XX, are you aware?"
A4: Yep, it happened shortly after I posted my run in fact! I just haven't gotten a good chance to update the description accordingly for this video until now, since all my recent GDQ related activity has finally calmed down. As of the time I posted this video, this was the WR, but the current record as of my writing this FAQ, the record has been lowered to a 2:24 by a runner named yisk. Q5: "I'm pretty sure the time you listed is wrong? It should be 8:45/10:42/ect"
A5: Timing for this game starts the moment you first press Y to honk, and ends the frame the bell hits the ground. By that timing scheme, this ends up being a very low 8:27.
Q6: "Why didn't you put the rake in the lake?"
A6: ???
Alright, that should cover everything I can think of right now, I'll probably add more stuff to this as I think of it. I'll leave the original description for this video below this line for posterity.

Despite technically being a world record, the optimization of this route is in constant flux due to how this game literally just came out, so expect this to be obsoleted very, very soon with a route change or persistence with attempts from me or other runners.
That being said, this game is hilarious and I love it. Expect to see more of these in the coming weeks. Hopefully someone will be able to find a way to break into that gate that leads to the end, but a really powerful invisible wall is making it difficult to find a clip. Anyways, enjoy! - Hry

Hello! I've been pretty busy with Games Done Quick stuff lately and haven't gotten a great chance to update my video description with up-to-date stuff until today! you can have the surprise completely ruined for you however if you simply took the time to look around the main starting point.
to be fair its another, completely different surprise once you get to the bell, but they really should of blocked off the pit with something.
I like to imagine that this goose is an evil deity that haunts this village. The villagers have killed the goose many times, but each time it dies it reincarnates and kills the person that killed it. And so now nobody is willing to fight it. But at the same time the stupid goose pisses them off so they'll still shoo you away and stuff.
It also must be a pain to build that miniature church once every year as a ritual to appease the Anseris Crusiatu, goose god of torment.

The year is 20XX, geese have evolved to the point of being a major threat to human life as we know it. Using extreme intellect, perception, or maybe even somehow seeing the future, these birds are able to easily work around any situation presented to them. Thankfully, they do not seem to care for anything other than harmless pranks on their human underlings. Still, it’s only a matter of time before things turn for the worse.

So what happens to speed runs when the developers patch the exploit? Are they invalid then?
AFAIK they get "archived", in a sense. Like, they're still considered a former world record, but they're no longer in the running for the current record. Assuming there's no way to just play on the older version and continue competing.
Sometimes a category will be made for each version, so that there can be runs with and without certain exploits. But usually people only care what the fastest time is.
It depends on the game. Some games are purposefully run on older versions of a game before certain glitches are patched out. I feel like the most common thing I see is that people will run whichever version of the game allows them to get the fastest time.
People run on whatever patch lets them achieve the fastest time. If a prepatched game is absurdly broken to the point a speedrun is trivial and too simple (see: Oblivion) then generally the community will agree on using the newest patch instead.

I was waiting for someone speedrunning this masterpiece of a game. well done
This is really well done, I can see how this run is pretty well optimized already but it can obviously get faster, you had a few slip ups, such as not being able to untie the shoes on the first try as well as other npc difficulties and using this route and minimizing error you could shave off I'm thinking around 30 seconds, but that's only if a new route is discovered, this was quite entertaining to watch, and I'll have to try using the binky to sequence break

That glitch that let us skip 3 of the 4 zones is awesome, but there is still a lot of place for optimisation in your run
Finally seeing the end of this game after so long makes me feel nostalgic
*whistles* Okay, maybe it was beaten pretty quickly, but this is still an impressive speedrun! Though I find it amusing that, arguably, a speedrun is a "good" ending for the village -- the goose may have gotten that bell again, but it was much less of a pest to all the people in the village! XD

Hey I'm trying the speedrun but I'm having trouble with the pacifier skip, did you use turbo because I can get half way but not 100%. Maybe do a tutorial?
For that trick, there's some weirdness to it, but make sure goose has run mode toggled on, and just do the drops/grabs rhythmically like in this video. Also, when you reach the top you kind of have to wiggle the control stick between right and up a few times.

So, I'm not a speedrunner by any means, just an avid goose game player, but the spots on the current I see the most room for optimization is the pub, like maybe a more efficient way to get all the objects to the table. Do you have to do all of the quests to get the last task to trigger? I know in previous areas there was usually only a few tasks directly linked to allowing the final task that opened the next area. I'm also not sure I understand what you did with the tomato - the burly man doesn't need to see you carrying it, just to see it out in the open closer to the gate after chasing you so he'll return it where it goes, and you can then hide under the pub until he won't see you.
