Hey guys, today we're gonna talk about the number 108, a hundred and eight. Now this is a very sacred number in Hinduism. If you're a Hindu, you already know that this appears over and over in your life. But if you're a westerner, or if you come from another religion, the use of the number 108 in Hinduism is just everywhere.
Ok? So how many times should we chant a specific mantra? It's always one zero eight. How many times should be circle around a shrine? It's always 108,
and this can be really really frustrating. Because we don't understand
why this number is recommended in this religion so many times, you know? The
entire system appears to be designed around 108. Not just religious
stuff, like everything Indian is designed around this 108. For example,
there are 108 Karanas or transitions in Indian classical dance.
There are 108 musical meters or talas in Indian classical music. If you ask a priest, how many attendants or helpers (Ganas) does Lord Shiva have? He just expects you to know that it's 108. If you ask the priest, how many sacred temples does Lord Vishnu have? He will just look at you and ask you "Don't you know it is number 108?" And this can be very frustrating when you're a kid, when you're a kid growing up as a Hindu, this can be very frustrating.
Because they don't tell you why this number 108 is so important!
I don't think anybody knows this. Now, if you ask mainstream experts, even mainstream religious experts, even the mainstream religious experts in Hinduism, If you ask what is the obsession with the number 108 in ancient times? They will simply come up with a shallow answer like, they will usually say: Well, all religions were obsessed with some number. For example, you know Christianity was obsessed with the number 3, because of the Trinity and all that stuff . And so a random number was picked in Hinduism and they assigned various things to this number.
Now, this is a typical explanation that you will get. But there are deeper meanings to this number. This is not a natural number and the reason why 108 was used by ancient
civilizations was no coincidence. Because 108 is the basis of life itself. I know that's a big statement but one zero eight is the basis of life. Without this number, without this 108 there's no life at all. Now, what do I mean by this? For example, If you're a healthy adult, you will breathe 108 times.. this many times during sunshine, you will breathe 108 multiplied by hundred times (108 x 100), during sunshine. And you will breathe one hundred and eight times, hundred (108 x 100) during moonshine. So you will have 10800
breaths during daytime and you will have 10800 breaths during night time. Now this is prescribed in ancient Hindu practices, Ok?
There's a particular sect called Tantric Hinduism and if you look at that, they actually tell you that this is the exact number of times that human beings will breathe, if they're very healthy. But is this a mere coincidence? Could this be a mere coincidence? I'll tell you why ancient Hindus were doing this. For example, we're talking about sunshine and moonshine, right? So, the basis of life comes from two gods. Now, this is the Sun right, so this is the Sun and this is the moon, Ok? This is a crazy diagram!
I'm showing sun and the moon and you you don't see anything wrong with this. But this is a crazy diagram and only human beings can understand these figures as sun and moon. If an alien was observing this diagram from Mars, for example, he would be rolling on the floor laughing. You know why? Because the actual size of the moon would be like this and the actual size of the Sun would be like this. So technically, I should represent like this. This is the Sun and the dot is the moon. But why do we see them as the same size? Now, this is special only for earth. No other planet has this we see them both as the same sized objects

@@RealPraveenMohan HI Praveen)) I discovered some time ago, before I even found your channel or began studying Hinduism, that if you take any two consecutive whole numbers and subtract the square roots (sq root of 4 minus sq root of 3 for example), then take the sq root of the result 107 times, it equals 1. This breaks mathematics as you can't reverse the process by squaring 1 back up to get back to where you started. Total number of steps to reach this point: 108. I had no idea at the time of the significance of 108... now I know :)

I have seen people of all religions using these sacred strings of beads but knew the reason. Amazingly, I am being educated at this age by this highly learned young man.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't geocentricity vs heliocentricity give you the same calculation? You just swap positions of earth and sun. How does the moon change this? @@cloudattack3279 if you study the movement of planets too, you can figure out the whole solar system. Suppose that scientists didn't tell us anything. Still we can figure out the exact body around which other bodies(planets are revolving).
Mercury and Venus are seen moving with the sun sometimes forward or backward of it. So we can conclude that mercury and Venus are orbiting the sun and near to it.
The mars and other planets generally move forward then retrograde a little and then again forward.
If these were circling the earth, then why do they reverse sometimes?
Just figure out, you will get the same idea as it's now.

In the USA, Russia and the whole western world, that Guru from the Hare Krsna people, is considered as the topmost authority in hindu scriptures... not only that, he was the person responsible for spreading Hinduism around the world. So cool, was looking forward to your words when it suddenly ended. Some years ago, I searched for meaning of 108, it is astounding but there was 108 in everything so I gave up searching for more, understanding that 108 as ratio, as multiple, etc. is geometry of Universe i.e. Universal law according to which Cosmos work. Thus, Ancient Indian Rishis created all science and technology on Earth in sync with Universal law/Dharma/Geometry i.e. 108 for creating synergy between human and nature and thus easing process of Moksha by humans which is core of Hinduism.
Temples in India are also built in ratio of 108. Temple architecture in India is an architectural form of human body. If you put the blueprint of human body side by side ancient temple's architecture, you will see the entrance of temple correlates with feet (ancient temples are vastly spread out with various entrances of various kinds each signifying some aspect), the further you go in you reach the heart of the Temple where the Paramatma/Diety resides i.e. Garbha Griha/inner sanctorum, correlating with Vakshsthal/heart region in human body where Atma/Soul resides, and further up is the head. It also can be interpreted as journey through 7 chakras from Muladhara to Sahastra and thereby attaining Moksha by looking inward/Antar dhyan, as everything in Hinduism is around breaking cycle of rebirth. Additionally, since ancient Indian temples were energy centres, temples helped upward movement of Prana Shakti/energy/Kundali towards Sahastra Chakra. Thus, helpful for those into Yogic practices.
The various ratios in the architecture of temple and also in human body are 108, one of many examples - there are 108 Marma points on body, used till today in Kerala's Kalaripayattu/mother of all global martial arts. There are 108 Yog path. Ideally, Surya Namaskar is prescribed to be done 108 times, Sun, the astronomical ratio you mentioned and Universal law it represents is the reason behind it. 1 Jap mala = 108 times repetition, Brahmins do 1000 times 108 chants for attaining special objective. And the ultimate chant, every Indian household tells kids to chant OM 108 times, Om which is sound representation of entire Cosmos and 108 = rules/geometry of creation itself which Hinduism call Dharma i.e. Universal law according to which Cosmos work. Which is why 1+0+8 = 9, no. which represents Dharma in India.
1,008 and so forth are equally sacred. There has to be other significance of Zero that ancient Indians created it for. Shunya/0 signifies both completeness and nothingness, both facts represented in its mathematical properties i.e. completeness/Purna - A. It can't be increased = multiple anything with 0 = 0, (0x2 = 0) it is whole. B. It can't be divided = divide 0 by anything is still 0, (0/2 = 0) it is whole. C. BUT, division by zero i.e. completeness/whole gives = infinity i.e. infinite pieces indicating that Zero is complete and that complete is infinite! Any no., howsoever large when divided by completeness= infinity. AND Zero is also nothingess = A. Add 0 to any no. (2+0 = 2) and the no. remains unaffected as zero here means nothing. B. Subtract 0 from any no. (2-0=2) and the no. remains unaffected as if zero doesn't exist, is nothing/Shunya. [Though if you subtract a number from 0., (0-2 = -2), 0 remains unaffected i.e. complete/nothing, but the no. becomes negative which is a theoretical concept. Physically, there is no negative i.e. nothing can be below 0/Shunya/nothingness, a quantity can be an infinitely small no. and might approach zero but never go below zero. Even cold temperatures are theoretically considered negative because freezing point of known water is taken as reference point, any heat above it is positive, any heat howsoever small below it is negative, so that it is convenient to measure infinite temperatures on both ends of extreme cold and heat. It is akin to marking 1st Century A.D. as reference point on a scale and time stretching on both ends]. Shunya/0 is often used in Vedic schools of thought and by saints following dvaita/advaita i.e. dualism and non-dualism of Atma/Soul and Paramatma/God. Even the symbol Indians chose to represent Shunya was a circle - complete AND ending where you started or Sthir/unmoving/leading to nothing/repeat cycles of life itself. Likewise Indian, Sanskrit numeral symbols of 1 & 9 and esp. 3 and 6, its as if signifying 3 is opposite of 6 or if you combine 3 and 6 you get 9 esp. when interpreted through Jyotish (apart from obviously the mathematical properties of 3, 6, 9).
Since Vedic Jyotish is astronomy representation of cosmos on paper, even houses 3, 6, 9 refer to Self efforts, Service to others and Dharma respectively, i.e. mathematically or by practice in life combine 3 and 6 in life and you get Dharma/Universal law signified by no. 9 = all of which forms core of Hinduism. This is why 1+8 = 9 or Dharma/Universal law of Cosmos is also another oft repeated no. in creation and human body, Dharma is the rules by which Cosmos work and ideally humans should follow for perfect life, mathematically we all know its unique properties. Navratri/9 nights, Dharma itself is no. 9, Mangal is no. 9 and a zillion 9 related Hinduism structures, science and festivals. Use Vaastu Shastra/Science of architecture and it uses these nos. esp. 3, 6, 9 in similar way.
Vaastu Shastra is architectural form of cosmos which can be seen in ancient Indian temples and Palaces constructed as per Vaastu shastra, and works on exact same principles as houses in Jyotish. Incidentally, 1+8 = 9, Jyotish represents Sun by 1, Saturn by 8 and Dharma as 9 and though enemies in Jyotish, both Sun and Saturn represent Dharma, Sun as the ideal Cosmic Dharma and Saturn as Human Dharma which is why Saturn/Sade Sati gives fair results as per KArma to humans. Incidentally the story of Father Sun- Son Saturn itself shows the struggle of Humans in trying to follow Cosmic Dharma. Ancient Indian Rishis ensured entire cosmos represented by 108 was decentralized and used in each and every houshol'd daily life, we all use these numbers daily even till today, even without knowing the significance of it.
Indian science is unlimited, like Cosmos itself, one can go on and on.

I have no words no words. After a few teachers lecture in my school days, this the only video I watched with utmost concentration. I am overwhelmed. There is a very important and significant star everyone can see in the sky called Alkaid that is 108 light-years from Earth. It is the last star in the handle of the Big Dipper and was used for many alignments on earth for monuments, temples etc.! Coincidence? I think not. This star may actually be more important to humanity than we currently know! Your thoughts?
