  • ETS which stands for Electric Train Service is an inter-city rail service operated by the Malaysian national railway operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM).
    It is the fastest metre gauge train service in Malaysia that currently operates along the electrified and double-tracked stretch of the West Coast Line between Gemas and Padang Besar on the Malaysia-Thai border.
    The trains travel up to 140 km/h (87 mph) on an electrified metre gauge rail line. Therefore, the ETS can be classified as a Higher Speed Rail train service.
    In this video, I will attempt to show the difference between ETS Gold vs Platinum:
    1) ETS Gold: Ipoh to KL Sentral
    Price: RM38, USD8.35
    2) ETS Platinum: KL Sentral to Ipoh
    Price: RM48, USD10.55

    A few things you may want to add:
    1) It depends on where you are going/coming from. If you are going to/coming from the stations which are only served by ETS Gold, then Platinum is out of the question. For example, if you are heading southwards beyond KL to Gemas, there's only ETS Gold svcs for that section.
    2) Not all ETS Gold serve the same stations. For example, the ETS Gold svcs from Gemas (& stop through KL) skip certain stops as well which the Gold svcs starting from KL-Ipoh svcs do not, like Kepong Sentral, Slim River & Sungkai stations. Furthermore only the Gold svc from Gemas - Padang Besar stops at Rawang, while only the Gold svc from Gemas to Butterworth stops at Batang Kali. So overall, the additional stops for these Gold svcs from Gemas as compared to Platinum is Tapah Road station & Rawang/Batang Kali as mentioned above.

    The summary slide at the end was so helpful. I'm trying to buy a business class and I don't know how to do it. But your summary card slide made it very clear that it's only available on Platinum, and Platinum is only available to the public 24 hours before the day it departs. This information is missing from so much YT videos. Thank you for providing it.

    I want to go from kl to ipoh soon but I have one of those very large size pieces of luggage and it's also very heavy (I can barely lift it!). The luggage racks you showed on the trains look small and I only see smaller size luggage on them..do you think larger luggage will fit on them?
    Also, I saw someone warning about thieves on trains in Malaysia on a forum but he didn't explain what the danger is. Are you aware of any theft issue on the trains? Is our luggage safe left unattended on the racks?

    • @zacctravelsofficial
      @zacctravelsofficial  Před měsícem

      @Chris-dw6cu, I am not sure the size that is very large but you may try to see if the seats for disabled are taken or not in the train that you choose. If not, you may choose the seats near that (cabin D, with signs show for disabled seats) because there are a lot of space there. Or check with the train staff to give you suggestions.

      @zacctravelsofficial  Před 8 měsíci +5

      @jimmyyap8825, you may check on the summary for the difference at: 10:21 in the video. Yes, there will be more stops using Gold and hence, a little longer duration. If you have time, then you may just choose the Gold which is cheaper. The train for Gold is also a little older but in my view, not much difference compared with Platinum.

    Im not sure if I missed it but how much are the fares for Gold and Platinum?
    Will it be difficult to just walk into the station and buy the tickets at the counter?
    How far is the station from KL international airport?

    • @zacctravelsofficial
      @zacctravelsofficial  Před 11 měsíci +2

      @matildasmom2876, the price difference for Gold and Platinum depending on route. For KL -> Ipoh, the difference between Gold and Platinum is around RM10. You may get into the risk of not getting the ticket for the time slot if you walk to the counter. You may check online here: online.ktmb.com.my/. The distance from KL Sentral to KLIA by car is around 60km. However, there are many ways to go to KL Sentral from KLIA. It depends on your budget. You may choose: KLIA Transit Train, Grab (e-hailing), Bus, etc

    KL - Pg, Standard seat rm70++, business seat rm140++. In business the number of seat per row is reduce to 3 instead of 4, but the seat size is almost the same like standard, correct me if I'm wrong.. with this type of mentality, think there wont be any significant impact to KTMB roi. since the majority will still prefer other means of transportation.

      @fatdoi003, yes, I also similar like you, do not prefer the backward facing seats. But the good thing about buying ticket online is you can select your seats and choose the forward facing seats. If by chance the facing forward seats not available in the timeslot, then just choose another time when it is available.
