He played the role of Saruman again for The Hobbit (a story set for The Lord of the Rings which was filmed in three parts). In total, he has played in more than 270 moviesLee was born in Belgravia, Westminster, England, the son of Lieutenant Colonel Geoffrey Trollope Lee of the 60th King's Royal Rifle Corps and Countess Estelle Marie Carandini di Sarzano. His parents divorced when Lee himself was very young, and he and his sister by his mother was taken to Switzerland. There he studied with Miss Fisher's Academy in Wengen.
After his family returned to London Lee went to study at a private school. His mother married Harcourt "Ingle" Rose, a banker and step-cousin of Ian Fleming.
