All the scenes with Saba Ji and Sami Ji are phenomenal. They are at the top of their game. There is such a subtlety and confidence in their performances. Nothing feels false, overacted or out of place. It feels like they are real people struggling and striving to meet the challenges of existence, in their situation, with their histories and in their own skins. Beautiful. Maa Shaa Allah. We should be proud of our own artists before we go heaping praise on people from other industries and worse still only acknowledging and fawning over our artists when they have worked abroad. However, these amazing artists cannot make up for the shortcomings in the narrative that seem to deepen with every passing episode. Noor- it seems that Behram has tried a type of shock therapy with Noor by showing her Salman's wedding. In reality, this type of action is highly responsible and no reputable psychologist would do it because it could just have easily resulted in a psychotic break for Noor or ended in Salman, his new wife or Kiran Ji dead. Noor has tried to kill them before! As it is, Noor has turned into some kind of Sage who is talking in poetry and philosophy like the Guru of an Ashram all the time and this is being presented as Noor is cured??? Really, she is still obsessed with Salman, still in love with him. All that has happened is that she has stopped talking about it. The trouble is that the writer has no real understanding of the psychological conditions that he has given these characters. Some are curable such as PTSD which is what Behram and Jura had, or depression which Natha and the boy who wants to go to America had, and some forms of OCD such as Jura hitting himself with shoes. However, Bipolar Spectrum, Narcissism and Schizophrenia have no cures. They can be managed through medication and therapy but not cured and certainly not by any means deployed in this narrative. Salman is not capable of love, he says it himself now it seems the writer is trying to convince us that he is in love with both Tania and Noor??? It is not possible for Salman to feel emotional empathy with another. He can intellectually understand that other people are hurt by his actions but he does feel for them. What we are suddenly seeing is Salman 'feeling' for Noor and Tania. This makes no sense. He has had one very poor session with Behram, he is not on medication so how is he suddenly growing a conscience about the misdeeds of his narcissistic sister?? Salman is a narcissist who is raised by a narcissist. He can behave as though he is in love, it can look like love to an observer but it doesn't feel like love to him. He is an imposter. We could see this clearly in the early episodes which was incredible but now the writers want to redeem Salman which is why we are seeing Salman so remorseful and wrestling with his own nature. Sami Ji is terrific and makes it feel real to us if only we had no knowledge of what is means to be a narcissist. It would have been braver to have shown Salman as he is, a self-loving self-preservationist who will do anything to keep his own image central in his mind. It is disappointing that the writing is in the 'fantasy land' of happily ever afters with Salman turning over a new leaf. I hope they turn away from this plotline or actually have Salman get treatment for his personality disorder. We still haven't heard his full story because as usual, the Pari/Behram combo can't stop interrupting when patients are speaking. It happened again in Izhaar's retelling in this episode and it stopped the flow of the conversation for no reason!!! We have ti get better at this stuff people.
Agreed with you. I'm not an expert, but mental health has always inspired me to core. You're right about the writer's lack of understanding regarding mental health disorders. However, I'm glad this script is not ordinary but different from other scripts. The storyline is amazing, yet a lot of improvisation is needed. Anyway, they should have mentioned how they diagnosed them because, in some cases, I strongly feel that diagnosis is misleading the treatment. Dr. Maria's role has been unclear to me since the first episode.
