Had taken an overnight train to Kherson from the same station in Kyiv in 2006. India has a broader gauge (5' 6""). So the amazing aspect of the train in Ukraine (and in Russia) for me was the height of the coaches. The upper bed in the sleeper has leg room that goes above the corridor (vestibule) making it possible for a tall person (190 cm say) to sleep there stretching his legs. That may be another reason why the compartment appeared so much airy.

Hi, I use to take this intercity between Kyiv to Kharkiv, so good commuting use and it is worth the low ticket price even in first class, in my opinion is much better to take second class, seats are very comfortable, I take this train by business matters and you can use your laptop all the time without lacks of service.
I recommend taking this Intercity in winter also, you will see the wonderful and huge landscape totally snowed, heating works perfectly and WC is usually very clean.
Despite the distance between these two cities, 450 km, the total trip is 4 hours and twenty minutes usually. If you have the opportunity to do this trip, Kharkiv is the second large city in Ukraine and there are so many good places to pay a visit, spend at least one week.

If you look at it on a map, you will realise how it got that nickname. There was a very big step up to the carriages there. My mum said that when she went on a school trip to Paris in the early 1960s, the French trains were similar. Maybe that was once the norm on continental railways? Do any rail historians reading know?

Great report! @6:20 are you sure those seats are comfortable? They don't look very comfortable, especially for an 8 hour trip to Kolomyya (which I have coming up). I may drive instead from Moldova or Romania or even Slovakia, although you cannot bribe police for speeding any more nor can I sit back and drink vodka and have naps if driving. Anyways again great video I am glad you tried the catering!

Fantastic value meal, I would have paid maybe an extra 50p for someone to go and get it for me though 😂 and I reckon the cats probably smelt the food - harsh!

Many tracks are being reconstructed though right now and stations also get reconstructed like the Lviv Rail station, which got a complete reconstruction. It evacuates, it employs veterans, it’s the only transportation (except private vehicles, of course), that connects people inside Ukraine and Ukraine with the rest of the world. For me, the main problem of the UZ is the accessibility for disabled people. It’s always been a problem actually but now it’s more visible than ever. But UZ is doing its best and working on it
