According to my stopwatch the MS400 took 21.6 seconds and the MS500 took 19.5 seconds. Considering the MS400 has a much lower price, lower vibration, lower fuel consumption and notably lower weight- it makes it an easy winner for cutting trees of this size. The MS500 only makes sense if you need to pull 28-32" bars a lot for big work.

Nice saw running comparison. My curiosity🤔 is what type of chain are you using? I'm finding a lot of guys running the 500i on these videos are running standard chain. I prefer half skip and full skip chain on the larger saws over 70cc for speed. It makes a big difference. Keep up the great work 👍👍
I hear ya! You know how many youtube videos I watch before I buy something anymore? A LOT! If you have any questions about either saw, I’ll give you my honest opinion.
I would go get a 400c today but I have 2 issues. I can’t find 1 & I’m out of trees. I still want want though, I’m thinking it would make a perfect team mate for my 261cm
Hi guys I'm not a professional but I've heated my house with straight wood for about 35 years sugar maple little bit of Hickory Elm when I could get it anyway I use Stihl but I see all the professional guys that are on camp jobs or helicopter or whatever seem to be using Husqvarna is that cuz they're easier to port or what am I missing????
Interesting but not really a fair comparison. 500i is 79 cc and 6.7 bhp where as the 400c is 67cc and 5.4 bhp. Both great saws but it's kinda like bringing a knife to a gunfight.
500i has the rpms to run the 28" The extra links equate to 11% more cuts per cycle. Saving about 6.5 minutes per hour. I like to alternate saws each tank thinking it may add some longevity to their lives...

Agreed. For most of what we do that 400 is the ticket. The 500 is nice in big wood however. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks for the times 😂
Great short Mike. I’m in the market for a 500i this year. I need to cut some big trees this year.
You’re using a 391 right? Make sure to try a 400, 462, and 500 while you’re at HFH (if you haven’t tried them already).
Máquinas top, só não vejo esses modelos no Brasil.
Hi Fernando! They are getting hard to find here.

The firewood won😂
Sweet saws great comparison 👍👍
Thanks. They are both great saws.

Hi Ron! Both are running 050 x 3/8 Stihl full chisel. The 500 has 28” bar and the 400 has 24”
That 400 is so painfully slow. I can’t take it anymore.
Really? It’s my favorite saw. I’ve thought about buying another one. I love that saw!
Two boxers going toe to toe. My unofficial count the 500 edged her by 1second. I’d take either one. Have a good weekend, Mike
I’d say buy them both!
the 500 also had a larger bar on then the 400
@longy6612 so why does it matter if one has a longer bar?
@@johnbibbings5356 saws loose torque with longer bars
Both cutting pretty good for frozen hickory.
Hi Daniel! You can’t go wrong with either!
Is it hickory? Log below looks like silver maple.
@@mattschmitt4038 it’s maple
@@KNLFirewood I thought I had a young shagbark once, only to figure out it was maple.
I’m saving up for something I like to do research before I buy I need 300 more

I think the 880 would beat both of them..😜👍
I would think so.
the 881 is better than the 880 by a litle bit i found

@@KNLFirewood if I’m not mistaken, aren’t they @$1000 with 25” bar?
@@bradleymaddy7380 last I checked, yes.
Id take either one!!
Both are excellent saws!
They both cut around 22 to 23 seconds
Both pretty good saws. 500i at 79cc is a bit faster than the 400C at 67cc.
2 awesome saws ⛓🪚💪👍👏🇺🇸
You said it. Love both of them!

I think the 400 takes it🏆
Of course you would!
Lmao 😁🇺🇸
Where is the 462c in this race? Both are awesome saws!
I don’t have a 462. I’ve heard it’s just as fast as the 500i and maybe a little bit lighter to boot.
My 462 started collecting dust when I got a 400 few years ago.
@@maxm921 haha I’m the same way man. My 400c is my favorite saw.
What size bar was on the 400c?
24” or 25”…whatever stihl calls their light bar. It’s a perfect fit.
@@KNLFirewood hello, those light bars need some kind of lubrication on the nose side?
@@gravityloose Hi Spaceman! There is no place to lubricate. Stihl does say the nose can be replaced several times before the bar is toast!

661 mag vs the winner
Well that’s maybe unfair 😂. But I’m down for a challenge.
It’s cookie time 😜
Yes sir!
500i 😁
Both almost identical, only difference is the 400 is 67cc carbureted while the 500 is 79cc fuel injected
400 is my favorite for what I do. Love them both
2 great machines, would be fairer if you had the same bar on the 500i as the 400. It's gonna take longer to cut with a longer bar. 500i for me anyway.
Hi John! True. Neither one were broken in either. I should do it again. Thanks for watching.
