The island had 3 airfields during ww2. The central one was the main airfield classed for bombers. It's the original and basicly the one the jsdf are currently using. The 2 other airfields were built just before ww2 as a fighter and scout base. At the time of the battle for iwo jima, the Japanese navy was basicly capout and it's air force was losing planes at least 3 times faster than they could build them. The Japanese moved all planes into 2 groups. 1st was at the mainland and the second was Taiwan. Basicly, the only forces on the island were infantry. From what I could gather, the tanks on the island were not operable and were either used as turrets or salvaged for guns.
We havdn't enough fuel for their tanks, so when they hear that US army was coming, they use them as turrets or put the guns into cave/bunker.
My uncle fought on Iwo he was part of the first wave he was one of the few men from the wave to survive
Oh my. Hill 362 was mentioned in a Medal of Honor citation for Pharmacist Mate 1st class John Harlan Willis. That place was deadly.
The Pacific War DLC honestly makes infantry playable. Usually without armor, SS4 is basically unplayable, but the upgraded explosives gives your riflemen satchel charges; those things can one-tap any structure in the game, as far as I can tell, and they're absolutely ludicrous for dealing with bunkers. One rifleman to throw a satchel, one to throw a smoke grenade, and a squad to suppress the bunker is my go-to tactic, and it works each time, every time. Flamethrowers are an acceptable alternative.
God damn, seeing this game brought me back when I played Codename Panzer: Phase Two when I was like 6 or 7

The Japanese only had very few tanks, most were either broken down or out of fuel. The two that were running tried an attack at the main airfield and our guys shredded them. The Japanese flame throwers are only in there for game balance - just like all the mobile armor they have!

This game and scenario especially has a lot of potential. Just feels like it lacks the ambience needed to really get immersed. A shame, cause this could be pretty awesome.
Sudden strike 3 is much better. Especially with Batus unit mod.

Only way it could've gone better is if the me satin was not tracked by a mine, but some things cant be predicted, a hell of a battle and a great victory.
dlc just came out so I will get this soon and sudden strike 4 is a really good game so I recommend anyone to download it. I play on Xbox 1 so I don't think I can play with you

I don't really understand the appeal of this game. I get that it's a continuation of a late '90s series and therefore retains the mechanics of the classics. But games like Company of Heroes and Men of War have far exceeded it in terms of gameplay, strategy, intensity... basically in every way. I mean, the defenders weren't even shooting at you!
