Need to clarify the "hug the left wall" technique, even at a dead end, you still follow the left wall, imagine your hand running along the walls, you'd just do a U-turn and continue to follow the left wall.
Yes but some maze designers know of the trick and so design their maze do it doesn't work. It's not that hard to prevent it

@@BanditLeader but it would've worked on every actual maze here (I don't count the obstacle courses disguised as mazes, but it worked for them too technically). They just gave up at the first dead end cause they didn't actually understand the method.

EDIT: The "stick to the left" strategy does work. You're supposed to hit dead ends as you wrap around the left side. That's how it works. It only fails if the exit is hidden inside an island. Every time they hit a dead-end and were like "oh it doesn't work," hurt me.

It only works on very simple mazes without loops
@@LochyP Yeah, technically it can work if there are cycles in the maze but the reason the 'left/right wall" trick works is you're guaranteed to (at worst) hit every intersection so you're guaranteed to eventually get to the end of the maze. But, if one of those intersections contains a cycle you'll always go in a circle and even if you decide to break out, you may end up back at the cycle.

Hugging the left wall works as long as there's no islands. Hugging the left wall wont save you from hitting dead ends, you just turn around and continue hugging the left wall.

The design of all the different mazes were so cool! I know this is supposed to be bargain bin Diversity but I think all the different puzzles have been really good!
Its nice to see something other than TTT for a change. Also its always a treat having Simon on.
The left hug rule does work but with a few weird notes: if you come to a dead end, turn around and keep following the left hand rule (technically the rule if just to keep walking with either hand on a wall so "dead ends" don't really exist, it just means you're doing a 180 turn), it also only works for "simple mazes" (technical term, not just elitism lol) which are mazes where the walls are fully connected, if you have an island of walls that aren't connected to the rest of them the rule might not work

Man I've not really watched The Yogscast since 2016. Used to watch them nonstop from 2011-2016. This is bringing back so many good memories. Giving me loads of nostalgia. Yogscast just wasn't the same without Simon.

The left hug worked, you just weren't paying attention while still left hugging. If you left hug, you can only go on one wall length, which will always be the correct way unless you somehow end up in an area with four complete walls, kind of defeating the whole MAZE part. Left hugging or Right hugging, as long as you follow the same wall around all corners, will lead to the exit.
