- Well despite the efforts of this series returning for a limited run, it didn't seem to pay off because of the ratings that seemed to have started somewhat okay to low in the end =( you would've figured people wanted to see a different type of singing show but it seems there's too much singing fatigue...but let's hope it does return but if it doesn't, i guess this is another sad series finale :/...thanks for watching everyone and let's hope for a season 5!
I wasn't at all surprised about who won..i wouldn't say i called it but it didn't surprise me cause these groups always stand out and win in the end...but did you guess the winner? - Zábava
Loved the part where Chris and Adam Rupp of Home Free held the trophy together. They started the group - they deserve it!
And I love that Tim encouraged that.........such humility, all of them.

Question: Why would Home Free winning this thing require any goddamn suspense whatsoever? They blew everyone out of the water. It wasn't even CLOSE.
It was a bad idea for me to watch their performances first. Every performance was solid, and like you said, no one came close.

I know it's been two years since you've written that, but no matter. My daughter & I just went to see them at Kalamazoo, Mi. a month ago, and they were incredible. My wife and I saw them there two years prior; they've gotten a new sound system and stage, and they sound AWESOME. I know that word's bandied about a lot, but it's the only one that describes what we were hearing. Adam's "drum solo" has totally changed, and it is just kick-ass. We were entertained, to say the least.

Darrell, you have a very talented, beautiful sister. All the group's showcased not only their singing abilities but also their classy behaviour. Their support and friendship with each other made this show extremely enjoyable.

I really hope the show doesn't get cancelled, its the only singing competition that shows off pure talent in arrangement and singing. Even the "worst" groups on the show have a gift that you don't often hear on the radio. How a zombie like American Idol still lives on while the Sing Off has to beg just to be aired is just a crime. At least we still have the internet to expose the skills the mainstream record execs don't find marketable.
You took the words out of my mouth. I totally agree. I realized, in realm of Acapella, I really only listen to Pentatonix. I got to listen to other great acapella artists too.

I was so happy that Home Free won!!! I loved all of the final three contestants but there was something about Home Free that made me smile after every performance!!! Haters can hate but that won't change this very justified win!!! I AM A PROUD HOME FRY!!!! :D

I like it so much more than the other singing competition shows. The performances make me happy.
There was a season 5, but it was a 2 hour special, not an actual season. And this could be seen as either good or bad, but one of the judges was replaced for the season 5 special.
The judge replaced was Ben Folds, FYI.

I'm a huge Home Free fan! They became members of the CMA shortly after their win, I was really disappointed that @Jewel didn't take them to the CMA awards that year to introduce them to the country music community. They did the work themselves and are now based out of Nashville and are a mainstay on the CMA red carpet, but and introduction on behalf of the Sing Off would have made the process much quicker.
How do you know that she didn't? Maybe she did by placing a phone call or on the other hand there could be guidelines where judges could not interfere for some reason(s) cause it could look like there was favoritism going on. So if you don't have proof then don't say anything.

Thank you MrDuckBear. From Season 1 you have been my link to this great show 'cos sadly it isn't shown in Australia. After Netherlands, France and China I am hoping that even if Season 5 doesn't eventuate other countries will take up the reigns and bring The Sing-Off and the pleasure of a cappella singing to the world.
I've watched a lot of competition shows in my life, American idol, the voice, etc.... This was the only one I ever actually called in to vote for a group. HOME FREE deserved the win, Honestly, I don't even care much for country music and I've never listened to Acapella singing but these guys are amazing! I love listening to them. I make everyone at work (in the operating room) listen to them too. They've got even more fans now!
I hate it that this show was not renewed. Will admit that I had never watched it but I wish now I had. I came across this by pure luck and can't get enough of it.

When I started watching this last year, I started referring to Home Free as PTX 2.0 after their Ring of Fire performance. And for good reason, because I rooted for their win the whole way after that.

Like, forget the whole season... this last performance of Home Free was too awesome. They heard Pentatonix's advice and really did whatever the hell they wanted with the song...
I even got some butterflies when Nick was about to announce the winner, but I kinda knew, I guess we all did... Home Free is for sure the best group this season. Clean sound, awesome lead, MONSTER bass, the BEST beatboxer (IMO better than Kevin), the cleaner harmonies and fuller sound... come on. There was no doubt.
Congratz to all groups, and congratz Home Free, you deserved it
Tim and Adam may be much better than Avi and Kevin in terms of Bass depth and Beatbox clarity, but the PTX's Meat and Potatoes are much more creative in their performances.
Jeffrey Seracarpio I guess it's about their genre... since Pentatonix is an electro type of music, it's obvious that they will use breakdowns and create rhythm breaks all the time...
Home Free is a country band after all, that's not their strongest point.
PTX and Home Free are great groups, they're just different.. I love them both =)
Just hope that Home Free get as far as PTX... hope that people all around really embrace them like they did with PTX...
And it's sad that this is like the best show about music and will probably be cancelled again...
Felipe Martins Well, it's all about marketing. I've checked out VoicePlay's youtube channel and they have songs in collaboration with Home Free, and the singers from Filharmonic, Vocal Rush and Ten. They're marketing themselves well.
Adam doesn't have to use all his skills because of the genre but that doesn't mean he's less of a beat-boxer than Kevin. What he does do, he does very well.

John Asibal: No, they aren't. They had some problems (mostly with keeping a steady rhythm and tight harmonies) in almost every of their performances while HF delivered flawlessly each of their performances (apart from one, very minor and very debatable, problem in Colder Weather).
Were they talented and entertaining? Definitely. But all 3 finalists were better than The Filharmonic imo (because they all had less problems, were more consistent and felt more versatile).

Definitely! I personally think they are the absolute best. They are too good for these competitions. But they need the exposure. They are not as famous as they should be.
They have only gotten better with age.
They are nothing short of incredible. It's hard to fathom all of the talent each individual has and they make it work
Definitely! However, going on The Sing Off was the right move at the time. It helped them get more exposure and opened up a ton of opportunities that may not have come around (or at least as quickly) had they not done the show. They should be more well known that they are, but unfortunately not everyone takes a cappella seriously. They are the best in the world in my opinion.

10 years from now these guys are making videos of the Sing Off performaces.
The reason why Vocal rush did not win is that they do not have the perfect control within their group. At least two of the members in this group wanted to "stand out" instead of helping out with the good of the group.
Well deserved! I also loved the part when Chris and Adam held the trophy. I knew Tim would cry. I'm pretty sure Adam did also. Home Free is a totally amazing group! I have loved them since I first saw them. All three groups were amazing though. Thank you for posting this.

There really wasn't any competition; Home Free was in another league from every other team from episode #1.
They have become HUGE in 2021. Just saw them in concert and they shook the roof in a sold out 3,000 - seat auditorium...

I am a great fan of Home Free, I think the series Sing Off is awesome and I hope it will continue...on another personal note I would like to hear Home Free sing arrangements of some classical reggae like Dennis Brown, Bob Marley etc.
And the trophy sits in Chris Rupp's bathroom. He's no longer in the group. (He posted a pic of it.)
He kept the trophy, I guess. He deserved it.
He started the group along with Adam and I'm willing to bet my money Chris was the one who lead and kept Home Free going for so many years, even way before they competed in Sing Off.
Even when he left the group and went solo, he got the most classy farewell I've ever seen.
What a prize what a prize plonker,, whoever ordered a microphone plaque for the winner ? You do know it's all about singing , using that as the instrument it truly is and to perfect it to sound like other instruments a capella is the name given to this type of singing.

Some would think more singers is better, I completely disagree with that assumption, as that means there is another voice that has to be PERFECTLY MIXED with the others to fit and work properly or that one voice can destroy the hard work of the others in their group. I truly think there doesn’t need to be anymore than 5 ..maybe 6 singers, depending on the depth and vocal separation that can be perfected.

I just knew home free recently..and i just knew that it was at their season that the show was facing crisis. Never thought that a precious show like this with raw talents without the help of musical instruments could have low ratings.

I watched other group's performances after watching HF performances for the whole season...gotta say Ten and Vocal Rush are good! Its just Home Free is much better.
1. They have the best bass and beatboxers, pretty similar to Avi and Kevin of PTX in the previous season.
2. Austin sings beautifully, sounds so clean and has great vocal range
3. Rob and Chris are underrated but they are both great singers and able to perfectly harmonize with Austin, the judges took note of that since the first performance.
4. As a group, they've been professionals for longer time than other contestants, they are much more prepared mentally.
5. They evolved through the entire show. Early HF didnt dance as much but you should see how they dance in their last performace.
6. They capitalized on what they are good at, see how much they give Tim's bass singing talent to shine.
Hey me too! I was so shocked to hear the other groups sing so well! I did enjoy Street Corner Renaissance.

She was at Tim's birthday party. I saw her on some videos from that party. she sing a song and Tim talks about the group.

Why are they still hawking a recording contract, when the year before Pentatonix won and Sony dropped their contract a week after they won it because they couldn’t envision a capella being profitable or that anyone would be interested in it?? Doesn’t make sense to me.
I don't know about that (it sucks, if so) but Home Free didn't need the contract - they already had one on their own merits. So the prize was contract OR x$$ so they took the money and invested it in their business. Smart move.. Sucks that PTX was screwed by that.
@@Aprlmoore Home Free actually did sign with Columbia records (owned by Sony Records) after they won the show. Their first 4 albums were released on Columbia Records. They then bought themselves out of their record deal with them so they had a bit more freedom in what they could do and started their own label in 2018 or 2019. Dive Bar Saints was their first album to be released on their own label. Austin said in an interview that they believed that Columbia Records did plan to drop Home Free within the first year just like Sony dropped Pentatonix shortly after the show, but then the Crazy Life album did better than expected so Columbia ended up keeping them. If I remember correctly I believe Austin said their contract was for 8 albums but they bought themselves out after 4 and started Home Free Records.
