Actually, I quite like both the songs and have listened to them extensively. They're a couple of the few "bubblegum pop" songs I do like (I prefer musical soundtracks). I've also looked up the music for them because I've wanted to learn an acoustic version of them. Trust me, the chord progression is near exactly the same, there's a few embellishments, but other than that, the basic song structure is exactly the same. It's not a bad thing, it's just... fact.

Being born, and raised in Southern California this song is really unbelievably stupid. Having lived on both coasts, I found that the girls (gurls?), or women were more intelligent, and could actually put two sentences together without sounding like they were 12 years old regardless of their age. I guess some guys like that, but I am not one of them.
OMG I know, right? The only few things I miss there were In-n-Out Burger, the heat, and a good friend I had, but everything else? There's a difference in California Girls and California "Gurls", not just in the spelling.
