Boy that "Purdy Shuffle" is the cats meow ... the genius of the Dan just never ceases to amaze ...
"The Hit Maker"
this
The look on your face brings me joy because that is EXACTLY how The Dan makes me feel, too! I'm so happy that younger generations are discovering this exceptional music.
I have the vinyl pressing of this album from 1977. The vinyl sounds beautiful. Analog tape mastering just sounds so detailed. That's all they had back in the day and that's all they needed. Josie is awesome from this album. Peg is another great one. Thank you for sharing.
Man, this song is so underrated.
My favorite song on Aja, which is saying a lot.
One of my All-Time Fav songs... glad you found it!
A song that alludes to Homer's Odyssey (that tired sea song, danger on the rocks, tied to the mast etc). Of course, Odysseus returned home at last after 20 years away to find no peace, his house in chaos his grown son now a 20 year old man, and no one but his dog recognizing him. A dog that subsequently licks his hand and dies. A band on the constant travel hopefully finds they're home at last.
Good to know. I use to think it was about some freaky stuff.
@@stevenmotchan2048 It is about Odysseus traveling past the deadly rocks off shore of the land of The Sirens. He demanded to be tied to the mast, while instructing all other crew to seal their ear canals with wax (so they would not be driven mad) while he alone could experience the Song of the Sirens (luring you to paradise/death on the rocks.) "You think you've heard this one before" Yes, you have. The Odyssey - Homer.
Lol didn't see your comment ,had seen this I wouldn't have written mine lol kindest regards
Maybe someone should tell her how the band got its name too funny
@@tatzantwos Yeah. Too funny and ouch!
Babylon Sisters please! 😊
I'm glad to see younger folks giving an ear to this music. Good music is timeless. Great music is transcendent. This kicked my butt 40 years ago, let it do that now. Sweet.
One of my favourite songs ever - by anyone
That guitar solo was the late great Walter Becker himself. One of his finest along with his solo on FM.
They were always on the radio in the 70s. We could stay chill all day ✌
No thinking needed
Just Meow back and enjoy the journey of life
Thank you for everything little sister.stay blessed
The whole album is a MASTERPIECE.
You are the cutest. So glad you’re enjoying. My fav group.
Your face says it all...one of my all time favs....
one of a few bands, countable on one hand, that I consider my all time favorites. . and they're from the 70's.
Bodhisattva great Steely Dan song!
Don’t forget you can skip around steely Dan and Donald Fagen time travel, be the first on your block to discover the Donald Fagen/steely Dan secret! 4 Fagen solo projects worth hearing girlfriend! You should review his first and most renowned in its entirety----the masterpiece known as THE NIGHTFLY. Part of the great steely Dan catalog also!
Just bought it, never heard it, can't wait!
@@glennburch1081 keep me posted!
Love steely Dan !!
That bass Chuck Rainy 👍👍👍
my favorite off the album.
Nice description, I was a teenager for this music, and it's never left me.
Green Earrings. I figure if I mention it 100 times it will make an impact. Home At Last is probably my favorite song off the Aja album.
The Purdy shuffle never sat lower in the saddle.
THE perfect song from THE perfect album.
Always so goooood musical choice, i adore You. 😘
Haitian Divorce, Babylon Sisters, West of Hollywood
YES, YES, and YES!
This is one of those "deserted island" albums.
I'd argue THE deserted "island" album
This is cool .... but one of the most influential bass players of all time died last week.... and you should check out his chops with a reaction to some of his work.... Francis Rocco Prestia was a founding member of Tower Of Power (a Soul Band playing Soul Music for 52 years and counting) .... He died at 69, but the band continues to do great music .... his best work, IMHO, can be captured in "What Is Hip" .... " Only So Much Oil" ..... and "Time Will Tell" .... but that's just me .... Tower Of Power had quite a reputation and a legacy as a horn based band ..... Check them out...
Love the horn section. Usually it is a Trumpet, Trombone, Saxophone.
That syncope in the middle of the song always gets me!!
Great song!
Great song. I love how the bass reacts to that rising brass and how the lead guitar feels like the emotion of that dude tied to the most. Awesome. Your Steely Dan reactions give me fire.
Steely Dans music is incredible in its richness, it’s diverse and wonderfully generous, you just get a huge piece of rich musical pie. What’s not to love.
"That's a hell of an intro" 😂
Right!!!
The instrumentation is amazing on this song. The
🎸🎷 are coming in from Everywhere and at different times in the song.
I'm glad you like Steely Dan!
Great vibes from you...
SD fans are moved by your review!
steely dan is life !
Caves of Altamira has a similar feel to Home at Last - other great tracks Bodhisattva and also King of the World and Babylon Sisters
This song is fire! The horns, what?
I can drive to Steely Dan for miles only thing is I can't close my eyes to listen to that awesome sound. Love them....
Typical SD..drums,keyboards,horns,guitars,vocals...fire!
Steely Dan "Night by Night".
the most gorgeous guitar work ever committed to tape.
suck it and see,for yourself.
At 5:01 it goes into a brief Stevie Wonder vibe
She serves the smooth (retsina) A form of middle east jam or spread!just like this kick ass song!!!
Can't wait for the day I get that notification that says - Scribecash - First time hearing Steely Dan's " GREEN EARRINGS "
I'm a huge fan of this song, especially that chirping,Chicago style guitar riff under it.
In some way and to some measure , we took this band for granted back then, even whilst we marvelled at them. We were spoilt, I guess. There was so much experimentation, vibe, optimism and sophistication back then. We could pick and choose and we thought it would last forever. Sadly that has all vaporised. We are now serfs to AI. Glad you can enjoy some of triumphs of the past, my sweet.
Exactly, we were so,spoiled and never knew.
RIP Walter!
One of my favorite tracks on the “Aja” album
"The girl makes him feel safe and warm..." LOL
I suppose so, but "the girl" is a seductress known as a Siren and is singing her Song to lure him towards the deadly rocks and his death.
She also "pours the smooth retsina", so ya know... temptation.
Such fun watching you discover truly great musical landmarks makes me happy to see young people find the depth of real talent in the world of music pirates that sample the greats and try to proclaim there " genius " a sad cometary to current music . This song is an example of true genius as it's a direct analogy to Homer's odyssey , when sailing past the isle of the Singing sirens homer had his crew tie him to the mast so he could hear ther e song the crew covered there ears as not to be beguiles by there voices and sail the ship onto the rocks sinking and dying in the sea as so many had done, kindest regards young musical explorer.
Go back to the ,"Countdown to Ecstasy" album, much more exciting tha "Aja", try King of The World, Show Biz Kids , Bodhissattva or Razor Boy.
Absolutely, and don't forget Your Gold Teeth from Countdown as well.
You sure looked like you were enjoying yourself with this one. :-) I only found this song a few months ago and I fell in love with it, too.
To me it sounds like a comparison with Homer's Odyssey, where Ulysses is forever traveling, trying to get home -- but he's heard the Sirens' song, and he likes it, and he decides that he'd prefer to stay in play, and to remain with the woman who's enchanted him rather than to go home again - there's a famous poem that personifies Ulysses' choice: czcams.com/video/oSIPOnVzL8I/video.html
Each song is a perfectly produced vignette. Even though the lyrics are sometimes a bit cryptic, you can form a picture from the music!
How about 'Rikki don't lose that number'? Probably the first song I ever heard from Steely Dan. The rest is history :)
Dedicate This Heart - The Doobie Brothers
I see you got my flowers there on the counter......😊
Setting. New York City sunset. Good wine good food and this. Could that get any better.
Give a listen to the track "Josie" on the same Steely Dan album, Aja. I think folks, yourself, will like it.
Try Chain Lightning by these guys, it's a guitar-heavy piece about the attractions of fascism
Really dig your reactions as a musician, understanding the complexities of the songs. One suggestion would be "Babylon Sister" by Steely Dan. That one for sure will Ring your Bell ! Peace
lovely how you enjoy the shit out of the music! SD best ever. Please react to 'Gaslighting Abbie' from their album 'Two Against Nature'!
Yeah they had the recipe......
Babylon Sisters!!!!
With Steely Dan I always get lost in the bass.I'm a bass player. They just always lay down an underlying groove.
Do you play any instruments? Or do you mostly like rockin out on other's music. Good choices!
Won the Aja album by selling magazines. Took it to high school art class and would play it maybe once a week that entire semester while everyone painted. The last day of school, I went to retrieve the album and found it scratched up and destroyed. Go figure.
React to skimdred - nobody
If you already have, then I apologize.
If not, you definitely NEED to listen to TOWER OF POWER.
I 💜 you! Do you watch phil @wingsofpegasus? 😝🍻☕😂
