- Layla Ibrahim Zaqqout, a 12-year-old girl in Rafah, recounts waking up to the sound of her sister screaming as their house collapsed around them while they were sleeping. Layla was trapped under rubble, later rescued and hospitalised, where she learned that her family had all been killed in the Israeli shelling.

My bosses girlfriend and her daughter in the late seventies were refugees from the Six Days war. The daughter was 6 years old when they lost their home. I knew her when she was 16, and she was more mature than anyone else her age in the US and most adults. She had been through more at six than many in their entire lifetime.
It’s crazy cuz the trauma hasn’t hit her fully yet when it does she won’t be able to speak for a long time
