“40 years ago at this moment, the air here was filled with smoke”
Now this moment was almost 40 years ago
I am proud to say, that when I served, Ronald Reagan was my Commander in chief.
same here...
Same here. VF-142/CVW-7/USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, '83-'86.
Same here. Korea & Ft. Lewis. Went to Saudi Arabia for Desert Shield, Desert Storm. Both of my parents were WW2 Navy Vets, Dad served behind Japanese lines on mainland China, Mom was a WAVE. Her second cousin Maurice Britt was awarded the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, a Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, English & Italian awards, after leaving the nfl after Pearl Harbor. Lost his right arm in combat, came back & finished law school, successful businessman, & two term Lieutenant Governor of Arkansas.
Thank you for your service all of you.
Thank you❤
I had the privilege, and honor, of playing"Hail to the Chief" and "Ruffles and Flourishes" for this man.
Yeah sure...
@@Schlomothebest let him cook
Thank you for your service.
A giant among men laying praise upon giant men.
Well said!
Un très grand président et un grand ami de la France.
Merci, Monsieur Reagan ! 🇨🇵🇺🇲
Every June 6th I come back here to listen to the story about those Rangers. I can barely comprehend the bravery of those men!
I was a teenager in the '80's, and could not fully appreciate what a great man Reagan was...nor could I appreciate these WWII vets..the "Greatest Generation", of whom my beloved grandpa was part of..he was a Navy Corpsman in the PTO during the war, and I never knew that until after he passed in 1998 and the family found all of his records and awards and what he had really been apart of during the war...incredible...I sure appreciate them all now! What sad days we are living in our country now...I miss my grandpa so much, but am glad he's not here to see monuments graffittied..same with my Uncle Dan, a U.S. Marine combat veteran who served in Vietnam...these protestors defacing the Vietnam Memorial Wall..!!!! Really? Why?
because vietnam was a stupid war :/
@tylerwhaley4872 Vietnam was a disaster only because of who was leading it. LBJ was a rotten Commander-in-chief and McNamara a fool. Still, defacing the Vietnam Memorial, a remembrance of the men and women of all races, colors, and creeds, was a despicable act of cowardice and hatred. Hatred for all that's good and great about America and our people.
Even though the Vietnam war may have not have been a justified foreign conflict for America to get involved with, the American soldiers who fought and died in the war shouldn’t have been viewed as monsters when they returned home in one piece or in a coffin. They should’ve been welcomed home as heroes as any other soldier as from any other war.
The graphic depiction of the rangers who scaled those cliffs is achingly beautiful. It is beautiful because of the sacrifice that those men made. No greater love. And it's hard not to be moved by it.
No greater love than to lay down your life for a friend.
From what I could find on the Web ,as of a year ago there was only 1 man of all these veterans still alive. God bless these men who landed that day. Thank You
God Bless President Reagan and the men who took the cliffs
tghe greatest generation ought NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
In my country Nigeria I continuously pray for the day we will have our own “Ronald Reagan”
chukwurah udemezue : God hears your prayers!
As an American I pray for the same thing
What Nigeria needs it not one person but an end to government and police corruption. Every Nigerian can play their part in that cause
I might be replying to that person
God bless you and your country 🙏🏻💙
Just watching those men salute Reagan brings tears to my eyes.
For yes he was 1 of the " Best Presidents that there ever was & will be "
I play this video every year on D-Day to remind me of the bravery and heroism of those who fought in World War II, including my father. It is also refreshing to once again observe how a real president conducted himself.
Our country yearns for a leader of his class, bravery and brilliance.
I will have you know that my mother got a letter from Reagan I doubt that you got a letter from Trump. We hadn't had very many good Presidents but Reagan was one of them.
Actor.
@@bobflendorg1064 your father was a coward stop lying
Charles Reese Reagan wrote a letter my great grandparents for 75th wedding anniversary- I’m sure it auropen but it was amazing!
@@charlesreese9301 Reagan is/was great, but I bet that people got letters from Trump that they didn't get from Reagan....And some are old, yes.....but I'm just saying that not every president can send letters to everyone....
Makes me cry to think we have almost lost all of these men. They were such wonderful bunch. I consider myself so lucky to be a child in the 70s and 80's with two grandfathers that served in WWII and two grandmothers that knew what the sacrifice was on the home front. The common experience of sacrifice in war and depression that came prior to the war made that entire generation rock solid. The world they build after all they had gone through... They left us a gift.
Greatest President since Lincoln. Period. RIP President Reagan. You will never be forgotten.
If we are one Country under God, we must endure. There will never be another President Reagan, but we sure need one like him soon. Keep the faith, America.
I couldn't agree with you more. We also could use another Honest And.
"Forty summers have passed since the battle that you fought here. You were young the day you took these cliffs; some of you were hardly more than boys, with the deepest joys of life before you. Yet, you risked everything here. Why? Why did you do it? What impelled you to put aside the instinct for self-preservation and risk your lives to take these cliffs? What inspired all the men of the armies that met here? We look at you, and somehow we know the answer. It was faith and belief; it was loyalty and love." 😢🇺🇸
I feel we have failed you, President Reagan, and the fine souls who were honored this day, 33 years ago when you made that fine speech. But at least, we've not forgotten.
Democrat here. And I could not agree more my friend.
I don't declare a said I pick vote who best fits the job at the time to vote and I say this speech is so true. And we need a leader like Reagan again I'm 37 by the way
Only two days before I (as scheduled) entered Basic Training and started my 24 years in the Air Force.
I may not have been born when he was in office but dang his words are truly deep. Coming from a military family, I truly appreciate listening to this. I'm 22 but I'll continue to listen to him when I need to keep positive that maybe someday we will have another president like this.
God, I miss you and bless you Reagan. From above we need you more than ever.
‘We came not to conquer, but to liberate.’
God, Reagan and the greatest generation! Everything that i respect!
Proudest moment of my NOTHING life at 20. On my way out to work, thinking, my dad would love to watch this with me, and see myself in his eyes. GOD help me please. My eyes hadn't clue at the time!!
I just had to listen to this great speech again today, 35 years later. Sill so appropriate and relevant. Great President and leader. We finally have a geat one again! Never forget what was done at Normandy. I take it very personally. They did it for me!!
One of the greatest Presidential speeches in our proud history. President Reagan spoke for all of America that day. More recently, President Trump cancelled his D-Day trip to Normandy because it was raining. We need to return to true patriotism, to the love of our nation and our laws and our democracy. That is the call of D-Day and what Ronald Reagan spoke to on June 6, 1984.
Trump is a fucking coward
Who in the heck can downvote this speech? Eesh. What a piece of history this is...
The greatest President in my lifetime. Greatest. Ever. RIP
I was there, saw him in person, maybe not this close, but I certainly heard it. Glad I found this video.
Al gansk
I believe James Baker said he thought this speech was Reagan’s best. It is difficult to decide, as their are so many great speeches he gave, but this one is definitely top five I think. Wow!
"The Rangers looked up and saw the enemy soldiers at the edge of the cliff shooting machine guns, and throwing grenades. And the American Rangers began to climb"
Reagan did his bit for freedom as well fighting the cold war. The man had a spine.
He served in Hollywood in WW2 but excelled at playing a soldier
@johntisdale6721 Ronald Reagan, who had extremely poor eyesight, was rated ineligible for combat by the Armed Forces. He was assigned to first to a reserve regiment in Iowa and as a Second Lt. in California. He made few movies during that time, but he served his country by making training films as well as propaganda films to boost morale. The few war movies he made for Hollywood are outstanding.
Every man, woman, and child in the United States did their part.
Hell, even the Italian Mafia stepped up to help defeat the National Socialist Germans!
My grandfather died that day he was a ranger his bravery on those cliffs made me want to be a ranger he dead for my freedom it's my turn to die protecting peace
Let's hope it doesn't come to that.
“No poor bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making other bastards die for their country.”
George S. Patton
Please don't die
My husband just read Douglas Brinkleys book on those Rangers and D-Day. Amazing stories
225 came here after two days of fighting only 90 could still bare arms that's badass
The Rangers took heavy losses at Pointe Du Hoc, We don't know exactly what went on there but some sources state that when they defended the area the German 352nd Division from Omaha came over and gave them hell until they were relieved. Also the 5th and elements of the 2nd also landed at Omaha there the 29th Infantry Division they were attached too lost an entire company that being Able 116th Infantry.
Its Tuesday Feb 2nd 2021 And Yes Pres #RonaldReagan Was a man of Brilliance !
God bless
Never forget
No president could make an address as well as President Reagan.
I wish we had this great man now instead of what we have
Simply stunning.
This is what a leader looks like.
pretty damn amazing speech
and now we have a con man in the Oval Office
joelSanFrancisco joelSanFrancisco q
That’s why they called him the Great Communicator. He had such a gift for expressing what so many others thought or believed in ways we couldn’t always convey them.
Luna Rose, what an amazing speech writer Reagan had back in the day.
Sterling Rock yes amazing writer combined with an amazing speaker, this is Reagan at his best, and I’m not a big fan of some of his politics, but no one can deny he was a great speaker with great writers
God, Reagan, and the greatest generation! Everything that I respect!
Just visited pointe du hoc today and guide mentioned this speech
May God Bless all souls
you see those Rangers snap a salute to their C-in-C. Beautiful.
Perhaps the Greatest of the US Presidents
I see that from the posted dates that many of these comments were done prior to President Trump's address, therefore I will not criticize them, and acknowledge that I absolutely love President Reagan. Having said that, I will share with all that I found President Trump's speech so moving that I balled like a baby. He made it all about the hero Vets, and professed his profound love and respect for them, referring to them as the "Pride of America". IMO, two fantastic leaders who hold our Vets in the highest regard for serving the country that we so love.

Richard Armato Snowflakes are exclusively on the Left.
What a GREAT speech. He is what the Republican Party is missing.
How does this not have millions of hits? A time, not long ago when our leaders knew God... how much we’ve lost.
What the rangers achieved that day lives on in all young men who wear that tan beret with pride and honor
Still the best. And better hair. ❤️🇺🇸
Immeasurable thanks to all who fought and continue to fight to save democracy and freedom for all.
I was not a big fan of Ronald Reagan. But I remember watching this one morning when I was in graduate school. It made me so proud.
Sadly, we all lose track of what we have. You don't know what you have until it's gone.
In loving memory
Thank You, Mr. President. You are greatly missed. President Trump continues in your spirit.
Remarquable speech of President Reagan !
Amazing speech
God bless the United States Army for its sacrifice in creating this great nation. Over 1 million army soldiers have died since the founding of the nation by the United States Army. This is vastly disproportionate in the amount of sacrifice when compared with all the other services of the United States. The highest Honor by far belongs to the United States Army.
My father served in the Army for 20 years. Retired a major. Then taught ROTC in Atlanta then Phoenix. He died in Dec 2011 waiting for our response to those cowardly attacks on 9/11. He earned a bronze star in Korea and a service commendation medal later. He always loved this country and hated communism. I miss him.
The Army has suffered the most casualties, true. But they are also the oldest force and largest, by FAR. You can't exactly blame the Air Force for not having casualties in the Civil War, the Spanish-American War, etc etc. The fact is, ALL branches do their part to defend our country, and there's no such thing as one branch having "more honor" than another. All the branches are subject to being put in harm's way at any time and leave their daily life and family behind to serve their country. They all deserve equal respect.
Okinawa?
Great, great speech. Can you imagine any of the last four presidents having the stomach to make a speech like this?
Reagan was class.
I would love to one day wade into the surf, turn around and see the beach as those brave men saw it. Not knowing if they would live to see another sunrise. God bless all of you and a special thank you to those who gave the last full measure. Knowing full well all gave some, but some gave all.
I was privileged to stand at the waters edge at low tide on Omaha Beach. How any man made it to the shelter of the bluffs is a miracle. That so many men didn't make it is tragic. There are so few left to thank for their courage and determination. When the last one is gone, it is our obligation to remember their sacrifice and pass on to our children and grandchildren the stories of their deeds. We're here because they were there.
Beautiful words and sentiments.
My favorite president in my lifetime.
Call of Duty 2... that score with Reagan's speech is very moving indeed.
I came here because of it!
@@theartofwar1750 me too high five
Every word of this speech is applicable to today. Just replace Soviet Union with North Korea, Iran, and China.
And now Russia
Wonderful speech, my favorite US president in the best decade ever, the 80s
I just watched a document "American Drug War" and Reagan was one of the stars.
Great speech!
14:25 "Why? Why did you do it."
What an amazing speechwriter Reagan had in his service at the WH.
He did most of his own speech writing, read a biography of him.
Sterling Rock Peggy Noonan was the primary speech writer here and she was remarkable. Reagan did not write his own speeches - I’m sure he edited/added as have Bush, Clinton, Bush & Obama.
@@thejobexperience672 Reagan did not just "edit" the speeches. The speechwriters had to learn HIS language, not the other way 'round. Obviously, when a President is making a dozen or more speeches a week, he's got writers, particularly one as active as Reagan. But, he had an enormous body of work to draw upon from having been a public speaker for nigh on 50 years by the time Noonan started working for him. They'd then write the speech they figured Reagan himself would make, THEN he would edit to make it EXACTLY the speech he would make.
Nothing against Ms. Noonan - she is remarkable. But you don't have to insult a Great Man in the process.
D-Day: the day the English-speaking peoples turned the lights back on in Europe.
This was a beautiful speech
👏🏼🏴
Oh how far we have fallen
My God that man could give a speech.
Compare President Reagan to the sheer and utter incompetence in the White House today. Just tragic.
Peggy Noonan. The Ronald Reagan of Presidential speech writers.
Ranger Jim is awesome.
50th Anniversary of D Day, was part of this on HMS Fearless
35 years ago. Think about that. In five years, the time from D-Day to this speech will be the same as from this speech to "today".
This is what a Christian America looks like. We have to pray for the faith of our children because without faith we have no future...
They don't make presidents like Reagan anymore.
God Bless America
Whos hear because of COD2?
I'm ashamed to admit that I'm one of them. God be with ye' Yanks!!
Goodmorning🌄🙇
Damn liberals have almost erased this man from history.

Trickle down economics was the lie that bankrupt the middle class.
The former President said very important recognitions of our great nation America. This is the precious freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of opportunities. Massive heroic Americans who sacrificed their life and death efforts just exchanged our privilege to enjoy our freedoms, entrepreneurship spirit and equality of opportunities in America’s Capitalism systems. The former President Bush 41 was one of them being rescued finally and rest of his crews were all dead. Let’s forgive each other and unite together again by our generosity forgiveness and kindness nature toward each other’s service and mistakes this time and reunite together again by our country America’s own principles to govern afterward together again to cherish what we have for others to dream for it. Very touched speech and miss President Reagan and President Bush 41 always.
Lest we ever forget the sacrifices these men made. Rangers Lead The Way!
For yes he was a smart & Good 👍 President.
Through the gates of hell, as we make our way to heaven! Through the Nazi lines... Primo Victoria!
The last great President.
When the GOP was respected.
Reagan's oratory skills and conversational wit has yet to be matched since.
Messy hair day I see lol. Love president Reagen
True American patriots ❤
he was a patriot i see. a good man
This speach and so many others is why my son's middle name is "Reagan".
I hear these words and am reminded of the words of Michele Obama "All of this over a Damned Flag" Refering to the same U.S. flag that these Army Rangers severed under and the same flag they were wrapped in when carried to their graves.
There’s no proof she said that, in fact a website that teaches lip reading observed that clip and concluded she said “it’s amazing how they fold that flag”.
Well that would be YOUR little secret. There is no web site that came to that conclusion Hey but it sounded good.
@@456swagger Do a google search lol, one of the first results.
Yeah right and Michele wasn't born Michael and she/he doesn't have a penis
You should take your own advice and do a "little research" and maybe you'll find Michele/ Michael's penis.
