One of my absolutely favourite doctor who episodes. Doctor who and ancient Egypt were my special interests so it was perfect for me. I think it’s wonderful!
Especially with hindsight you know they're not going to kill off the main character. If you mean regeneration, well this is midway through his second season. Still younger viewers watching would never have thought about that
i think Pyramids is one of the most Lovecraftian Who's,if not the most Lovecraftian one out of all Who,the shear scale of Sutekh's power,the fact he doesn't know or care what Galifrey's location is until reminded,then as an almost casual aside says he will destroy it at his leisure,and his utter malevolence all portrayed through Gabriel Woolf's voice performance alone,utterly chilling
Sutekh is really is an effective villain, one who I can only imagine would have terrified me as a kid. Both the writing and the performance really have a lot to do with that
Literally had the same journey as you. Was pretty underwhelmed on a first watch, then came to love it for what it is. Terrific atmosphere, great execution, well developed characters and a brilliant villain. I’ve come used to that now with Classic Who. Cause I had it with City of Death. Underwhelmed cause of my own expectations, then loved it on further rewatches.
With the really hyped ones it's easy to build your expectations up too high I think, even Caves of Androzani I wasn't quite sure what all the fuss was about on my first viewing (rewatching now and it is a certified classic)
@@tallskin I'm not totally against the idea, but I also feel that any return appearances would risk lessening his impact. Part of the whole threat of Sutekh is that he's so powerful you only have one chance to stop him and that's it
I would also recommend revenge if the cyber men, tomb of the cyber men, green death and the 3 or 5 docotors to get a taste of which doctor you might like
Can we all agree with the fact that the story is a definite classic, written by Bob Holmes, starring Tom and Lis as The Doc and Sarah and the music by Dudley Simpson and then maybe the people who put all the stories from the first twenty-six seasons of DW on the Sky Vision Box might rethink the plan, (I thought, that's clever when there's 97 episodes still missing), even though some are reconstructions, as The Pyramids of Mars is only part one, makes me wonder if they used the free DVD that was once given out with issues of The Sun newspaper, not from the original copies, or the official DVD or Blu Ray. If we get more love for this story, maybe whoever is in charge might find the other three installments and I can rewatch it.
@@MidnightChimey I can't think why, although it was a popular story according to AMTV when it was repeated, other channels and programmes affected the number of viewers, yet I would like to see how my wife reacts to it.
As someone who struggles to enjoy a lot of classic who, this story and the Daemons got me genuinely enjoying myself. I don't know that I'll ever become a huge classic who fan in the way I have for the modern show, but I really loved those
I did actually reference Pyramids of Mars in my reviews of series 8 as a much better example of how to portray the Doctor as morally ambiguous, so it's relevant

Loved this story. Whilst it wasnt my first clasic who (death to the daleks) it was a very early one!
Death to the Daleks is an interesting one to start with, kind of curious what you thought of that

I don't rate Tomb of the Cybermen that highly but as an intro of what to expect from the 2nd Doctor it works pretty well
