This is becoming more and more rare. These days they throw kids into the construction jobs that can barely hold a hammer and give them very little actual training. To make matters worse when they have a nail gun they can throw two nails a second it's a recipe for disaster. We had a rule that if in a single 2x4 you missed more than three nails with the nail gun you had to go back to the hammer for the rest of the day! It cured the problem in a hurry!

In San Antonio TX.
I agree 100%. Nothing worse than wasting half a box of nails on shiners. I've seen roof decking, and even the walls, be able to almost flex right off the studs when you push on them, because over half the nails wasn't hitting anything. I would say though, if you're using the ZIP system, I would keep about a couple feet of the zip tape, just for going over the holes left behind from pulling the nails, otherwise it defeats the purpose of the zip system, since there's not gonna be any underlayment going down. Roof looks good though. Definitely straight and solid

Do you cross brace the roof in the states or does the plywood sort that?
There is some lateral bracing in the webs of the trusses per engineer manufacture. But as far as a continuous cross brace, no. The sheathing does that duty.
You are what gen z needs to be a real respectable trustworthy man. Quality over quantity. You inspect your work and fix the simplest of mistakes you are what the world needs your father grandfather and plus should be proud and I hope you have a son to pass on your morals to.
When I was a residential building superintendent, if the contractor was lazy with this and we saw a bunch of nails from the inside, gonna need them to come back and fix it because the inspector isn’t passing that to move to the next step.
Right!
New guy shined the whole roof quit and I had to go remove the shiners had me upset that day 😂
I bet
I had an argument with other framers about laying out sheet. The kept telling me it wasn't necessary. I kept telling them it was best to do it especially on the first row. They wouldn't do it and of course it screw things up. Especially when you started decking on the opposite side.
Exactly! It will NOT work out correctly if you don’t layout every sheet & when you look up after it’s decked and see scabs everywhere… because nothing breaks correctly.
@w.k.d.constructionllc it just takes one truss and you have to cut two or three sheets
As a home inspector I agree make sure the nails don’t come through
Always
That zip tape works magic in many situations.
I use it for everything!
Brilliant! Keep up the good work sir.
Thank you kindly!
glad to see u guys are using the roller
Have to Roll the tape!!
Used to work for a guy that missed half of his nails when nailing a floor or roof and he always said, "The Liquid Nail will hold it"! I have his job now lol.
😆
Rare find is a contractor who does this. The attic DOES NOT look like this. You do insanely good work! There’s a lot of, as you say, “LAZY ASS BUILDERS” in Texas.
🤙🏻
Former electrician, you know how many nails ive hit my head on in the attic! Thanks for not being a dick😅
😆
I've spent time in a lot of attics, and a bloody scalp from nails that missed the board was a regular occurrence.
😬
NICE WORK. I always try to remember to nail 1½ down from the edge of my sheathing. In case i have to cut the sheet above. I don't cut those nail head on the sheet below.
🤙🏻
You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I wish all contractors had your work ethic
Wow, thanks
the amount of times i put a nail into my head from lazy workers...
Right ! Good job man !
Thanks!
As a plumbing repiper, the amount of roof nails I smack my head on is ridiculous
😬
Removing shiners is the reason home owners request our crew and don't mind paying more
Exactly!
Got it coach.Coming up there was no choice but to pull your shiners it shows pride in a job well done.
Exactly! 🤙🏻
