I would refrain from Michael Mcdonald era at first. Let them explore the earky material further then work their way up. Then they will have a better understanding and apprection because it's vasrjy different I say suggest 1 song only . Perhaps " Listen to the Music" would be my next choice.

@@jgsrhythm100 Michael McDonald did exceptional tunes with the Doobs. "Real Love," "Open Your Eyes," and "You Never Change" are outstanding. "Another Park, Another Sunday" is a classic Doobs sleeper and "Chinatown," not to be confused with "China Grove," is a Doobies keeper...

"Black Water" by the Doobies is what country music should have become. Smooth, melancholy, and comforting down-home feel. (Modern country is like nails on a chalkboard, IMO)

If you want to see and hear something cool, there's a cover band from Georgia called Foxes and Fossils. It was founded by a gentleman named Tim Purcell, with his daughter as one of the singers. They play small venues, but their musicianship is fantastic. They did a GREAT cover of Black Water and even had the audience doing parts in the catchy mid-chorus. Check it out, you won't be disappointed. They also did the best cover I've heard of Rolling in The Deep and did a very good cover of Suite: Judy Blue Eyes.

One of the best and cohesive bands in the early to late 1970’s. After Tom departed for health and personal reasons Michael McDonald took the lead and changed the style to more rhythm and blues!Much later Tom rejoined the band and I was able to see them live with Chicago at Jones Beach Theater They were still awesome and Tom sounded fantastic!Theater

@@Terri.46 I took no disrespect from it and doubt Michael McDonald would have the either. I do love early Doobie Brothers, but as I said before, it took me a while to get used to the total change in directions that the Doobie Brothers took when Michael McDonald join the band. He brought in some of his experience with steely Dan and some of the other wonderful musicians he played with. Kind of expanded our horizons. Just like the Eagles when some of the members left the band, and Joe Walsh joined.

It's their best known song and, for me, their best tune. A great little rocker, short and sharp, with an easily memorable clean and dirty guitar riff, from start to finish.
Black Water is the Doobies' most interesting song with amazing vocals and harmonies.
P.S. Guys, as far as interesting-sounding town/city names, I currently live in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, just west of Toronto. The origin of the city name Mississauga is Native Canadian. The City of Mississauga, Canada’s sixth largest municipality, is located on the Traditional Territory and Treaty Lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit (River) First Nation. It is most likely that Mississauga is an Ojibwa word meaning ‘river of many mouths’. (Source: City of Mississauga website). Peace out.

My favorite Doobie Brothers song is "Jesus Is Just All Right With Me" Kids didn't just get high on drugs in the 70's! They got high on Jesus too!

The Byrds released a version of that song in 1969. Check it out. It's good, but I like the Doobies' version better.

Thank you to the 502 for The COLDEST gift cards. Don't know if my name getting picked was random or intentional. Doesn't matter.
I'll be selling my Yeti for scrap metal and soon will be stylin' with The COLDEST.

Have to say, this was a new one for me! Enjoyed it, this is what I love, experiencing music I would not have necessarily found myself, thank you!
