I am sick of cutting out character and merging characters. This show has been meh. It very bias towards the green. I mean I heard after Alicent got betrothed to Vizzy Rhaenyra calls her a whore but like they been doing making Rhaenyra less hypocrite to the fan they remove that scene.
I think people whine too much. The scene still made people go wide-eyed or jump in their chair. I would personally have preferred the book version, but this is honestly just an insignificant detail.
Imagine the red wedding episode ended with the Blackfish caught Walder Frey banging one of his 14 year old mistresses. That’s how Blood and Cheese ended with a tonal whiplash Alicent sex scene.

Olly might not existed in the books at all. He didn’t even betray Jon and got hanged as a punishment. Meanwhile, HBO was very comfortable at showing a young boy flopping like a fish as his life was choked away during the execution. Also, a brutality that didn’t exist in the books. So “It’s a child murder and it’s too brutal. That’s why we can’t have emotionally impactful B&C scene.” is a weak argument.
And idk the legality of putting small children through they level of trauma, even in an acting sense. A 4 and 2 year old going through that, even if they aged them up, may not pass. I think the scene would have just been too distressing to put children through. Not necessarily that it was too distressing for the audience. It would have had to age up the children and even then they'd have to problem do a lot of camera trickery and implication to avoid actually putting children through that scene. Olly in GOT was an adult, passed off as a teenager. It's very difficult to pass adults off as toddlers.

They could have filmed the "she wants you dead" bit separately, then film the kids 'reaction' later, but I dunno, a six year old being told to 'act super scared' would have taken me out of it. Game of Thrones season one. Ned Stark is executed by beheading, in one of the most shocking bits of television in the last 20 years, and it's totally bloodless. It's still 10 times more impactful than how they did Blood & Cheese on the show. Also, no Maelor means no Bitterbridge. If you know, you know.
Game of thrones season 1 was superior in every way with a lower budget. They had Ned being beheaded, bran getting thrown from the tower, Arya dancing lessons, bronn saving Tyrion, the mountain cutting the head off his horse, little fingers betrayal. Like the story is stacked
The whole "they cant go too far when killing a kid" argument people are making for B and C doesnt make any sense considering in season 1 alone we saw a child get his eye slashed, rhaenrya give birth to a deformed half dragon still born in a scene that went on far too long anyway and we literally see a dead baby drop out of her onto the floor, a pregnant woman burn herself and her unborn baby alive and a child eaten alive by a dragon but apparently "they cant show a mother making a choice between her 2 sons"

They are just scrapping characters like they have no impact on the plot. First, Daeron, then Maelor, then Nettles. They even showed infant Joffrey, but not Daeron? C'mon man. I wouldn't be surprised if they introduced Daeron just to kill him off immediately afterwards. Also, I don't think Daemon is foolish enough to believe that Blood and Cheese actually stood a chance against Aemond.
They already casted daeron and said they didn’t want to introduce yet another kid that would have to be recasted, same with joffery. Man, Use some basic thinking skills and also realize it’s a fucking adaption, why do so many book fans not understand what an adaption is.
It reminds me of waaaaay back in the day, season 1 of GOT. Jeyne Pool wasn't even a named character. Both George and book-fans where like, uh why? And then we got Sansa and subsequently Little Finger character assassination seasons later instead.

I had expected a laugh track when Healena showed up at her mother's bedroom. Every Easter, my family watches the 1956 The Ten Commandments in the beginning, we see the slaughter of the hewbrew boys. Since they aren't going to show babies being killed in 1956, we see this woman sitting over her son's cradle in a catatonic state as the guard is cleaning the blood from the sword while another is running away from the guards with her son in tow but you know she and her son will be killed. That woman's face is always haunting as it captures the brutality of what the Pharoah is doing and what the movie is going for. Even Prince of Egypt emphasized the cruelty of the scene in gorgeous animation without gore and Moses' reaction to his father's nonchalant view on it. Both those movies are considered family films yet HBO wanted to tone down B&C because they didn't want to showcase violence on GOT because of current year sensibilities/needing to make the Blacks still look better in comparison.
You're right there. I remember The Prince of Egypt demonstrating the horror by showing a soldier holding a baby by the foot over a chasm in a mural and it haunted me for years. No blood or gore, but direct and effective.
I work as a behavior therapist specializing with autistic children can tell you they can have emotions but for many it is difficult to process. One of my patients a few years back was going through her father having a stroke and she cried for her days because of it. That girl was 5 at the time. Heleana's reaction is a bit accurate, but not something I am going to see in the average ASD person.

GoT never denied any of the Lannister’s war crimes. They were being held accountable for all of it. Betrayal of Aerys (which even though was heroic in the hindsight, it’s still a great treason), crippling Bran, Ned’s execution, the murders of Elia and her kids, red wedding, Oberyn’s death, the constant abuses of Sansa and Tyrion, and yet they still managed to make the Lannisters likable. Meanwhile, HOTD just keeps whitewashing (or blackwashing) Team Black because they are “the good guys”.
I think you guys are spot on about the whole reason Halaena ran to Alicent's room is that the showrunners wanted to have that scene of her riding Criston Cole in the first episode, it's like they wrote the whole rest of the episode leading up to that specifically for that scene. It was imperative to establish that just like in GoT, it is a time honored tradition in Westeros that the best looking kingsguard gets to bang the king's mom 👍

I am guessing that part of the reason we did not get a one-to-one adaptation of the 'Blood and Cheese' scene is three things. One: The HBO Higher-ups were afraid that general audiences would be put off by the psychological and physical brutality of the scene. And they would then lose viewership. And in all honesty, it is likely over half the audience are Not superfans of all things 'A Song of Ice and Fire'. Two: If I am not mistaken they are a LOT of laws for children and babies on television or film sets. because of that maybe they could not find a good way of staying with the laws and doing a one-to-one adaptation of the scene. Three: The show writers, do write the show to be more favorable to team black. They want the audiences to favor team black over Team Green. which I find sad because dance in the books was more about showcasing how war kills everyone and the brutality of what people going through because of war.
Yeah I could see higher ups not wanting to risk it too much with this show in ep 1, but I have heard that law thing and am not sure how they couldnt work around it somehow

Agreed, I think the only real issue I can't think of a proper explanation for is no Maelor. Poor choice by the show runners but not wanting to show a child be butchered on screen totally makes sense. There's plenty of room for gratuitous violence in the rest of the season and doing the most grotesque display of it in the first episode of the new season might not be the best for viewer retention of casual fans. Peaking early in the season isn't a good recipe for success either. Doing this for the finale of season 1 probably would've played better

I have a funny feeling Helaena's character is going to be blended with Daeron, and that's why Daeron is missing from the show. That way Helaena will be a more "active" player in the game going forward. I think a girl power transformation might be in her future.

Definitely should’ve been more build up. We didn’t spend enough time with the characters for it to be very emotional. I mean Rickons death is s6 of GOT was more emotional and it didn’t effect the story at all. If we had another episode of the kids with Haleana and Aegon and the rest of the family it would’ve made it a better scene. Then we would better empathize with Aegon’s reaction and Haleana’s.
This just proves to me that the writers are just team black fanboys and have an obvious bias. They just flat put ignore the source material and try to make Rhaenyra and Daemon look like angels where in fact they were monsters. The accident or misunderstandings moving the plot along is so frustrating. Also, why tf do they refuse to show us certain reactions? Cut from Jace learning his brother is dead. Just skip over seeing how Aemond explains Lukes death, or how he even feels about it. Not a quite moment for these characters to reflect on anything. Why is it Rhaenyra just cries and the weirdos online think this is the greatest acting anyone has ever done? If anything, its about time shes done some acting cause shes been a robot until now. I really like the show but these writers are not doing it justice.

Didn't they learn from the mistakes of D&D? Scrapping characters or introduce them right before killing them off (the Tarlys, the golden company, Quathe, etc.) will damage the overall storyline.
There will never be another Game of Thrones, sadly current writers have no balls to go that far, especially when the MAIN character is a woman (God forbid she does something bad).. I don't know if you guys watched some reactions on YT but this never happened during GoT but now EVERY reactor frowns and puts on a face of disgust whenever a Green Character appears on screen plus they sometimes curse at them, like it's mandatory. Team Black fanbase is so toxic it's insane if you looks at their comments on some videos. Ryan Condal basically admitted that Nettles is cut because of reasons (Daemyra), if they don't mention Daeron this season it's safe to assume he's cut too.
The one good thing that wasn't Tom's acting in episode 2, DAERON MENTIONED!!!! (Though I'm worried how they plan on blackballing him like they have any greens not named aegon this season)
I think part of it is that the directors can never capture exactly whatever you imagine from the pages. Books are much more personal. But thats definitely not all of it.
I think you put it perfectly. Each reader imagines the scenes slightly different even tho we are reading the same words. So like you said. It’s much more personal. Although I think the issue is the huge differences between the book and movie. It starts to become a different story with different characters

B&c was barely accurate in the show. They didn’t need to show Jaehaerys being killed but they could’ve had more suspense with Alicent being bound and gagged with Helaena having to choose between her sons and pleading with the assassins to take her life instead. It would’ve been so sinister having one of the assassins say “your mother wants you dead” like they did in the book. This was the one scene they shouldn’t have changed so much.
I keep telling you. These new writers and producers and directors want to put their own spin on it and I believe that they were turned off by what happened in Game of thrones at the Red wedding that they did not want those same shock values. So they decided to water it down

It could be two things. These new Young writers don't believe in the concept of Good and evil that things are grey and maybe we all love the Red wedding version of Game of thrones but that turned them off and they are very sensitive to it so they don't want to implement the same reaction on this show.
What could be the other way around I think they secretly told the investors that they're not going to do the gory stuff like they did in the books and that they are not going to have their red wedding moment.

I think Helaena was so resigned and simply gave them the truthful answer because she'd already predicted this event with her dreams. She mentions, "I'm afraid of the rats" earlier in the episode, which is how Cheese (a rat catcher) manifests himself in her prophetic dreams. She's seen Aemond lose an eye after hearing him say "I will have a dragon!" only for her to reply with, "He'll have to close an eye." in response, so by now, she absolutely believes her own prophetic dreams and likely feels they're a fate that can't be escaped. I think that's why she just decided to get it over with, and why she seemed so empty and hollow. She'd been grieving for her son for days/weeks in advance, knowing this moment would come. It's why she'd been rocking on the floor, huddled under a blanket and looking petrified earlier in the episode.
Shows exclusive to streaming-only platforms like Netflix and Prime can have such violence because they don’t deal with cable and free-to-air TV across the globe. I live in Lagos, Nigeria and this is aired on regular cable tv. The same in the UK and across Europe. Their viewership reach would have dropped, and they would never have gotten the green light in a lot of countries due to the child violence laws. With streaming-only platforms they could have shown it all. So there is a bit of context. At times I think we may judge their decisions too harshly without context since we aren’t in the room, and that’s also okay. It’s all love and passion for the art at the end of the day.

What's funny is that the surface level reader will always originally think Daemon was responsible because he is the one who famously said; "A son for a son, Lucerys will be avenged." But the person that Blood says gave him his orders was "A pale woman with a strange accent". Which means *Mysaria who by this point only takes orders from Rhaenyra, gave the orders.* So; it was *Rhaenyra* who ordered the sick, twisted, depraved and insanely complex murder scheme against an unarmed, dragonless, toddler. But Team Black all the way amirite?
The only excuse I will make with Blood and Cheese not looking for which one was the boy is that they run the risk of choosing wrong, and waking the kid up and that kid could holler and be irate and notify someone of something going on, so they’d then have to kill the other kid anyways
Overall I think the biggest mistake was making Helena actually give them the heir. Like the answer was right there - show that the daughter is awake, have her point to her but they kill the son instead. It would show that Helena truly buys into the Hightower agenda of male primogeniture AND have that devastating choice from the book. Rest of the scene plays out as is and it works. I can’t even say maybe they’re setting up something clever in episode two because they’ve proven from season one that they can’t write well.
They could have make Alicent and Cole have s3x and then have Alicent told Cole to go and guard outside, or just far away from her chamber so people would not suspect they were doing the - (and they just put the scene were Cole talks to Aemond right there to lead the audience to believe Aemond is going to be killed) and then when she calls her maid to order her to bring that tea so she does not get pregnant with Cole, but then Maid is killed and she is tied, they wait there and then Helaena appear with her kids. Alicent would still feel bad because if she didn't send Cole away, he would be right there to help. Anyways let's see what's up for 2x2.
I was hyping up this episode so much to people I know, and for it to fall so flat was a bit embarrassing. It's so disappointing that this is the version of events that most people are going to see.
If I would film it I would have the focus be on Haelena, and that the scene would be from her POV. Also, I wouldn't include Blood & Cheese as a pair we the viewers follow, other than maybe one or two shots of people lurking in the tunnels to give the audience a "What's that?" or "Weird shot, why are we in the tunnels?" - and I would have the preceding scene be of Haelena putting the children to bed as we see blurry in the background how a wall opens up and two figures out of focus enters the room. And here's what I think would be interesting? The focus, still on Haelena, she turns around and the sound sort of drowns out and becomes just blurry noise, but we pick up these phrases "Where's the boy?" and "Tell us or we kill them both." The camera is in a medium closeup on Haelena and we focus on her expression and her experience as this is happening, and in a tracking shot which we never cut away from we get all the way from Blood & Cheese entering the room to Haelena going to her mother's room and the episode ends on her line "They killed the boy" I think it would be interesting if we the Audience experience this scene from Haelenas perspective, but at the same time we leave out all the details and we barely if ever see Blood & Cheese properly in the flesh. They are ghosts in the night, instruments of Daemons vengeance. It also makes them scarier if they are always kept just a bit out of focus when they do enter the cameras field of view.
They knew it wasn't anywhere near as brutal and suspenseful in the books. They watered down the whole plot line because they were too afraid to make Daemon look bad. It's such a spineless move to make😒
I'm hoping the next few episodes are finally done with the miscommunications and half measures and any bets on how many Larys feet thirst scenes we get.
Instead of cutting the scene before the axe hits like you said, have cheese whisper the line to maegor just as the camera cuts to Heleana’s face, axe swing sounds and a splash of blood kisses her cheek. End scene.
This isn’t an excuse for the showrunners, but I think the reason Blood and Cheese was butchered compared to the book is because they think most of the audience watching never actually read the book. To the audience this is all brand new to them. Your version of Blood and Cheese would’ve had much more impact and would’ve gotten a lot of the HOTD fandom talking.

Show: Blood & Cheese is too horrifying. Show: Proceeds to shoot a scene of the Strong boys and Aemond beating each other up at Driftmark. The show is obviously whitewashing the Greens and that goes against Martin’s message of the human heart at conflict with itself.

I think this is an indication that Maelor, and by extension the later incident at bitter bridge, has been cut. Without Maelor, what we got was the best they could do. The outcome is the same, either way.
They somehow managed to make a child being killed BORING. That was my ultimate reaction to it, I was just bored and underwhelmed. Rhaenyra crying over a fish net was more emotional than B&C.
I just wish they weren't fucking Daemon's character over with the skitzo season, he is the most badass character in the story (imo) and they have such a great actor for him and yet leave him to waste away doing nothing for 90% of season 2 is just pain, Fuck team black and team green, I'm team blood wyrm

I think people meant that jaehaerys is a toddler (looks 2-3), not a 10 year old kid.
And idk the legality of putting small children through they level of trauma, even in an acting sense. A 4 and 2 year old going through that, even if they aged them up, may not pass. I think the scene would have just been too distressing to put children through. Not necessarily that it was too distressing for the audience. It would have had to age up the children and even then they'd have to problem do a lot of camera trickery and implication to avoid actually putting children through that scene. Olly in GOT was an adult, passed off as a teenager. It's very difficult to pass adults off as toddlers.

They are just scrapping characters like they have no impact on the plot. First, Daeron, then Maelor, then Nettles. They even showed infant Joffrey, but not Daeron? C'mon man. I had expected a laugh track when Healena showed up at her mother's bedroom.
Every Easter, my family watches the 1956 The Ten Commandments in the beginning, we see the slaughter of the hewbrew boys. Since they aren't going to show babies being killed in 1956, we see this woman sitting over her son's cradle in a catatonic state as the guard is cleaning the blood from the sword while another is running away from the guards with her son in tow but you know she and her son will be killed. That woman's face is always haunting as it captures the brutality of what the Pharoah is doing and what the movie is going for. Even Prince of Egypt emphasized the cruelty of the scene in gorgeous animation without gore and Moses' reaction to his father's nonchalant view on it. Both those movies are considered family films yet HBO wanted to tone down B&C because they didn't want to showcase violence on GOT because of current year sensibilities/needing to make the Blacks still look better in comparison.
Yeah those are great examples on how HBO could and should have done this. They didn't need to show it but just don't change it.

I work as a behavior therapist specializing with autistic children can tell you they can have emotions but for many it is difficult to process. One of my patients a few years back was going through her father having a stroke and she cried for her days because of it. That girl was 5 at the time. Heleana's reaction is a bit accurate, but not something I am going to see in the average ASD person.

GoT never denied any of the Lannister’s war crimes. They were being held accountable for all of it. Betrayal of Aerys (which even though was heroic in the hindsight, it’s still a great treason), crippling Bran, Ned’s execution, the murders of Elia and her kids, red wedding, Oberyn’s death, the constant abuses of Sansa and Tyrion, and yet they still managed to make the Lannisters likable.
Meanwhile, HOTD just keeps whitewashing (or blackwashing) Team Black because they are “the good guys”.
I think you guys are spot on about the whole reason Halaena ran to Alicent's room is that the showrunners wanted to have that scene of her riding Criston Cole in the first episode, it's like they wrote the whole rest of the episode leading up to that specifically for that scene. It was imperative to establish that just like in GoT, it is a time honored tradition in Westeros that the best looking kingsguard gets to bang the king's mom 👍

I am guessing that part of the reason we did not get a one-to-one adaptation of the 'Blood and Cheese' scene is three things.
One: The HBO Higher-ups were afraid that general audiences would be put off by the psychological and physical brutality of the scene. And they would then lose viewership. And in all honesty, it is likely over half the audience are Not superfans of all things 'A Song of Ice and Fire'.
Two: If I am not mistaken they are a LOT of laws for children and babies on television or film sets. because of that maybe they could not find a good way of staying with the laws and doing a one-to-one adaptation of the scene.
Three: The show writers, do write the show to be more favorable to team black. They want the audiences to favor team black over Team Green. which I find sad because dance in the books was more about showcasing how war kills everyone and the brutality of what people going through because of war.
Yeah I could see higher ups not wanting to risk it too much with this show in ep 1, but I have heard that law thing and am not sure how they couldnt work around it somehow

Agreed, I think the only real issue I can't think of a proper explanation for is no Maelor. Poor choice by the show runners but not wanting to show a child be butchered on screen totally makes sense. There's plenty of room for gratuitous violence in the rest of the season and doing the most grotesque display of it in the first episode of the new season might not be the best for viewer retention of casual fans. Peaking early in the season isn't a good recipe for success either. Doing this for the finale of season 1 probably would've played better

Definitely should’ve been more build up. We didn’t spend enough time with the characters for it to be very emotional. I mean Rickons death is s6 of GOT was more emotional and it didn’t effect the story at all. If we had another episode of the kids with Haleana and Aegon and the rest of the family it would’ve made it a better scene. Then we would better empathize with Aegon’s reaction and Haleana’s.

The accident or misunderstandings moving the plot along is so frustrating. Also, why tf do they refuse to show us certain reactions? Cut from Jace learning his brother is dead. Just skip over seeing how Aemond explains Lukes death, or how he even feels about it. Not a quite moment for these characters to reflect on anything.

Didn't they learn from the mistakes of D&D? Scrapping characters or introduce them right before killing them off (the Tarlys, the golden company, Quathe, etc.) will damage the overall storyline.
There will never be another Game of Thrones, sadly current writers have no balls to go that far, especially when the MAIN character is a woman (God forbid she does something bad).. I don't know if you guys watched some reactions on YT but this never happened during GoT but now EVERY reactor frowns and puts on a face of disgust whenever a Green Character appears on screen plus they sometimes curse at them, like it's mandatory. Team Black fanbase is so toxic it's insane if you looks at their comments on some videos. Ryan Condal basically admitted that Nettles is cut because of reasons (Daemyra), if they don't mention Daeron this season it's safe to assume he's cut too.

I think part of it is that the directors can never capture exactly whatever you imagine from the pages. Books are much more personal. But thats definitely not all of it.
I think you put it perfectly. Each reader imagines the scenes slightly different even tho we are reading the same words. So like you said. It’s much more personal. Although I think the issue is the huge differences between the book and movie. It starts to become a different story with different characters

the fact that Condal adpated this plot point in such a manner is all you need to know going forward with the show; it's the pivotal event in the story that makes Aegon actually get serious about things
B&c was barely accurate in the show. They didn’t need to show Jaehaerys being killed but they could’ve had more suspense with Alicent being bound and gagged with Helaena having to choose between her sons and pleading with the assassins to take her life instead. It would’ve been so sinister having one of the assassins say “your mother wants you dead” like they did in the book. This was the one scene they shouldn’t have changed so much.
I keep telling you. These new writers and producers and directors want to put their own spin on it and I believe that they were turned off by what happened in Game of thrones at the Red wedding that they did not want those same shock values. So they decided to water it down

The writers made Blood and Cheese seem like Shrek and Donkey instead of two psychopaths forcing a mother to choose between her children.
It could be two things. These new Young writers don't believe in the concept of Good and evil that things are grey and maybe we all love the Red wedding version of Game of thrones but that turned them off and they are very sensitive to it so they don't want to implement the same reaction on this show.

I think Helaena was so resigned and simply gave them the truthful answer because she'd already predicted this event with her dreams. She mentions, "I'm afraid of the rats" earlier in the episode, which is how Cheese (a rat catcher) manifests himself in her prophetic dreams. She's seen Aemond lose an eye after hearing him say "I will have a dragon!" only for her to reply with, "He'll have to close an eye." in response, so by now, she absolutely believes her own prophetic dreams and likely feels they're a fate that can't be escaped. I think that's why she just decided to get it over with, and why she seemed so empty and hollow. She'd been grieving for her son for days/weeks in advance, knowing this moment would come. It's why she'd been rocking on the floor, huddled under a blanket and looking petrified earlier in the episode.
Shows exclusive to streaming-only platforms like Netflix and Prime can have such violence because they don’t deal with cable and free-to-air TV across the globe. I live in Lagos, Nigeria and this is aired on regular cable tv. The same in the UK and across Europe. Their viewership reach would have dropped, and they would never have gotten the green light in a lot of countries due to the child violence laws. With streaming-only platforms they could have shown it all. So there is a bit of context. At times I think we may judge their decisions too harshly without context since we aren’t in the room, and that’s also okay. It’s all love and passion for the art at the end of the day.

What's funny is that the surface level reader will always originally think Daemon was responsible because he is the one who famously said; "A son for a son, Lucerys will be avenged."
But the person that Blood says gave him his orders was "A pale woman with a strange accent". Which means *Mysaria who by this point only takes orders from Rhaenyra, gave the orders.*
So; it was *Rhaenyra* who ordered the sick, twisted, depraved and insanely complex murder scheme against an unarmed, dragonless, toddler. But Team Black all the way amirite?
The only excuse I will make with Blood and Cheese not looking for which one was the boy is that they run the risk of choosing wrong, and waking the kid up and that kid could holler and be irate and notify someone of something going on, so they’d then have to kill the other kid anyways
Overall I think the biggest mistake was making Helena actually give them the heir. Like the answer was right there - show that the daughter is awake, have her point to her but they kill the son instead. It would show that Helena truly buys into the Hightower agenda of male primogeniture AND have that devastating choice from the book. Rest of the scene plays out as is and it works.
I can’t even say maybe they’re setting up something clever in episode two because they’ve proven from season one that they can’t write well.
I enjoy HoTD for what it is - A watered-down version of F&B that only really improved on Aemond and Viserys.
I like that Viserys is better but making everything into misunderstandings is getting annoying

They could have make Alicent and Cole have s3x and then have Alicent told Cole to go and guard outside, or just far away from her chamber so people would not suspect they were doing the - (and they just put the scene were Cole talks to Aemond right there to lead the audience to believe Aemond is going to be killed)
and then when she calls her maid to order her to bring that tea so she does not get pregnant with Cole, but then Maid is killed and she is tied, they wait there and then Helaena appear with her kids. Alicent would still feel bad because if she didn't send Cole away, he would be right there to help.
Anyways let's see what's up for 2x2.

I was hyping up this episode so much to people I know, and for it to fall so flat was a bit embarrassing. It's so disappointing that this is the version of events that most people are going to see.
If I would film it I would have the focus be on Haelena, and that the scene would be from her POV. Also, I wouldn't include Blood & Cheese as a pair we the viewers follow, other than maybe one or two shots of people lurking in the tunnels to give the audience a "What's that?" or "Weird shot, why are we in the tunnels?" - and I would have the preceding scene be of Haelena putting the children to bed as we see blurry in the background how a wall opens up and two figures out of focus enters the room. And here's what I think would be interesting? The focus, still on Haelena, she turns around and the sound sort of drowns out and becomes just blurry noise, but we pick up these phrases "Where's the boy?" and "Tell us or we kill them both." The camera is in a medium closeup on Haelena and we focus on her expression and her experience as this is happening, and in a tracking shot which we never cut away from we get all the way from Blood & Cheese entering the room to Haelena going to her mother's room and the episode ends on her line "They killed the boy"
I think it would be interesting if we the Audience experience this scene from Haelenas perspective, but at the same time we leave out all the details and we barely if ever see Blood & Cheese properly in the flesh. They are ghosts in the night, instruments of Daemons vengeance. It also makes them scarier if they are always kept just a bit out of focus when they do enter the cameras field of view.
They knew it wasn't anywhere near as brutal and suspenseful in the books. They watered down the whole plot line because they were too afraid to make Daemon look bad. It's such a spineless move to make😒
I'm hoping the next few episodes are finally done with the miscommunications and half measures and any bets on how many Larys feet thirst scenes we get.
Instead of cutting the scene before the axe hits like you said, have cheese whisper the line to maegor just as the camera cuts to Heleana’s face, axe swing sounds and a splash of blood kisses her cheek. End scene.
Perfect. And so simple with nothing being shown.
This isn’t an excuse for the showrunners, but I think the reason Blood and Cheese was butchered compared to the book is because they think most of the audience watching never actually read the book. To the audience this is all brand new to them. Your version of Blood and Cheese would’ve had much more impact and would’ve gotten a lot of the HOTD fandom talking.
It was random it was lame and underwhelming.
Such a shame.
They have the source material to work with.

The directors of this show did not want to implement the same shock value as they did in Game of thrones when it came to the Red wedding because they were turned off by the gore. Also I do believe that these directors and writers don't truly believe in the concept or the reality of Good and evil because everything has to be Gray and with a motivational why these two did it. In the 21st century entertainment today is suck ass and not enjoyable anymore.

They should have just kept in the Jahaerys and Maelor (I think?) decision with Haleana as to me that was the darkest part of blood and cheese. Killing a child in any capacity isn’t exactly gonna be cheery but forcing a mother to make that choice only to do the opposite and telling the living kid “yo your mom wants you dead” is the kind of evil shit I want in my show. Honestly the arc with the dog was the best addition. Abused but loyal to cheese till the bitter end

HotD is mediocre at best. It's not gripping at all. S2E2 when they caught blood I thought he's in for world of hurt.. but just gets bonked on the head. Literally don't give af about a single character.
They washed Rhaenyra and Alicent to be the good girlboss and all the worst actions are by Daemon, Otto and Cole

The show is obviously whitewashing the Greens and that goes against Martin’s message of the human heart at conflict with itself.

How to fix the scene :
New Scene with Heleana crying before B and C so her reaction has more sense because she already see all before the event with his powers

Even though she may allegedly have the all sin all of those can be just dreams hers and she can easily ignore them
I think this is an indication that Maelor, and by extension the later incident at bitter bridge, has been cut. Without Maelor, what we got was the best they could do. The outcome is the same, either way.
They somehow managed to make a child being killed BORING. That was my ultimate reaction to it, I was just bored and underwhelmed. Rhaenyra crying over a fish net was more emotional than B&C.
They supposed to have been skulking around in hidden passages. Instead they stroll right through the damn throne room😅😅
