  • A Belgian Shepherd is quite an intense dog. Even the show line version and the lesser drive version of the Groenendael line is still a lifestyle changer.
Discover what it’s like to own a Belgian Shepherd! Explore what life is like with Jack Flash, a black shepherd variety also called a Groenendael or Belgian sheepdog.
    Worldwide, they are known as:
    1. English: Belgian Sheepdog or Belgian Shepherd variety Groenendael
    2. French: Chien de Berger Belge
    3. Dutch: Belgische Herdershond
    4. German: Belgischer Schäferhund
    5. Spanish: Pastor Belga
    6. Italian: Pastore Belga
    7. Belgian: Groenendaeler
From the time we adopted him as a teenage pup, Jack Flash has been a wonderful dog. We share all the things we have discovered about the breed since we adopted him. We train him using completely force-free methods. 🐾 This is also our first dog.
Think you want a Belgian Shepherd? Watch what we have gone through and see if it’s a good match for you too! 🐕‍🦺 Warning: They do love their exercise. If you don’t exercise, I advise do NOT get this breed. Having a large yard does not constitute as exercise as these dogs will not exercise themselves.

    - Grooming tips
    - The small funny things we didn’t know about the breed
    - How to use positive reinforcement and force-free techniques
    - Other Tips
There are 4 varieties of Belgian shepherds, The 4 varieties are the very popular Belgian Malinois, Tervuren, Groenendael and Laekenois. Athletically they are all similar, but vary in coat, temperament and drive, and also between working and show lines.
This is not a strict dog training channel. It’s more a “Adventures of Jack” channel, but it does include training elements that I learn and teach along the way. I am not a professional dog trainer.
We try and release multiple shorts per week for entertainment and education. In turn help us grow by subscribing. If you have any ideas/comments on what you want to see with my Belgian Shepherd, leave a comment and I will try and create it.
This channel is solely for the purpose of trying to raise money for my dogs Cryptorchidism (his testicles did not drop) so he needs a procedure to have his testicles removed internally which is very expensive here. Apparently, they can become cancerous if not removed.
    Love your 🐕‍🦺

Aiden and Lily do the same thing! 😆 They make sure they never miss a meal. Or a ball game, or anything. But I don't know if all Belgian Shepherds are "assertive" (pushy? impatient?) like this. Our 1st, Junior, wasn't pushy at all. I'm curious about what others have to say. ♥️🐺

Mine is definitely a pushy boy 😄 not so much about food but definitely an hour before our lunchtime and after-work walk/ play he'll start nudging me and bringing me balls and toys!

Has he ever had issues with the stairs? Fear?

The first day we brought him home, yes he was very unsure of the stairs. Within a few days he was running up and down like nothing.

@@belgian_groenendael Mine too, when he was 2 months old, but then later, when he was like over 1 year old, we don't know why he started being scared, it's taken me a lot of work with him and food to get over it, and he's still a bit unsure 😞

Yes, we have. Especially to go down. I didn’t know that it is a problem of the breed.

Jack seems to have no problem whatsoever with stairs. In fact I've been teaching him the "slow" command as he runs way too fast down the stairs to be safe at times, especially when its morning walk time.
This might help, but once a week I walk him up a double flight of stairs that goes over a train crossing, ao that is quite a noisy one. Maybe that helped him at stairs at home.

Hey, how much chicken does he eat per day? Are you feeding him only chicken wings? Does he get something else to eat besides chicken? Thanks 🙏🏼

Not always chicken. I mix it up every 4 days or so until the bag is empty. Sometimes it's chicken frame mince, or lamb leg bones or fish or turkey mince for example. Mostly he eats beef and lamb. His absolute fav is lambs heart. He gets one of those every single day.

so... Please don't post with titles like this. you've very clearly taught your dog to interact with you via nagging and making demands because you think it's cute and respond positively to it. this is not a breed trait, it's a learned behavior directly in response to your reactions. your title makes it sound like ALL Groenendaels are irritating and demanding. plz don't.

So your dogs are not excited about eating or exercising? I like to learn to train Jack better, but usually when I get criticism, it is never backed up by examples or videos or the person explaining the right way to do things. Empty criticisms are not useful for anyone including myself.
