yo, I know you got comments below complaining about how long you talked about some cards but personally? I like to hear the depth of reasoning and train of thought on the what and why to certain choices. So I digged it.
Quick though that I just had how about good goblin housekeeping to shuffle back the cards like extra airbellum/descendant and try to draw better ones? Also since we play double hole and double fiendish wouldn't it be better to have prison instead of bottomless to react in case we loose the roll?
Draw traps are ok but you want to fight for board with this deck and they don’t do that . Upstarts are fine in this deck but not the more combo version I just don’t know what I’d take out
U should only play upstart goblins in decks that do not want to play fair/back n forth interaction/real yugioh. What i mean by this is, something like herald of perfection. They bust out their omni negate boss monster and they win(unless the opp is playing a deck an archtype counter trap). Another example is windup handloop. Combo goes thru, opponents hand is gone. And ofc an extremely obvious combo example are ftk decks like exodia. These decks turn the game(yugioh) into something else entirely. Almost like the paradox brothers when they made yugi+joey play their maze game instead actual yugioh rules. When u play upstart goblin its usually becuz u desperately want to draw into something specific, a combo that is very impactful(aka u win on the spot or gain massive card advantage to the point where u probably win unless u misplay or the opponent also drew very well) If your playing a conventional beatdown deck(heros/blackwings/gladiator beast/x sabers) aka summon a lvl 4 big beatstick then set traps pass turn. U dont really want upstart goblin becuz you r playing a real/fair yugioh deck, u want to interact with the opp, u want to trade resources with the opp(your trap’s interrupting the opponent’s monsters) and it will take several turns to win(attack directly, pass turn, attack directly pass turn, etc) that 1000 LP that upstart goblin bestows upon the opponent will matter. And your not even drawing anything particular thats gonna change something drastically. U upstart into a beatstick? Or traps? Thats minimal impact, not worth the cost of 1000 LP.
Some other decks that want to play upstart goblins are pendulums and sky strikers, some pendulum scales get spell counters every time a spell is used so obviously they benefit from upstart goblin. Sky striker spells get extra effects if they have 3 or more spells in grave so obviously they should probably play upstart goblin. Any deck that plays summoner monk obviously should play upstart goblin. Dragon decks should play upstart goblin cuz if they draw future fusion they get massive card advantage and they probably win. Also they can easily deal 11,000 damage due to the multiple redmd reviving big dragons from grave so the cost of upstart goblin giving opp 1000 LP doesnt matter in this deck. Six samurai should play upstart goblin cuz if they draw gateway they win. Also in modern yugioh they can FTK with infinite burn damage so upstart goblin giving the opponent 1000 LP absolutely doesnt matter. Six samurai would still play upstart even if it gave the opponent 5000 LP.
I’ve played x sabers in tengu as I love the deck and it’s fun but it’s just not as good as the other decks out there. If you’re trying to win, you’re better off picking a better deck. If you wanna pop off and use cool cards and get fun wins, it’s a sweet choice, but as is the case with every yugioh format, you’ll have to accept that you’ll more often than not take losses to decks better than yours

Literally last match I played with x sabers I was so salty cuz he opened Maxx c every single game and I haven’t touched the deck since 😂 there’s also the issue that the deck can’t really make use of tour guide, which is just such a good normal summon that format

Good point, the main issue is the deck space. Book can do what D prison kind of does and it acts as a +1 with Fulhelm.

What are you thoughts on x-saber in tengu plant format? What variant do you think is the most competive against top meta decks like plants and agents?
