      Actually, Alex used ONLY reverb on the one-take. You can hear it during his warm-up where he gargles room-temp water. He's on record that the reverb and the delay (on the recording) are just to make the sound a little wider, and the pan they put on his gutturals is so the guitar and drums aren't stepping on his vocals. He's very smart and knows a good bit about how they do stuff.

    10:50 The guy from Lorna Shore, Will Ramos, did a reaction and analysis of this song on his channel (The Will Ramos) that I'd highly recommend you check out if you wanna learn how Alex does this stuff. He explained that the technique used in this part is kinda like rolling your Rs, while also doing the growl stuff. Of course, he does a much better job of explaining, but that's the gist of it.

    • @AdeptusCaeiusIII
      @AdeptusCaeiusIII Před 4 měsíci +4

      Alex also later stated on Kardavox (I think) that it's a back-of-the-throat 'Russian' R that he's doing, and he relaxes the roll halfway into the growl so it goes 'down'. It's how you get that DIRTY chest guttural. I've been practicing to try and figure it out and gotten it ONCE, but it's VERY difficult if you can't do a roll easily (which I suck at).

    Actually the double bass pedals have one per foot and when you press down on it only hits it one single time per kick pedal. He uses this heel toe rocker technique that he hits down with heel first and then goes for second hit with his toe.

    • @gamedevbrownbus2871
      @gamedevbrownbus2871 Před 4 měsíci +1

      Also, the low sounding pitch is usually done with overtones, the way you position the tongue and jaw are vital for a good demonic sounding guttural scream

      @@gamedevbrownbus2871 intrestingly enough, you use the same posture as you would for an operatic tone. to get a tone similar to alex terrible, you just do a gutteral scream operaticly, plus moving your tongue back for the lowest notes.

    • @AdeptusCaeiusIII
      @AdeptusCaeiusIII Před 4 měsíci +5

      If I'm remembering correctly, Alex said it's a 'Russian R', and he does it in the throat, which is the other way you can roll an 'r'. Just relaxes the roll and lets it ride down into his chest for the guttural. I'd say you're 90% right. Just got the position of the roll wrong. That gator growl is his signature growl. There are videos comparing side by side a real gator and Alex Terrible and the only difference is: the human is doing it better lol.
    This band sounds that awesome because their precise cohesiveness and most of all, for the instrumental arrangements don't overlap or outshine the vocals and vice versa.
    Often the lyrics are in Russian and English in the same song.
    If you want to see the Gator Man's one take vocal performance for Viking, there's a video on his channel. You won't be disappointed in the slightest.
    One of the most anticipated moments at their concerts, is when Alex growls the breakdowns without a mic. Again, a ton of videos on YT shows that and it's absolutely amazing how that dude can be heard across the venue.
    Glad you discovered these Russian chads. If I could recommend any of their songs, I'd say: all of them.
    Side note. You'd be amazed by this: he's a self taught death core vocalist. It took him 12+ years to perfect his craft and I could say the intensive gym and boxing training also helped.

    As for the drums: "double bass" means that you either have two bass drums with one kick each or one drum with two kicks. One for each foot. So every hit this drummer does to the base is done with a move of his left or right foot. Might want to check out one of the ElEsteparioSiberiano drum videos if you're interested in how it works.

    the best way I can describe the gutteral to you as a part time for fun vocalist, is that its like making a dog bark. if you breath out like you are trying to fog a window to clean it, add some constriction and distortion with the throat and tongue shapes to alter the pitches between low and mid low

    Great reaction! Love seeing people's first experience with deathcore lol. While I'm not sure Alex has specifically talked about how he does those gator vocals at 10:50, general consensus of what I've seen and have personally speculated is that he is rolling his tongue similarly to rolling your r's while growling. You're also in luck with you wanting to hear his clean singing since he recently uploaded a vocal cover of Cemetery Gates by Pantera. Also as a deathcore fan I'm obliged to mention that you should check out Will Ramos from Lorna Shore, especially his one take vocal playthroughs that he uploads. @PeterBarber Part growling, part throat singing while having an already deep voice. I'm no where near as good as him, but I can do similar. Growling with an open vocal tract. There is a difference between a throat growl and a lung growl.
    Also, he did a one take on camera, just him, he really does sound like that. There's also video of him not even needing a mic and still being heard. Very powerful.
    Also, Type O Negative's vocalist is baritone/bass. You might want to check them out.

    A lot of people can produce a deep guttural sound like that. The difference is the volume at which he does it. Thats incredibly difficult and takes a lot of training

    He just did a cover of Pantera's "Cemetery Gates" on his personal channel, and you can hear the Lemmy from Motorhead qualities. Would definitely recommend!

    I loved this reaction. As a metalhead, it's always super cool to see people outside of the metal scene react and give their takes on the stuff I listen to, and you being an opera singer made it super cool to listen to you trying to figure out how Alex does his insane lows.
    I'll also suggest, as many others have, that you check out at least Pain Remains I by Lorna Shore, but the entire Pain Remains trilogy is amazing.
    Also, on the topic of "how does he do that" or like, "what's going on in his throat," The Charismatic Voice has a video on her channel putting a camera down the throat of Will Ramos, another big name in the deathcore scene right now. Super cool video to see what's possibly happening with the false folds and stuff during these crazy harsh vocals.

    @18.02 The 'roar' bit as you call it. Keep in mind that's a layered vocal, that's not a single take one so he would have layered a low growl with a higher sort of fry scream one and blended the two layers together in production to make that sound of vocal much thicker and daemon-like if you know what I mean. By the way as you mentioned that you wanted to listen to amore of a single-take version of his vocal just so that you can his the quality of his voice without effects and there is a video of Alex doing a One-Take vocal play through of this song on his CZcams channel. Look him up. Also, this song isn't sung entirely in Russian but part in Russian and part in English

    The alligator growl thing he does is insane, one creator said he did this by rolling his R like they do with speaking spanish. This could explain what he is doing. But it could be wrong.

    As others have said, as far as a “deathcore ballad” the band Lorna Shore has a song that is in 3 parts called Pain Remains. The trilogy is imo a masterpiece, and if you had fun checking out Alex, you would love Lorna Shore’s vocalist Will Ramos as well. He has amazing control over his voice and growls as well. Someone else recommended that if you check out the Pain Remains Trilogy that you look for the video that has all 3 parts put into one video which also has subtitles at the bottom so you can understand what Will is saying, (I also recommend that version) Will also does one take performances on his on channel of his songs along with him covering Sleep Token. Alex has one take performances and covers too if you’re interested. I really enjoyed this video though, excellent job!

    I grew up singing opera since I was four I started training, when I was sixteen I wanted to learn how to death core harsh vocals because there were like no females doing it in my town..there's actually way more in common than most would think, like the pressure to be prefect in every note. If alex hit a harsh wrong, you would notice. I like to think of it as inverted Opera, and you will often find a lot of death core metal vocalist have some background in opera 😂❤❤

    The pieces you are missing are 1st rolling a r with false folds for the alligator sound and the roar is due to the form of the mouth and tongue position

Well he posted a video of him doing a one take vocal performance of this song in his room and you also said you wanted a video of him just singing with no grit. Well he also posted a video of him doing a cover of cemetery gates by Pantera where he signs like the whole song👍

  • @thatguy_5240
    @thatguy_5240 Před 4 měsíci

    He has a one take of this song on his channel just sitting at his desk. In that video, I think he only has delay and reverb on his mic. To your point of his clean singing, their song Baba Yaga has some clean singing in the chorus, and its very rock-tenor, surprisingly, because his speaking voice is pretty low.
    I also wanted to point out that double kicks, in this style, do not hit twice per foot stroke. there are two pedals that control two beaters, so one foot controls one pedal, each foot stroke is one hit on the kick. So its even more impressive than you think lol. He uses a heel/toe technique that lets him get two hits consecutively on the same pedal, but he still has to hit the pedal twice to get two rapid hits.
