Paul Rodgers is a really underrated singer. Word says he was one of Freddie Mercury's favourites... That's why the project Queen + Paul Rodgers came to fruition, you can check: "C-Lebrity", "We Believe", "Say It's Not True" or their cover of "Runaway"... Apart from that, you can hear Paul along a bunch of other megasupermusicians (members of Iron Maiden, Deep Purple and Rush included) in the Rock Aid Armenia (a charity supergroup) rendition of "Smoke On The Water"!
Yesir!!!!! Paul rodgers, one of the best vocalists of our time! As a matter of fact, I'll go you one more. Paul's voice is so good, It's like an instrument in itself!
This song wasn't originally released as a single. It picked up popularity later from FM stations by request and as time went by and Bad Co.'s popularity rose, stations cutting back on royalty pay by essentially "starting over" at new release level to pay out cheaper royalties than the climbing plateau of playing a hit song by a popular band - use requests, DJ favs from albums or B sides of 45s. Big Example: Led Zeppelin. Think of every song you've ever heard on the radio by them and then check the singles released by the band.
Great group! Incredible musicians. Should be in HOF. They have dozens. Ore classics . “Honey Child” , “Sweet Lil Sister” , “Burnin Sky” among others. You should also check out Paul and Simon (drummer) original group Free. Especially “Wishing Well” and “Little Bit of Love” Take care Jamel I almost Forgot “ Deal with the Preacher” until I saw someone mention below so I will second that recommendation. It’s actually one of my favorites and really excellent lead jam by Mick Ralphs somewhat similar to “feel like making love” only no soft part
This song got a lot of airplay when the album came out and is considered a hit and usually played live. This is my favorite Bad Company songs and one of my all time favorites overall. When I saw them live in 1976 for the first time, they had just performed the acoustic song Seagull and then a short drum solo and all the lights were down and suddenly the lights burst back on as guitarist rips into those opening riffs. Amazing. It's one of the most memorable moments of my concert going life and I've been to a lot of concerts including some greats (Led Zeppelin, Queen, Jethro Tull, Yes, Paul McCartney, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Rainbow, Judas Priest, AC/DC (Bon Scott era), UFO, The Allman Brothers, ZZ Top and many more).
Paul Rodgers with his golden pipes, Boz with his solid bass, Simon Kirke laying down the beat with a cowbell , and Mick Ralphs controlled wailing guitar... how could they do anything but rock steady?
Bad Company had some amazing Ballads in the years Brian Howe sang for them (R.I.P. Covid) His songs included "Holy Water", "Boys Cry Tough" "One Night" "No Smoke without a fire" "This could be the one" "How about That" and my very favorite "If You Needed Somebody"
Bad Company was a great band that had more than three million views 25 years before the internet existed. Nice to hear them again - for the 3 millionth time.
Paul Rodgers, lead singer(one of rock's great vocalists) and Jimmy Page formed a super group for an album or 2, worth a listen. called 'the Firm' most successful song called "Radioactive"
Teresa, totally agree, the finest rock/ blues frontman ever. Have you heard "Louisiana Blues ", "Wild Fire Woman", "Whisky Bottle" , all fantastic numbers from Bad Co.
Yes, this was a deep cut off their album. One of my favorite Bad Company tunes, it didn’t get the recognition it deserved! Thank you, another great reaction
We were always about the Guitar jams and how long till the neighbors came and pounded on the door shouting it's too loud... Think... our NEVER FORGOTTEN Jimi Hendrix.

Paul Rodgers is everyone's dream frontman. He does it all, sings with soul, grunts when needed, and can rock it with the best of them. He is without a doubt one of my favorite rock singers of all time. By the way, he still can sing it at over 70 years old! If you want to hear Paul really sing, Listen to The Firm Live "Live in Peace" a short term band with Paul Rodgers and Jimmy Page on guitar. If that doesn't bring a tear in your eye and move you?? nothing will lol.
Thank You Jamel for doing this version! I think a lot of us thought of Bad Co when we saw the notice you were doing Rock Steady. Back in the 70's there were rockers and there were disco fans, and we each had a song titled Rock Steady. But there's a 3rd version - Aretha Franklin has a Rock Steady song too!
Isn’t it funny how this music was made without auto tune or computers. It’s what do they call it talent. This is something missing from so much of today’s music. The 50s, 60s, and 70s in my opinion had the best music. From the early days of rock, MoTown, to early metal, progressive and experimental. Country sounded like country and not pop. Lyrics told a story, and the songs left you wanting to listen to them over and over.
Bad Co in the 70's were like the Jazz and Sun's were in the 90's, they had to always deal with the Bulls and Bad Co was around when Zeppelin were ruling the world. They have a VERY solid catalog and I think they're awesome❗

It picked up popularity later from FM stations by request and as time
went by and Bad Co.'s popularity rose, stations cutting back on royalty pay by essentially "starting over" at new release
level to pay out cheaper royalties than the climbing plateau of playing a hit song by a popular band - use requests, DJ favs from albums or B sides of 45s.
Big Example: Led Zeppelin. Think of every song you've ever heard on the radio by them and then check the singles released
by the band.
Great group! Incredible musicians. Should be in HOF. They have dozens. Ore classics . “Honey Child” , “Sweet Lil Sister” , “Burnin Sky” among others.
You should also check out Paul and Simon (drummer) original group Free. Especially “Wishing Well” and “Little Bit of Love”
Take care Jamel
I almost Forgot “ Deal with the Preacher” until I saw someone mention below so I will second that recommendation.
Saw them in concert when this album debut, bought the 8track for the car, wore it out and bought the cassette !
The first two Bad Company albums are awesome.
Love Paul Rodgers!! Seagull is one of my favorite unknown songs by them.
As a cheerleader we did a rock steady cheer because of the kicking song!
Paul Rodgers, lead singer(one of rock's great vocalists) and Jimmy Page formed a super group for an album or 2, worth a listen. called 'the Firm' most successful song called "Radioactive"
Paul Rodgers can sing the Phone book and make it sound bluesy / soulful
Teresa, totally agree, the finest rock/ blues frontman ever. Have you heard "Louisiana Blues ", "Wild Fire Woman", "Whisky Bottle" , all fantastic numbers from Bad Co.
Yes, this was a deep cut off their album. One of my favorite Bad Company tunes, it didn’t get the recognition it deserved! Thank you, another great reaction
We were always about the Guitar jams and how long till the neighbors came and pounded on the door shouting it's too loud... Think... our NEVER FORGOTTEN Jimi Hendrix.
Silver, Blue and Gold.
Enough said.
Yes Sir! Now THAT'S Rock Steady! Yep, 8 track in the Mach I
BOSS!
Their best cut ever, IMHO. Nothing but pure magic-in-the-pocket rock.
Holy Water. That's a great song. No Smoke Without a Fire. Both of those are excellent. All of the Bad Co. album is great
Please do not try and sneak Brian Howe in the conversation lol.
Went to the record store(you remember)picked up Areosmith Get your wings,on the marquee at the Agora next door was Tonight Bad Company, who is that I told my wife.Didnt go REGRETS REGRETS!
Paul Rodgers is everyone's dream frontman. He does it all, sings with soul, grunts when needed, and can rock it with the best of them. He is without a doubt one of my favorite rock
singers of all time. By the way, he still can sing it at over 70 years old! If you want to hear Paul really sing, Listen to The Firm Live "Live in Peace" a short term band with Paul Rodgers and
Jimmy Page on guitar. If that doesn't bring a tear in your eye and move you?? nothing will lol.
Oh, Jamal, you take us back to our youth. Love that you are playing all the great music we had back in the day.
Guitarist is Mick Ralphs who was in Mott The Hoople.
YES YOU ARE 100% CORRECT
That song 'Rock Steady' is my all time favorite Bad Co. song! So glad you had a chance to experience it.
Bad Co in the 70's were like the Jazz and Sun's were in the 90's, they had to always deal with the Bulls and Bad Co was around when Zeppelin were ruling the world. They have a VERY solid catalog and I think they're awesome❗
I love everything Bad Company!! So glad you're doing this.
This was fun! Now you have to complete the 'Rock Steady' trilogy with Aretha Franklin!! AKA What it is, What it Is! A super sampled song!
I’ve lobbied for this tune a lot. Awesome rock groove
Another under-appreciated Bad Company tune, from their Straight Shooter album, is "Wild Fire Woman".
One of my all time favorite bands ever. I'm so excited you're finally getting to them! Can't wait to hear moire. Thanks, Jamel!
~Burnin' Sky
~The entire albums: Bad Company, Straight Shooter, and Run with the Pack
~ Gone, Gone, Gone, Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy
~ Holy Water, Stranger Stranger
I love this kind of music. Grew up to it with my father playing it. Also Day 2 of asking for Freddie Jackson - Have You Ever Loved Somebody
OMG. I saw Bad Company on their One Hell of a Night tour with Joe Walsh. Let me just say that it was indeed one hell of a night.
I tell people to "Rock Steady" as encouragement or for a way to wish them well. This song is where I got the term. So, Rock Steady Jamal!!! From your friend American Mutt formerly Lance Soberg.
One of the best (debut) albums in rock history by one of the best voices in music. This album is definitely on my top ten desert island list.
heard this a trillion times for years growing up in bay area on rock radio. great song.
In Jamaica "Rock Steady" is actually a genre of music. Something like Reggae with some extra punch/sauce.
Bad Company, great band, very underated, almost as good as Free!!😁😁🇬🇧
Locally, it was always on the radio, so the lack of overall popularity is surprising.
There are plenty of great Bad Company songs, one of my favorite ones is Silver Blue and Gold. Such a great smooth ballad.
Seeing you so happy reacting to songs like this just brings joy to the world...Rock On...
This album is 💥
"They had me at Cow Bell!" Words to live by. That's the phrase I use when something awesome happens to me.
I grew up listening to Bad Co! But, I’m not ashamed to say, I thought they were an American blues rock band until I was educated by my older brother at about age 12 or 13. Paul Rodgers is one of my favorite vocalists! ✌️🤟🤘
Bad Company is the original from the first group and you will love it more thanks.
Paul Rodgers also sang (or sings) w/ Queen after Freddie Mercury died. GREAT singer!
