The only people who don’t get this are those who haven’t experienced adversity yet, or who have but are still struggling to give up an old identity. Props to you.
I was deeply into powerlifting for a long time myself. The middle portion of this video really hit home with me. I was totally self focused for ages but when I turned 30 I decided I wanted to become a more complete man, move to a place where I could picture myself building a family and living out the rest of my life, etc.. so I left my entire old life behind, and moved from Long Beach California to Chatanika Alaska and I did many of the things you described. Learned to shoot a bow and a rifle and now shoot both every day… Learned to build and maintain vehicles… Learned to raise animals (( now run a sled dog yard and a tour company with 15 dogs)… Own my 5 acres and a badass cabin… and I’m *learning* to practice things like forgiveness, finding the positives in life rather than the negatives, and overall just trying to put good energy into the world instead of selfish energy. I’m not a Christian or really even sure if I believe in God or not sometimes, just a guy who never had a Dad to set a proper example, trying to do better. Today is my 35th birthday, and all I want to do these days is be useful in my community, be of service to people around me, make positive impact in the lives of others, etc.. Pivoting isn’t admitting some kind of personal defeat, it’s actually taking triumph and ownership over the experiences that built you to this point, and using them wisely to have the best life your can have. Keep up the good work, Pete.
Exactly you can still lift but I feel ped use really can change you when u finally come off completely a lot of my friends went south but some changes for the better it’s why I never went down that road but no judgment I admire your story sir
I’ve been trained by Pete for 10 years. He is absolutely world class. I won’t ever train without him. As I’ve gotten older and my goals have changed Pete adapts my programming for my needs. He is exceptional.
Pete got small and skinny. Myself 45 years old have a lot of size and strength. I plan on keeping the beef for a long time. Will never allow myself to shrivel up like a raisin. Also I was a very thick stocky guy to begin with. Ronnie Coleman is a sad case his arms got very small.
IMO people have a terrible misconception about things in this social media age. Their favorite lifters are in the top percentage when it comes to thinks like genetics, strength, etc. Not everyone is as blessed or has the oppoturnity to focus on their own personal fitness as a top priority. Being married, having children, and priortizing your health like you've done these past the few years is still very inspiring to people like me in similar situations. Keep doing you dude.
I remember watching you when I was a depressed and angry kid in college. You inspired me to get strong because I felt your anger. Eventually, I realized there's more to life than the gym and numbers, and I think you did too at around the same time! Love you Pete!
Bro, I’ve followed you from the basement and Rice-A-Roni with ground beef days. You genuinely seem happier and healthier now than the last decade. Some people can’t accept it’s better to be healthier than a weight total.
I can't thank you enough for setting an example for me and all of us young guys who are in our 20's when it comes to the pursuit of our health and fitness goals. Your perspective and how you choose to view things in life are truly admirable. Keep up the great work!
Every video of yours feels like it's speaking directly to me and I comment this every time haha. People said the same to me because I used to be 230lbs and obsessed with the gym, now I'm 190lbs, way healthier and eating heavily organic/natural/grass fed/farmstand for like 90%+ of my meals and my working out is extremely varied and meant to make me well rounded and feel athletic. Best course action change I've made in my life.
anyone who squats 500+ is far from weak... thats all i gotta say about that... you knew when it was time to step back, get healthy, and set new (healthier) goals for your family. respect.
Same thing I'm going through pretty much. Past my prime. Life revolved around lifting all my teens and 20s. Now early 30s I have to actually be independent. Plus I'm past my prime and full of injuries so even if I wanted to life cannot revolve around lifting anymore. Now it's about somewhat hanging and staying healthy and injury free. While being decently strong and looking good. Trying to slowly look better. Truly get a life I'm trying to do. I wrapped my whole identity in getting as strong as humanely possible. Now I have to move on and even cut gym time to maintain including social media wasting time
I think you look great man. You look a lot healthier and I hope you are also happier. I fully agree with you by the way; I used to be all out on lifting, but I realized there’s a lot more to life than the gym.
I've been working out for 20 years. Multiple pivots in how I've approached the gym and fitness. Bodybuilding, powerlifting, crossfit, to losing 40lbs and maintaining consistency of going to the gym.
You have treaded where very few else have. They dont know the downsides that you felt. They only sat through the minutes long clips that you put up. The highlights. You have the liberty to stop lifting all together if you want. You already won many times over in my eyes. Keep on chuggin along!
I am a 45 year old lifter my goal every year is a 600 Hatfield squat. Sometimes it’s a high box sometimes a low box. But it’s done every year for the last 4 years!! Just for me nobody else. Much love to your new journey in life!!
Extremely based Pete. There is a time and place for everything in life. I have two kids my self. And my whole world changed to the better after i became a father. And also the perspective about what's important in lofe changes too
Pete, I watched you attempt to pull a number in the mid 800s i believe some years back up in oak ridge. Your grip failed you, and you went to the back room and attempted it with snatch. You are an amazing person. Who cares what the outsiders say. Anyone who respects health and wellness respects you no matter what route your on. One decision does not define a man. You have gone farther than most in the sport, and the fact that you can dial it back and continue to live your life the best you can speaks volumes. You are an inspiration. Keep doing what you're doing and never stop!
Pete, been watching you since 2014. Animal, Mark Bell’s page, powerlifting compilations, etc. i was watching back in washer and dryer days. I took 3/4 years off from the “fitness” world, like stopped caring bout YT videos and unfortunately stopped lifting. But I’ve been consistent for 3 months now. I’ve been checking out the CZcams fitness world again and man it’s the same crap but different sponsor intros. Same old fake nattys, same drama but with with new social apps in play… let’s put it this way I thought of you as what Larry Wheels is today. Like you said bro, people pivot and I’m happy for you. (Got a pic with you at Arnold Classic 2019)
I literally couldn’t give a rats ass if you are smaller and not as strong as you were, I enjoy watching YOU and always have, so seeing you so much healthier makes me so happy and motivating!
You earned your stripes and you looked healthy man! Motivated me to want to leave the lifestyle too. I’ve been in it for many years now and I think it’s time to let go of the sauce finally
Let’s see some run training videos Pete! I’m happy for you man, keep up the good work. You are no less of a man for taking the path you are on. Those that matter don’t mind and those that mind don’t matter!
Being adaptable through our journey in life is an extremely valuable skill to have. Some minor injuries and pains caused me to pivot some years back. I was cardio addicted and loved it, now I found a new love through bodybuilding style lifting. It’s a whole new direction, but has been a rewarding path I never would of went down had circumstances not pushed me this direction. Always see the silver lining, most times doors close in order to open new ones 🚪
I met you out at a UPA event in Dubuque, IA years and years ago. I haven't seen a lot of your videos but I've always been subscribed... can't believe how much you changed :)
This is why I never got coaching for anything. Out of nowhere, I’ll randomly go full running mode for months and loose all my mass. Then recomp strength back. I have fun with things no matter what. Give trail running a try if you haven’t yet. It tends to be quite addictive ;)
What a great message….can relate to everything Pete is saying. As a 47 year old man with only 4yrs left of my mortgage, goals do change. Love powerlifting & always will do but there comes a time when you have to just step back a bit…health & mobility are as important to me now as a heavy squat was a few years back. Love the content Pete.
Watched your videos since the basement days. You may have "lost" your gainzz, but you look healthier and more vibrant and I dare say younger compared to the gear days and that makes me very happy!
Hey Pete, I've been watching your videos since I was 15 and now I'm turning 22 soon. Every day I'm afraid that I won't live up to my full potential, and one day I'll stop making progress on the things that feel important to me. I'm afraid that I'll be living in my shadow of who I was until I die. Your videos are proof that things are going to be alright. Thank you
i agree! you are right! happy for you! this actually could literally save your life! you are now on the way of stoics and you try to improve your "virtue"! which for them was all together - manliness, ethics, health and fitness, readiness, erudition and intelect, sense of justice, be able to take part in war or fight etc. all these noble features and theirs principles embodied in "sound spirit in sound body" or "per aspera ad astra" are very meaningful even today...
I have always discarded what others think, with the exception of my close relationships….I plan everything and consider the facts of the situation to the fullest, most don’t therefore their opinion is shit
I haven't been consistent lifting for the last couple months, but I can still strict curl 40's for reps at random which is the line I keep my eye on for crossing over. When I can't do that at any given time, I will at least hit it good and hard for the following 2-3 weeks. As far as the end of the world, it's definitely coming within our lifetime. *The end of the world is the day you die! lol*
Huge Pete Rubish fan, I was rocking with this guy years ago when he was dead lifting in the basement and going crazy, but I haven't watched one of his vids in a while, and damn seeing how small he is in this video is pretty shocking....
you look great bro been following you since u were deadlifting in ur basement by the washing machine, u look way healthier and im happy you dropped steroids for you and your family
You really need to take up hunting Pete. Been going since I was little with my dad and it’s a great thing to teach to/spend time with your children doing. You will love it, and it’s a great skill to have for all you talked about.
Its nice to hear your on your own journey of personal growth keep making them gains love your about turn keep getting after it! ps I love your new content philosophy just do you with your content your on fire!
I am on the same path as you in a way. 26 years old studied physics, but I don't aim to make a career in anything remotely close to it. Family, gardening, an own home with a gym and handing weapons is where I want to go. Maybe do some wildlife protection if I can afford it.
I'm not a homesteader but you can always start small by learning to bake and a whole lot of other food and gardening stuff, even if it's just a few plants indoors under a light. I love baking my own bread just how I like it, along with a lot of other stuff.
The only people who don’t get this are those who haven’t experienced adversity yet, or who have but are still struggling to give up an old identity. Props to you.

Happy birthday mate. Inspirational read. Strive to be positive and be better every day 💪
awesome message bro1!

I won’t ever train without him. As I’ve gotten older and my goals have changed Pete adapts my programming for my needs.
He is exceptional.
I went with Pete after the lockdowns, I'd never look elsewhere now he has got me so far!
@@AlDEN1999 great to hear!
Pete got small and skinny. Myself 45 years old have a lot of size and strength. I plan on keeping the beef for a long time. Will never allow myself to shrivel up like a raisin. Also I was a very thick stocky guy to begin with. Ronnie Coleman is a sad case his arms got very small.
love you pete. Your legacy is immortal for all of us who grew up watching the old videos💪🏻

Content that speaks from the heart is the best content because it’s not ‘content’ as typically described, it’s genuine.
you look phenomenally healthy man. Glad to see you in this new chapter. God bless you.
I can't thank you enough for setting an example for me and all of us young guys who are in our 20's when it comes to the pursuit of our health and fitness goals. Your perspective and how you choose to view things in life are truly admirable. Keep up the great work!

Do what makes you happy and what you enjoy! You have nothing to prove, your lifts will always be there now is the time to chase new goals.

that 30 year old mindset, good for you bro , had the same shift in my 20's when I had a kid
Keep it real man, were still with you and you are still such a role model. This was a great message bro
Christ is King.
Preach on, Pastor Rubish! I like your approach
Man, you’ll never be weak. Strength is relative.
Pete, been watching you since 2014. Animal, Mark Bell’s page, powerlifting compilations, etc. i was watching back in washer and dryer days. Congratulations on April 8th cementing your legacy and enjoy the journey of life's goals
Love the honesty and the new focus on health
You're stronger than ever Pete
I literally couldn’t give a rats ass if you are smaller and not as strong as you were, I enjoy watching YOU and always have, so seeing you so much healthier makes me so happy and motivating!
Looking younger and healthier
You're always gonna be an inspiration my brotha, thank you for your wisdom!
I actually agree with Pete here. You change, priorities change, especially when you become older. Nothing wrong with that.
Great video Pete!
You earned your stripes and you looked healthy man! Motivated me to want to leave the lifestyle too. I’ve been in it for many years now and I think it’s time to let go of the sauce finally

What's up Pete.
Hopefully you would see this :
How about a video on structuring a bench press program?
Thanks in advance 💪🏻
So athletic and looking healthier than you have in decades.
Your still a badass!! Your growth is your growth!!!!

pete you look a MILLION times better. this is growth.
I met you out at a UPA event in Dubuque, IA years and years ago. I haven't seen a lot of your videos but I've always been subscribed... can't believe how much you changed :)
Respect the change I 100% understand where he’s coming from. Hope he has good luck with everything.
This is why I never got coaching for anything. Out of nowhere, I’ll randomly go full running mode for months and loose all my mass. Then recomp strength back. I have fun with things no matter what.

You look younger and healthier Pete. Good on ya!
Really fantastic videos young man!...im proud of you!..im 55 years old and to hear this from a young guy like you is amazing..
I officially hung up my belt last week brother. I'm doing BJJ and focusing on big boy stuff now.
What a great message….can relate to everything Pete is saying. As a 47 year old man with only 4yrs left of my mortgage, goals do change. Love powerlifting & always will do but there comes a time when you have to just step back a bit…health & mobility are as important to me now as a heavy squat was a few years back. Pivot
Change
Means you are growing
Do what makes you and your family happy brother!
Watched your videos since the basement days. You may have "lost" your gainzz, but you look healthier and more vibrant and I dare say younger compared to the gear days and that makes me very happy!
I will never pivot. Keeping the beef matters.
You traded being a powerlifter to becoming a Terminator lol. Not as big, but still freakishly strong, and more healthy and well rounded.
This definitely hits home, pivoting is the best way to describe it!
Thank you
Bro, good and bad things are gonna happen. My advise is put GOD FIRST and everything will fall into place.
Pete, seems like you're stronger than you've ever been
Wisdom is power !!
Keep evolving, ive been following since the og days my dude. I think youre on the right track.
Well said, Pete!! Keep pivoting and keep growing in your life.
i agree! you are right! happy for you! this actually could literally save your life! you are now on the way of stoics and you try to improve your "virtue"! which for them was all together - manliness, ethics, health and fitness, readiness, erudition and intelect, sense of justice, be able to take part in war or fight etc. all these noble features and theirs principles embodied in "sound spirit in sound body" or "per aspera ad astra" are very meaningful even today...
Do whatever you wanna do, Pete. God bless.
Amen brother - this is the best content you've made and I've followed you for years my friend. Much love from the UK.
You're looking so damn young Pete good job
I love the new well rounded approach Pete , and I’m interested in getting a bow and arrow too
I have always discarded what others think, with the exception of my close relationships….I plan everything and consider the facts of the situation to the fullest, most don’t therefore their opinion is shit
"exited the sport" 🙄 you are IMMORTAL in the sport, Pete ❤
4:00 or a billion years, because hes been "coming" for ages.
100% Agree! Pivoting = progression! Health = wealth! Keep on killing it, man!
Pete you're a damn tank homie. And your new legacy may be less loud, but it's 10x more important.
Great message Pete. I will say I miss the regular uploads and the interviews with lifters.
So what your telling us Pete is that your not a cookie cutter. Amen 🙏 👍👊
You're amazing Pete. A lot of people are trying to get well rounded and you're a good model for that. Stay amazing!
Real. Happy I moved to the Knox area. Stay strong, Pete
Spot on Pete
Love you Pete!!!!!
Def looking natural now haha good for you
I agree with You. I also did a change in my life. I also did a big weights :-D . Regards from strong to strong !
Best version of your self 👍 health is wealth

you look great bro been following you since u were deadlifting in ur basement by the washing machine, u look way healthier and im happy you dropped steroids for you and your family
Pete and Jesse Norris Will always be the goat! Hands down!
Thank you for this. I needed to hear it. You inspire me so much brother.
Sounds good to me. Self defense is a good skill to have along with decent cardio capacity to simply run away when that's the smart option.
Great stuff!
Great video my friend. Going through a lot of pivoting as well. Keep killin it
Those of us that were there for your big lifts won’t forget Pete. Don’t mind these little kids on here 😂💪🏻💯
You really need to take up hunting Pete. Been going since I was little with my dad and it’s a great thing to teach to/spend time with your children doing. You will love it, and it’s a great skill to have for all you talked about.
Love this channel for keeping it real always
it's actually incredible how much younger and healthier you look
Its nice to hear your on your own journey of personal growth keep making them gains love your about turn keep getting after it! ps I love your new content philosophy just do you with your content your on fire!
You’re the man Pete!
U might have been stronger physical. But mentally your on top!
keep it up.
U will allways be a legion!.
I am on the same path as you in a way. 26 years old studied physics, but I don't aim to make a career in anything remotely close to it.
Family, gardening, an own home with a gym and handing weapons is where I want to go. Maybe do some wildlife protection if I can afford it.
Respect. I'm in the same boat but in my early twenties. Wish I had the money to homestead now.
I'm not a homesteader but you can always start small by learning to bake and a whole lot of other food and gardening stuff, even if it's just a few plants indoors under a light. I love baking my own bread just how I like it, along with a lot of other stuff.
Solid content as always Pete
You love to see Pete pursuing the masculine fantasy
I loved this video pete is keeping it real
Thought of getting back into BJJ? Think I remember an old video mentioning you moved away from it to focus entirely on powerlifting
