    I love these subjective yet thought-out kind of videos. One issue I did find when watching reviews is that the Milwaukee, under extreme torque, spread and stripped fasteners where other more expensive brands would literally tear the metal clean off of fastener before anything. They didn't "round" the fasteners, they sheared the corners off. No discernible spread.

    • @ianloyd6384
      @ianloyd6384 Před 3 lety +2

      And that’s your difference in $!$ price. If you’re a DIY guy or not putting Max torque on a fastener- Milwaukee will probably get you by. But if you’re a Professional tech, or putting very high torque out with your wrenches- tha where the Snap On’s shine. Or even the Wright WrightGrip2’s for a cheaper price point. Also saw a test where the WrightGrip2’s performed better overall in heavily torquing a fastener. 🤙🏻

    I own both sets of the Carlyle wrenches, man they are awesome! Was saving up for the Snap On wrenches but came across Carlyle & I was sold. After buying the Carlyle wrenches, I couldn’t justify spending $800 on Snap On wrenches , put that extra money towards other tools I needed. Just as stout as the Snap On, strongly recommend. I paid over $300 for each of my Flank Drive sets over 25 years ago. I just purchased a set of the Carlyle set from NAPA on sale for $99. I never thought I’d see the day that wrenches made by anyone other than Snap On were worth having but The Carlyle & Milwaukee are a great quality product at a good price point. The factory rack for the Carlyles is aggravating to me. Those Milwaukee wrench racks are the cat’s meow.

    From tests I've seen with Real Tool Reviews, it doesn't matter how large or small the teeth are. The Wright Wrightgrip wrenches have tiny teeth that bite where a normal wrench would round a bolt. It kept torqueing it until the bolt head snapped off.

    If you buy the new Milwaukee ratcheting sets they have the same type of angled cases, and they switched the sides up on the Ratcheting set so you can put the normal (non-ratcheting) and Ratcheting Metric sets together and both SAE sets together in seperate drawers, as an option as well. This way they fit the same as you showed in the video, but you can have the full sets of each type nicely stored if you like to have Metric and SAE wrenches in seperate drawers.

    I bought a set of of snap on wrenches, 3/8-3/4 7 piece set for $140 on a promotional sale. When I went to compare them to the rest of my coworkers older snap-on wrenches, all of them had thinner heads on both the open and closed ends. The 9/16 wrench had increased in size on the open end by a full 40 thousandths of an inch. Snap on just like craftsman, are decreasing in quality and either maintaining or increasing in price.
    I’m going to look into finishing off my set with another brand. Possibly Carlyle

    My Metric set is SnapOn flank drive and my Sae is a good mix of SnapOn, Cornwell, and a few other USA made brands. Love Em all but I have to say Milwaukee is really stepping up to the plate and giving these Tool Truck Brands a run for their money. From what your saying and what I hear the quality is there as well. I see SnapOn having to really start reevaluating their marketing approach, or giving away more freebies with purchases. Somehow I feel that price would be the last to change and they would rather give away more free hats and socks instead.

      The Engine Room I will be honest if I didn’t own a set of wrenches and was looking to buy them, Milwaukee would most definitely be the set I would buy. They grip well the handles feel better than any other brand I have held to date and the wrench rack fits great even in a smaller cheap made box. It is an awesome set all the way around.

    I'm really glad Milwaukee came out with a wrench set,They did the research before they released them to stand up to the competition, This whole time It was like you just NEEDED the Snap-On wrenches, Now there's so many other ways you can go, Being said $130 for a set of wrenches is still fairly steep, But comparing that to Snap-On at nearly $400 after taxes.. way better, They really look like the MAC Precision Torque wrenches

    Another brand of Wrenches to consider, is Wright. I also own Carlyle and Snap-on. Never had to return either of them. Wright wrenches are known to be tough. Another You-Tuber torture tested Wright along with other brands including Snap-on, Carlyle and Milwaukee. The Wright wrench at the box end tested at 1500ft.lbs of torque before it broke! Snap-on Carlyle and Milwaukee were not far behind. Needless to say Im pretty happy with my purchase. At the end of the day when choosing a particular brand of wrenches it comes down to preference and how well it fits you. I don't think anyone in their right mind is going to put 1500ft.lbs. of torque on their wrenches.

    I’ve got the Snap-on sets and I do love them but I really don’t understand why they can’t design better trays!!
    They have started doing more foam trays which I do like, but why not make them so they fit better together like the Milwaukee rather than taking up loads of wasted room putting a big S on for advertising!! Make them smaller and more compact which give more space in the draw meaning more room AH lets buy MORE tools to fill it!!!

    The word going around the You Tube World for tools is the Channellock version and the Carlyle version is the one and the same wrench produced by the same company in Taiwan. Please get your hands on some WrightGrip 2.0 combination wrenches. Made in the USA and every bit the wrench the Flankdrive plus is as far as gripping fasteners. Roughly 1/2 what a Flankdrive set goes for. I bet your independent tool truck man can get them. They offer them in a satin finish or a full polished finish. They are a USA made option that won’t set you back as much as Snapon.

    Milwaukee may not be made in USA (or Canada in my case), it has been pumping out very acceptable quality tools that still makes sense for the "prosumers". It would be nice to get made in America, even at a reasonable premium, but I've noticed that with good quality control, some overseas makers are making very decent tools that won't break the bank. In all honesty, some are making tools in Asia that can be occasionally of better quality and design.

    The other factor is warranty. Snap-on we already know you would have to wait a week for a replacement. Unless the dealer has no problem making a personal trip to your shop. Milwaukee, got to make sure the merchant is a authorized seller to honor the warranty on it. Carlyle, walk in and swap it out or they can come to you for the swap, however they do not do warranty on the Milwaukee .

    Many people don't know but Snap-On, Mac abd Gearwrench don't have the best Quality Control. You can get Quality brands at a fraction of the cost of SO, Mac and GW.
    Crescent, Husky, Towallmark, Carlyle, Duralast, Tekton and Icon are good wrenches to get for Quality.

    • @KoonTrucking
      @KoonTrucking  Před 6 lety

      Scott Pearson haha I don’t like using them either but I have had to do that and I think it has something to do with the short bursts seems to pop loose easy. If I’m really struggling I will stick that 3/8” Milwaukee on there and usually just a bump and it breaks it free. Then screw it out w my fingers and tighten it the “correct” way when it all drains. People kill me using a 26” ratchet then strain to tighten an oil plug. I just shake my head.

    I'm looking to pick up a backup set of wrenches to my Mac precision's (best feeling wrench hands down for me) and usually I go with Urrea (poor man's Proto pro wrenches) as backup wrenches but their quality has completely dropped out now so I have been looking at the Wright Grip 15 piece metric for $167.
