When I went home I saw the scene where the girl was brutally being (censored word) on the river. It wasn't pleasant so I asked my mom what was happening and she told me what it was. She actually had me play outside again as she felt that I was not comfortable watching it due to some nudity and brutality. When I came back again it was already the ending where the protagonist realized who the true cannibals were.
She then lent the cd to one of our neighbors who is the father of my cousin. When DVD was rampant in those days, usually what the neighborhood do is gather inside a house and watch a movie. Even some had to be just outside the house to peep.
I watched some parts past the scene mentioned above when group watching happened. I was with some of my cousins, uncles, aunts, and some adults. When they laughed and mocked the brutality scene where the perpetrators got their karma, I also laughed with my cousins but still, I can't hide the fact that it felt disturbing watching it even though I watched it with a group of people. Maybe some people were outraged because the film doesn't take issue with how the George W. Bush administration practically tricked us into accepting the U.S. invasion of Iraq, by constantly linking that country's dictator, Saddam Hussein, with the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
In fact, there's a scene where the main character uses 9/11 as a justification for his sniper actions. He thinks he's a hero and a patriot, when, in reality, he's as much a terrorist and a murderer as Osama bin Laden.
