      I guess it comes down to what you're doing with the vehicle, what size turbo, when you're looking to spray it.. before or after turbo is spooled etc. Nitrous is an effective power adder, but for the cost.. I bet you could find a newer tech turbo to do exactly what you're looking to achieve with zero sacrafice.

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  Před 4 lety +1

      Stock compression 9.5:1. It's using stock pistons, and the head has not been decked, and using stock head gasket. And I don't follow your question about made same power at lesser boost... what are you comparing too?

    • @jdportwerks6795
      @jdportwerks6795 Před 4 lety

      CO Motorsports sorry I was under the impression these motors were 10.5.1 or 11.1 compression. If that were the case the motor would have made the power it made with less boost. That’s what I was trying to explain.

      @COMotorsports  Před 4 lety +10

      @@jdportwerks6795 Ahh... the newer direct port injected engines have higher compression but the older port injected 1.8t engines have lower compression. But yes with higher compression it would make more power with same boost level. The issue then is you can't run as much boost due to detonation so it's a trade off if you don't have good fuel to support the compression.

    Just curious how come the torque is lower vs the HP on a big turbo. I have a K03 sport on my 1.8T awm engine. And my Torque is quite a bit higher then my HP.
    Was just curious

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  Před 4 lety +2

      Many things play factor in that. However the biggest one in your case is turbo size. The tiny K03 is good a making low end power and torque, but doesn't flow much after 5000 RPM, which is why it feels peppy in the city, but no fun at all on the highway when you try and rev it out further. Put a larger turbo on and it can make similar torque but more peak HP. But with proper turbo selection you can have the best of both worlds up to a certain point. I stopped caring about TQ on a street car at around 400wtq as it becomes useless and just breaks a lot of stuff, so after that it's more so about obtaining peak power. Also note cam selection plays a very large factor in this as well when you start to modify the engine. I've made higher 400wtq, low 400whp then just switched cams and completely changed the graph. Making higher HP and lower TQ... which is exactly what I was trying to accomplish on it.

    Planning on doing a rebuild like this. Got some questions for you guys: My car 1.8t has 240,000 miles and change my oil every 5k miles and hasn't seen overheating issues in the 17 years that I have owned this little guy . Doesn't smoke or anything like that. Just want to put rods and do a bigger turbo. Something reliable and fun to drive. Do you recommend changing the main bearings or just leave them in there and do the rod bearings? Also did you install calico or standard coated rod bearings? Planning on using the same pistons. Whats piston rings do you recommend? Is Grant fine?
    Thanks again and keep on rocking this 1.8t builds!!

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  Před 4 lety

      If the compression is good then you don't really need to change the rings, however since it has high mileage and you're going to have it apart than it only makes sense to do them. I use ACL Race bearings.. in regards to the mains, that's up to you... I've done plenty with stock main bearings. Just depends on power level you're chasing and what it will be used for.

      That wouldn't be apples to apples, although this 1.8t has a similar size turbo 62mm it's much newer technology, and brand new. The other is very old and tired. Next up, we had decent fuel in this one at the end which allowed more timing... which in turn makes more power. I think it’s a crappy setup ! It’s missing at least 1k RPM up top to have useable power ! It finally wakes up at 5k and hits cutoff at 6.5k…if it revved to 7.5k it would make more sense but as is you’re much better with a smaller turbo that kicks in earlier in the RPM range ! Perfectly tuned with a K04 it would be much quicker on the street !

    • @COMotorsports
      @COMotorsports  Před 2 lety

      K04 are dumb on 1.8ts. However this setup was built to make 600+ originally. This was just step one hence the lazzy setup, however it got abandoned and this car doesn't exist anymore.

    Hi, well, im trading my a3 quattro 1.8t 8l 370hp for a 1.9diesel quattro. Because, 1-cheap, 2-torque-, 3- can handle stock 550hp (with build trans and haldex).
    I had so many issue on build motor, head is not holding and expensive.

      @@COMotorsports yes.. Tdi can handle big turbo any better then a built 1.8t! I have been there. Strocker 2.0t (1.8t bam 58) and head build.
      I used it on circuit and daily, and my tdi with profiled rings ONLY is making more than 3x power/money then i spend on my 2.0 strocked 1.8t bam engine.
      Is not that i am cheap.. But i want performance.
      Haldex stage 4 (gti 6 rear) with haldex controler.

      A simple google injector calculator will show you the injectors are over 80% duty cycle on pump gas. Put the rev litter lower so it don’t hit injector duty limit. Do a data log and you will see it go over 100% duty cycle. It’s not boost cut your hearing you have to small of injectors ask me how I know
