  • Follow a year in the Portland Rose Garden with a man who tended it for decades. Harry Landers worked for and curated Portland's famous International Rose Test Garden from 1989 to 2017. In that time, he increased the number of rose plants by more than 7,000. His army of volunteers tend the 650 varieties across 4.5 acres of blooms. Portland Parks & Recreation gets hundreds of new roses free every year from rose companies in exchange for providing research and evaluating which varieties grow best.

My favorite memories of Portland are the Rose Garden, the 26 mile hiking trails in the city and Mt. Hood in the winter - the pink aura at sunset. Wow!

They should hire someone to propagate the cuttings from the pruned roses and sell rose plants in the spring.

in organic gardening plants don't like to live amongst their dead; you need to start practicing crop rotation now if you want to have a sustainable rose garden. this means no rose family in certain areas but those places will have the BEST roses you have had in years.
