What to look for in buying a Scooter
#1 Buy from a reputable seller...I popped by the other day as I noticed a nut had fallen off and they popped on a new one in moments with a smile (Ride the Glide here in Victoria, serving Canada)
The ZERO 9 is a powerful electric scooter that is comfortable to ride. It comes with integrated front spring suspension in the front steering column and very sophisticated and beautifully designed rear twin air shock suspension.
With 9-inch pneumatic wheels, it offers better ride quality and traction than 8-inch wheeled scooters without the bulk of a 10-inch wheeled scooter - an excellent balance.
With a powerful 600W motor, this scooter out-performs most other scooters of a similar size. All these at a very compelling price. The ZERO 9 is a good choice for long range commutes or leisure rides.

Thanks for the reviews, UPS tracker says my Zero 9 arrives today, I’ve only ridden Byrd scooters before, I’m excited
I think you'll notice the difference lol...happy trails and stay safe out there :) Cheers Dean
I reached 617 miles on my Zero 9 this morning. I'm 188 lbs and get 18-20 miles of range. I had my 1st rear flat at 602 miles. I squirted some Armor-Dilloz in it. Aired back up, so far so good. 🤞
that's so cool...the Armor-Dilloz...I think I'll do a review of it...sounds awesome :) Loving my Zero 9 too :) Free Parking and Free Gas :)
hey man your weight is similar like me. about 84kg. u saying max speed 20km/h? with that weight?
@@jonnyboy9563 top speed is probably 25 mph
are u happy with the top speed? and how good your zero 9 going uphill?
@@jonnyboy9563 oh yea this speed is plenty fast. I live in Florida so we don't really have to many hills lol.
500 km on my zero 9 so far.
After maybe 20 km the front disc break stopped working after getting looser and looser - so i stopped using it and just use the back break. Tried tightening it myself but nothing helped. Probably need to tighten the wire insisde but need a tool to pull the cable or something, my hands wernt enough.
Other than that its a great thing to ride
Lessons learnt: do NOT use in raid/snow/wet conditions. One of the front lights stopped working and if i turn the steer too much the last light will stop lighting up.
interesting about the brake...sounds like a pair of needle nose plyers could be your friend...or a visit to a bike shop and I'm sure they can help get your brake back up and running...thanks for sharing :)
When i take my scooter grocery shopping i just grab 1 of the hand baskets and put it on the scooters deck. This way i'm not stuffing things into a backpack and don't have to worry about being mistaken for a shoplifter. I bring 2 reusable bags and just throw them over the handlebars to get my stuff home.
we do the exact same thing :)
I've been worried about laws regarding these types of scoots in Canada too. In Ontario, apparently the gov't is incentivizing scooters in an effort to encourage greener transport since January 2020. similar to e-bikes laws they wont require licensing or insurance, as long as they're limited to a max 500w motor and don't exceed 32 kms p/hr on flat roads. Moreover, travel on sidewalks is not permitted and a helmet must be worn. More powerful scoots are only permitted on private land and since no company I know of are insuring these things if I decided to ride one that does not comply on public roads I could find myself in big financial trouble. I'd imagine most cops wouldn't bother me if I was riding responsibly but you could imagine the problems I'd have when involved in a collision. Thanks for sharing, the Zero 9 looks like a great choice, despite the minor issues.
Thanks Roger
Seems absurd that they want to limit the size of a motor...my wife on a Zero 9 vs me on the Zero 9 is a completely different ride experience (due to me being more than double her weight). Hope the legislators don't mess this up and allow people to go green naturally (with a bit of encouragement ?)
I think about a Corvette...if I buy a new one they don't limit the horsepower....but I can get a ticket if I drive it irresponsibly...same for a scooter?
Anyway I'll be doing a couple of videos soon with the Zero 9...a Zero 9 after 2000 kms
and a Video comparing the Zero 9, Leger, Touring and Zero 8...hope to film tomorrow :)
Cheers and stay safe Roger :)
I don't think the weight limit has so much to do if the scooter can drive you around. I think it is because it's not build for a person with a higher weight...it can break. Of course the weight will effekt the speed but i don't think that's why they write it. Correct me if I'm wrong
I'm sure you're right :)
Nice, missed your video when you put it up. My Z9 has been mothballed for last couple months due to lockdown, just starting to get out and about on it again.
Hopefully the weather is good for you to get back on it...so much fun :) :) safe riding ;)
@@TimsElectric The weather has improved, just need to get past lockdown which hopefully can do in about a week or 2.
I understand :) enjoy the better weather :)
Nice videos!
How did you get the flats?
Was it a pain walking it back home?
The flats were from pinched inner tubes ...I'm too heavy lol....and yes it's not fun pushing it...but easy enough...just a long walk ...of shame lol :)
I'm about to pull the trigger on the Zero 9. Concerned, however, about it's lack of water resistance if I get caught in the rain. What's your experience with zero 9 in the elements?
that's actually a video that I have written out to shoot...I just need it to rain :) ...bottom line, I don't like riding in the rain, mucks up the apartment, not fun handling...but it does ride fine...my shorts are now stained because of getting caught in rain (when going faster the spray comes up)....no problem with the scooter though :) More in depth video coming soon :)...if it ever rains here again this summer :)
@@TimsElectric I appreciate all the info and perspective from a fellow 200+ lb rider.
Thanks Ron...more coming :)
Laws, it depends on the province.
Here in NB I'm allowed to have a 500w and 32kmh escooter and it's equivalent to a regular bicycle hence all the rules that apply to bicycles apply to my m365 pro (for now I want to jump to 09 with the 500w engine in it).
What I figured is like you said don't be an idiot, no one will bother you about your speed simple as that.
Certain trails bikes are allowed to do 10 kmh so if there's no one around I do 15 or so, if there's other people around I act accordingly and sometimes I go at 5-10. The rest of the trails don't have restrictions so I do 30 (speed unlocked on my pro).
3 weeks 400 km on it lol.
Unfortunately I can't have a 10x here or even an Apollo explorer (not allowed by law), so 09 with the 500w is going to be my next option.
wise thoughts Tiago :) :) thanks for sharing...exactly don't be an idiot lol :)
I was thinking of getting the zero 9, but I'm worried about IP rating. The ninebot is IPX5 and in KL Malaysia it rains a lot.
I think you're right to be concerned...I really wish that some of the smaller scooters had better IP ratings...I wouldn't ride the Zero 9 in the rain unless I waterproofed it myself...which I don't know how to do :)
@@TimsElectric so I just discovered monorims, they have a 46v 500w motor you can add to the ninebot max, they also have front and rear suspension kits. I think I'm gonna max out a max and attach an external 12v battery, apparently you can go close to 40km/hr, and with the suspension it looks like a zero 9 but also has the IPX5 rating. It is gonna cost me more but worth it.
probably easier to get what you need in a scooter :)
Also I found this company that might be helpful ...protects the scooter and they're in the Philippines I think :) so closer to you :)

@@TimsElectric cheers
hope it helps :)
I got a zero 9 equivalent rebrand from Apollo in Montreal, I'm 215 lbs. I wanted to get the zero 10 model they had but I couldn't justify an extra 500$ when my city is only in around a 17 km radius and the 9 should get me anywhere i need and back just fine as its range is 35-40 km. Plus I live in an apartment so weight was an issue. Hopefully I made the right choice and still have good top speed, its getting here in a few days 🤞
Love Montreal :) Such a fun city :)
La Belle Province :)
I think you and I came to the same conclusions....living in an apartment can carrying it up the stairs is super easy with the Zero 9 and being as light as you are you'll get great range and top speeds :)
Cheers to you from another beautiful Canadian city, Victoria :)
@@TimsElectric I've heard Victoria is a beautiful place, and would love to check it out someday, never even been to the ocean haha I'm smack dab in the middle of Alberta in Red Deer myself, I just bought my scooter from Montreal haha you don't really see many e scooters out and about here so it'll be interesting to see people's reactions to it when I'm out riding. Do drivers tend to hate on them when on the roads from your experience?
I think most cars just view them as bicycles ...unless you got a 10x or something and you're going the same speed as traffic in which case it feels more like riding a motorcycle :) If you get a chance, throw the scooter in the trunk and drive out to BC and see the ocean...it's lovely to ride beside...I quite often go out for a boot on it in the afternoon and circle around Victoria usually about 6-7 kms...just chilling and getting fresh air :) Ride Safe :)
Im considering buying either the Zero 9 or the Mercane widewheel. I have a question if u dnt mind^^. I live in Norway so there is a lot of uphills where i live, I weigh 200 pounds. Which one is best suited for uphill driving considering that here in Norway we cant drive an Electric scooter that exceeds 22km/h which means all our scooters u have to buy them with a speed limiter. Thank you for ur content!
Terrific Question...the simple answer is neither will be great on hills...in my experience the hills are not kind to single motor scooters...however I preferred the Zero 9....but with the wide wheel you won't get flat tires...depends...if you're ok with the occasional flat tire (assuming the roads are similar to Canada and have the occasional pothole) then the Zero 9.
Last on this though....I don't understand why they limit the scooter power in some countries...if my wife rides a Zero 9 she'll be faster (because she's light) then me on the same machine and she can whip up the hills no problem...it's odd that legislators do this...but you can still by a Bugatti Veyron? It makes no sense to me :)
Take care and let me know which one you choose...this video might help : czcams.com/video/bb0CLGBGV2U/video.html
Cheers
Tim
@@TimsElectric i dnt understand either, they wanna protect they say..😅 well it is wht it is. I assume in canada there is snow as well , have u tried the zero 9 in different weather conditions and how were ur thoughts! Thanks for ur response btw
lol...yes it snows a bit :)
as to weather...I typically ride only in the dry weather :)
sometimes I get caught with a bit of rain but otherwise just dry weather only...never snow :)
Great update 👍 Need your thoughts on the 10x !!!!!!
I love it!
You will love the 10x being a big. Guy 🛴
Thanks, scheduled to film it on Wednesday :)
Hi Tim, how fast can you go on the zero 9 at 275lbs?
20mph or 32 kph was what I got on it John :)
Hi, I'm wondering if how far could zero 9 go in a single charge for thick guys like us
I seem to be ok to go 16kms if that helps...if I'm gentle..otherwise full power all the time 12kms max :)
what kind of battery do you have? LG or SINC?
sorry I have no idea what kind of battery was in it :)
Awesome video 👌
I just got the zero 9 and for some reason I get error code 16 whenever I use it for a decent amount. It's literally new but idk what it means
I looked it up and it depends on the generation of the scooter...I would contact the place you bought it..if could be as simple as a headlight error but I would double check which generation it is :) Here's the link I looked at: zeromanual.com/wiki/Gen3/Error_Codes
@@TimsElectric How do you check the generation of the Zero 9?
@@Lectrosoul Both of your questions are awesome...and I have no idea lol ...but will ask my local when I pop by on Wednesday :)
@@TimsElectric Sweet! 🙏
Nice review. Have you had any flats yet?
Yes I have, I had one that I patched badly...I ended up getting a replacement tube. But the ride is so much better with the air filled tires and the performance is better too.... it feels safer in the corner with the air filled tires...hope that helps :)
@@TimsElectric front or rear flat...was it hard to replace?
rear flat and I chickened out...I took it into the shop I bought it...it's only $20 and they had all the tools. I watched them change it over and it wasn't that tricky...If they weren't a 5 min ride away I would have done it myself :)
@@TimsElectric Yeah, that's why I bought the Zero 8 which has a solid rear tire. I also have about 1000 km on it and still going like brand new. How did you get the flat...did you drive over a nail?
nasty pothole that I missed in the dark...no biggie :)
Can you tell me what brand the batteries are in the Zero 9, i see some info saying they should be LG batteries but other info i found points to off brand Chinese cells? would really love to know before i buy a Zero 9 here locally, the zero 9 im looking at comes from FalconPev apparently but they havent responded to my mail asking this question. Thanks for the vid!
I would give them a call ....but I will ask my awesome repair guy Mike at RTG when I pop by on Wednesday :)
@@TimsElectric awesome man, much appreciated, keep up the good work on the vids!
thank you so much :) :)
hello sir i watched your video here, and here in Malaysia i cant decide if im gonna get the zero 9 or zero 10x. (no zero 10 here). my weight is 84kg and got afew local hills here, below 30 degree. what do u think which one should i choose? does zero 9 is capable enough to go uphill? i like to bring my scooter with mr whenever i travel coz i travel alot
for commuting I think the Zero 9 is fun and easy to store on buses etc...but for longer range and comfort the bigger 10x is awesome :) hope that helps :)
@@TimsElectric i dont think i will go on long range. i just want a casual ride with my 5 years old son, around my house area and also maybe sometimes riding alone in town. around my house also got an uphill below 20 degree. and some other friend also recommend ultron t103, bigger watt but cheaper than z10x. what do u think? with my weight, zero 9 is just nice?
@@TimsElectric yea i like the thing zero 9 has 18kg weight only
I don't know the Ultron but it looks awesome...the 10x or Varla are both excellent and I loved my Zero 9...super easy to carry around :)
Im assuming you went to uvic. What hill were talking about?
Up Foul Bay road after Fort on my way to UVIC :)
@legality question of scooters. According to ICBC its illegal on all roadways except private property or on trails or pathways (if allowed by municipal bylaw).
good to know...sounds like the law hasn't been updated yet as I can't imagine why they would be illegal...no emissions, no congestion, no parking issues, same thing happening in the UK :)
Timothy West Hi, this is what I found at mclartywolf.com. “All of these forms of transportation are illegal in Vancouver, except on private property. A 2017 memo from the city engineer noted that these low-powered vehicles are not designed to meet federal safety standards, which means they cannot pass the Provincial Commercial Vehicle Safety inspection or be eligible for insurance from the ICBC.
They are, however, defined as motor vehicles in the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act. Because of that classification, a person riding an electric scooter on a Vancouver street or bike path could be subject to a ticket for operating a motor vehicle without insurance - a fine of $598.”
my brand new zero 9 makes a loud clunking sound in the front suspension whenever i hit small bumps. Does yours make that sound too?
Hi Dean, sorry to hear...no...it's smooth...no noise...can you take video? maybe if you post a short video so I can see? where did you buy it? Maybe they can help?
Hi Tim,
Question, the place where you got your E. scooter did they advised you to when you should change your tire??
I don't recall Ricky...but I think I'm due now...it's really dry right now so as soon as the first rain comes (usually late August), I'll pop in and get a new pair.
Timothy West
You are a very lucky man to have a retail shop where you can just pop in and purchase repair, and upgrade your scooter if you wanted to.
When You are due for a replacement tire, I would appreciate if you can do a CZcams on it and let us all viewers how long your tire lasted before replacing it with a new tire.
Thanks Tim.
Hi Ricky, that''s a terrific idea...I will certainly be replacing them at the end of the summer, ahead of the rains :) I just did a how to on how to fix a flat tire :) but replacing both I will aim to make a video about...:) cheers from Victoria :)
Is the Zero 9 48v-10ah still a good buy?
It's my daily driver :)
I like it a lot...there are other scooters with options and features that I like better but overall I'm really happy with my Zero 9
I'll be doing a 2000km review soon :)
Cheers
How is the battery health? I'm trading my Ninebot G30 Max for this :)
I've been really happy with it...I'll be doing a 2000km review in the coming days (it just needs to warm up a bit) :)
since you have riden both zero 9 and zero 10? Can you tell me if there's a noticable difference in power and climbing up hills between the two?
CroCopNo1 1000w motor vs 600w. Should be a difference inn climbing
Terrific question :) CroCop was awesome :) I actually did a video on this (the video quality is rough) Here's the link: czcams.com/video/7X__rwIO9KA/video.html
Thanks Banzi, I was surprised that the difference wasn't a lot more...I did a video on this here: czcams.com/video/7X__rwIO9KA/video.html
@@TimsElectric I actually watched that video but since timewise there wasnt really a difference I wanted to hear from your personal perspective how you felt they performed. I want to get zero 10 but zero 9 is smaller and more portable, I weight around 180lbs and would need zero 9 to get me up some steeper hills. Cheers
Oh i c :) I will be doing a Zero 10 review (all by itself later this week)....I actually chose the 9 and the hills here are everywhere...bottom line...I think the Zero 9 and you being 180lbs should be plenty of power for hills...plus carrying it up and down the stairs I think you'll find is a bit easier...unless you were in San Francisco with a killer long hill on your route then I think the 9 would suffice :)
I am 120kg do you think the Zero 10x is good for me uphill ?
Loved it...just reviewed it today :) czcams.com/video/awJxwOH7xTg/video.html
I'm 130kg. Would this Zero 9 be ok for me?
You're about the same as me...if you don't have to bring it up the stairs like I do then I would probably look at the 10...it's not much more expensive...it's bigger and has a larger battery and motor...alas I have many stairs to contend with so I went with the smaller one :) Happy trails Rob :)
@@TimsElectric thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I can't afford a 10! I got the 9 from Facebook, pre owned with 50 miles done. Paid £600. That a good deal? You seem to be ok on it, what's your top speed? Also how far can you get on it on a full charge. Thanks 👍
If I remember it was about 20 kms...I actually did a short 2min video here: czcams.com/video/i55V15co_XM/video.html
Typically I hit about 30km/hr cruising...sometimes 34ish...downhill all bets are off lol :)
If I know I have a long trip ahead and don't need to get there fast I pop it in 1st gear and leave it on cruise control and it's range is greatly improved :) Cheers Tim
@@TimsElectric Thanks Tim, very informative. I am getting it tomorrow so hopefully it's good, I has a m365 before that was a bit rubbish. My friend has a Ninebot max and it's great. I'm hoping this will be even better. It's good to see it can hold your weight as we're similar. Do you go of curbs and back up them ok? I was scared to do it on the m365 as you can feel every bump! Also how do you find the tyres? Apparently they can be bad for punctures, I may get some slime to improve them!
I think you'll like it a lot more than the m365...more robust for sure :) To answer your questions, I don't go off curbs as I don't want to break it :) or get a puncture...I have noticed that I do get the occasional flat tire but will be putting in some slime or something in the coming days and will make a video about it :) Happy trails :) cheers
hi friend this zero 9 can handle 130 kg? or its the km very reduced with this weight?im thinking on this, ruima mini 4 pro or janobike t10 but this zero 9 is the most i liked
It depends on the terrain, wind in your case. You might find if it's relatively flat and no strong head winds that you'll be fine but the distance will be reduced. I find that I can only get around 16kms but I'm sure if I lost 90lbs it would go a lot further :) Cheers Tim
@@TimsElectric thx for the help friend very helpfull take care :D
cheers :)
I cant wait to get my zero 10 x but getting the 60V 21 AH wich is a bit more. I would love the Dutron Thunder but here in the UK not sure if its a good Idea to get one 🤯🤪🛴🛴🚓🚔
reviewed the Zero 10x today...amazing machine :) czcams.com/video/awJxwOH7xTg/video.html Dutron is in my future to test :)
Hey man, how does it do going up hills?
I'm happy with it...slows down because of my size but acceptable on these local hills :)
@@TimsElectric whats your weight sir? in kilogram
Is it 500w in total or 500 watts on each wheels?
Zero 9 is a single 600watt motor I believe Jason :)
@@TimsElectric on a website that sells a ton of e scooters there is the special edition and standard. The special edition has 500 watts and the standard 600 watts, yet they still have the same specs
Hi Jason...I'm sure you're right...it seems manufacturers are changing specs all the time...near impossible to keep up :) My guess is that the peek power is the same on both...maybe you can get a deal on one of them?
How does it do on grass.
It's ok ...but under powered for off-roading...the occasional foray but otherwise I'm on tarmac :)
What speed do you hit
Typically I cruise at about 30 km/h and seem to top out around 34ish
Hey! I started a group on facebook, "Electric Scooter Club Victoria BC" join up lets go for a ride sometime! sunday 3-5 of us are meeting up for a ride :)
Hi Josh, thanks for the invite...I'll go take a look for it...I'm hardly on social media but will take a peek and join up :) :)
3:01 Oh! If everyone could be like you Timothy! :-)
I get so pissed off when i see irresponsible people driving these.
If it where not for these fools we would not need speed restriction laws in norway (22 KM/H, 15 MP/H).
(The manufacturer has to put a lock on them so they cant go any faster than this).
I would love it if i could buy one and go 40 km/h (30mph) in the bike lane, but noooo.
Yep...we have a few tools out there...probably get some restrictions to one day :)
275 pounds - the perfect weight for a great guy. :-D
225lbs is the goal ...hopefully by this time next year :) cheers Sunny :)
I'm 300 so I'm not sure this'll hold my weight long term maybe I need the G-Booster.
