This is the Barbieheimer of booktube
Lmao that's the perfect way to describe it
Accurate
Are you saying cosmere is barbie??
@@kiritokazuto2398 i think he meant two of the greatest writers alive each one with his own different style
Right on the thumbnail
I love Pratchett's take on Tolkien
“J.R.R. Tolkien has become a sort of mountain, appearing in all subsequent fantasy in the way that Mt. Fuji appears so often in Japanese prints. Sometimes it’s big and up close. Sometimes it’s a shape on the horizon. Sometimes it’s not there at all, which means that the artist either has made a deliberate decision against the mountain, which is interesting in itself, or is in fact standing on Mt. Fuji.”
― Terry Pratchett
“I would rather take cheese graters to my eyes instead of writing”. Joe Abercrombie, one of the best fantasy writers of the current era.
😂😂😂
such a way with words
Life is Books written between disappointments
"What do you love about grimdark fantasy?"
Joe: "It paid for my house."
(From a reddit thread)
He’s the best fantasy writer of all time. No other author has done dialogue or character work like him
Nothing is more relatable than early on when Daniel tried to say something 3 times and just accepted it wasn't meant to be.
Probably best he kept to the back seat and let both of them drive instead and just provided brief driving instructions.
What did he say?
It's at 7:50 for those who are looking.
Daniel?
I couldn't see Sanderson's feet. There's nothing you can say that would convince me he wasn't typing a new book with his toes.
😂
He wrote three books in his head during this interview.
Daniel asks a single question then the Bois just talk for 10+ min ahhhh I love it.
Abercrombie and Sanderson are only two of the great storytellers of the current generation. It is expected for writers like them to talk in length.
Daniel *literally* putting himself into the corner and just letting these guys roll is a testament to his wisdom as a host.
It really is, it seems counterintuitive but all he wanted was to listen to these two talk to each other and they were doing it LOL
Yeah, his awareness and contextual decision to let them run with their conversation is impressive.
Smart guy. Just seamlessly blended himself into the background once he got the conversation going the way he wanted.
Thank you so much for arranging this, Daniel. Two of my favorite authors in conversation. Not often I thoroughly watch an interview to the end, but time flew by.
Totally agree, this was absolutely epic, the conversation just flowed, if only it could have been 10 hours longer :D
Daniel, you did a great job with the interview. Just stayed quiet and let them ask eachother questions. Very well done.
Agree 100%.
i wanted to say this very thing. Some interviews you learn to just let the subjects talk. Good interviewers are there to facilitate and get people talking. To guide. So when it's going well you get out of the way.
Just one little criticism though: The couches as background appears to be too ambitious. It might have been a lot better if it is a plain simple background like one color and Daniel is either on the center with the two authors on the left and right or on the top or screen. I mean, this is still a Daniel Greene's Channel, right? We still need to see his appearance even if he only asks questions. We seem to have lost the brand image of Daniel by resizing him on the right side.
I love the part toward the end "Is anything unadaptable?" "No." "I'm sending that to Steven Erikson right now."😂
I love you Daniel. I feel for you every time you tried to interject and got talked over by these Legends. While I selfishly saying to myself, shut up Daniel, you're ruining my sando-crombie main course delight. You rolled with the punches maintaining your vital disheveled attributes. Well done.
Joe being a Rivers of Blood build guy somehow is fitting.
He absolutely would find the smoothest way to beat the game and exploit it shamelessly. My spirit animal.
The crazy thing is that I got recommended Joe Abercrombie through watching Brandon Sanderson's lecture videos. When he talks about breaking in and the notes he received, he pretty much says "They really wanted Joe Abercrombie, but didn't know it yet". To add to the magic, I was broke but had an audible credit at the time. Now I've got everything of his on Audible, which a lot of people think is the best way to consume them. 🤘
Never in my lifetime did I ever anticipate watching two masters of the fantasy genre just casually discussing their builds in Elden Ring.
On ambercrombie is a ROB user 😂
Props to Daniel for sitting back and letting these two have the floor. We got a natural flowing conversation that was so enjoyable to watch.
It made me laugh how at 1:03:33 when Daniel said a Cosmere book was probably published during the live stream, it looked like Brandon thought "wait, _do_ we have any book coming out right now?" for half a second before going "oh, lol, it was a joke of course."
lol, I thought Brandon might have actually had a book coming out for a moment as well
This was so good, my 2 favorite authors just chatting for an hour straight, the only problem was that it wasn't 10x longer. Congrats on managing to set this up Dan, and thanks as well for just letting them chat when they got onto a tangent! Was wonderful!
I could have watched hours of these two go at it with each other, like Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series. It’s incredibly interesting to see two masters of their crafts interview each other on their respective processes. Kudos to Daniel for setting this up!
Holy hell that did not feel like one hour at all! I need these 2 to do a podcast right now!!!! Great work Daniel
59:10 Joe is trying so hard not to laugh at the phrase “religious nonfiction” 😂
that was great man. thanks Daniel. you are the goat. THE GOAT
This was truly one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen. Kudos to Daniel for allowing the back and forth rather than trying to barge in with questions.
Finished Cosmere last year, finished WoT this year. Starting Joe’s books now…
Have fun!!
Not sure if audiobooks are your thing, but you'd be doing yourself a massive favor if you listened to all of Abercrombie's work vs reading it. Best writer/narrator duo in all of fiction imo. His work stands among the top of the fantasy pantheon in its own right, but Pacey's narration is what elevates his books (particularly the Age of Madness trilogy and the stand alones) into some of the greatest tales ever told. Enjoy!!
@@rolloiii5164 About that... how does one even get into listening to audiobooks? Is Audible all there is? (If yes, that's okay. Just point me in a direction and I'll figure it out, but would definitely appreciate some guidance)
@@rolloiii5164 Personally strongly recommend reading first, listening later. I'd always recommend reading personally first, never rob yourself of that individual-to-you experience.
Who else would kill to read each of these guys write a short story set in the other's universe?
This is such a great idea lol
I would do anything to have this become a reality! I would love to see a character like one of Abercrombie’s in the cosmere.
Sanderson: "When we read an Abercrombie book, we want to HEAR Abercrombie!"
Correction: "When we read an Abercrombie book, we want to hear Steven Pacey!" 😂
I have never seen Daniel this happy before, he's sitting in a personal podcast lol
3 GOATS, 2 chairs, a fern, and a goblin with a dagger. What’s not to love? It was an awesome hour, thank you very much!
Fifth Sorceress. My god. Why did you resurrect that in my mind!? It was finally gone after 20+ years!
Hahaha this was a lot of fun. Didn't get through a ton of questions because they're both so charismatic and chatty, but the conversation was really enjoyable.
I love how you just realised they won't stop talking and made your self smaller. that was really funny. :) but still great questions and great interview. :)
This was such a fun live stream! I loved the whole conversation. Thank you for this Daniel!
I’d love a Steven Erikson and Brandon Sanderson one!
That would be amazing
People underestimate the range that George R.R. Martin has especially with his older work.
this was simply amazing. i wish it was 5 hours long.
Sandercrombie, love to see it! I could listen to these guys talk shop for multiple hours, but one will do for now. I wonder if you're looking to set up other two-author chats.
Now you should get a stream together where PatRoth sits and writes for an hour. Then do it 700 more times so we can get book 3.
OK this made me laugh 😅
Invite GRRM too :D
I discovered the blade itself randomly on a bookshelf in a public library when I was like 11 years old. It is shocking to me, to an insane degree how many people I know who love fantasy that have never heard of Abercrombie. It was a total happy accident that I do know him and his work.
I do think that despite a live-action adaptation having more credibility/oomph in the industry, a series like Mistborn and Stormlight feel like they are better suited for animated works because there is a lot of action and motion that goes into the magic systems of those worlds, and I personally find that animation can capture that better than a heavily VFXed movie.
Totally agree, I always imagined Mistborn as an animated series, it would work much better than live action imho
I agree that animation would be the only way to feasibly adapt the storm light archive, but u r dead wrong about mistborn and that series might be even better as a live action series with CGI elements.
Quality meets Quantity.
I just hope Sanderson reads this and knows that Tress of the Emerald Sea was so magical and wonderful and beautiful and i'm so forever grateful for having been able to experience such a wonderful and thoughtful story.
33:25 that’s EXACTLY how I started reading Joe Abercrombie. Finished the entire cosmere (twice😅) and wanted something new in fantasy
Brandon did a great job the one time I met him at DragonCon. Made sure everyone got a chance to ask him a question in his signature line. What a monster.
so evil....
Hearing Brandon Sanderson talking to Daniel and Joe about how great the one piece adaptation is is something special.
34:20 Guy Gavriel Kay as an author's author! I listened to one of his books a year ago and loved the quality. It was recommended to me by someone I was swapping fantasy stories with.
I need to listen to more of his work.
Ah perfect I have the Blade Itself on my reading list. Just what I need.
What Sanderson said about burning out on fantasy in 00s, I hit a slump for exactly the reasons he stated. I stopped reading fantasy for years and gravitated towards comics/manga. I've rediscovered my passion for it in the last few years, there are so many great authors and series with so much diversity, I feel like a teenager dipping my toe back in. I've a TBR that's going to last me years. Both these authors have contributed to this. I loved this interview, thank you
What a wonderful experience it was just listening to these two Goats ❤❤
author 1, when asked what he likes most about author 2's work, answered, in effect, "he's a good businessman." author 2 didn't not (=did) notice.
i am currently reading Hero of Ages and Best Served Cold, how did i just find out this exist?!?
Absolutely brilliant content. We really should get a show with Daniel Greene about books on Netflix or Amazon.
I'm so happy Michael Moorcock and Jack Vance were mentioned
31:27 funnily enough when I was reading Eye of the World I was like "yeah, I've read Fellowship of the Ring already"
This flashed up randomly on my feed today, I'm so glad I took the time to watch it - absolutely brilliant. Kudos to Daniel for stepping back very early on and just letting Joe and Brandon talk!
More of this please!
Brandon's shoutout to GGK made my day.
Seeing Sanderson with a beard is like seeing your friend who always wears glasses not wear glasses
My two favorite writers, wow. Thank you so much for putting this together, amazing!
As a person from Spain PLEASE COME BACK TO THE CELSIUS FESTIVAL💜💜💜💜💜
Just started listening to this, I hope Abercrombie was asked about Glokta and if he was going to write more with him in! Nothing else matters!!
My 2 favourite authors on screen together chatting away, this was too awesome. Love your channel Daniel, you really know how to moderate big personalities and your content is top notch as always.
Good job Daniel. You knew how to steer the conversation here but also how to let them just talk and go off topic and create the beauty that is two of the best writers in the world at the moment talking to each other.
My two favourite writers! Absolutely love it!
I finished all of the Sanderson books then discovered Abercrombie right after. Just finished the last book in the First Law series. The difference between the two author's styles are immense but I enjoyed them both equally. Moved onto the Powdermage Triliogy and am really enjoying that too.
Sorry for rambling. Just wanna say this is kind of surreal for me seeing two authors who recently affected my understanding of the genre so much chatting together. They have both inspired me to start writing.
The ice, Daniel. The ice.
Two of my favorite three authors! Great fun, thank you.
Who is your third?
@@nariandez Adrian Tchaikovsky
@@ChristianBullock ok I got it thanks
Thus was simply a joy to watch
Brandon saying everyone needs Morcock made my day. 😅
Why I am giggling at three adult men talking for an hour??? This is better than half the movies out there
Daniel, great job having the humility to step back and just let these two great authors chat with each other. Great interview.
Amazing interview
Amazing guests, fantastic content. Biggest shout out to Daniel for killing the role of host, allowed for a natural conversation with 2 legends, just coming in with questions and morsels to inspire the next topic, brilliant work mate.
I never realized how much Brandon Sanderson looks like Rich Evans. God works in mysterious ways.
This was amazing!
This was brilliant
This was great ❤
As hard as it is to accept it brandon is right about animation. Do i think you can often tell a better story capturing all the beauty and nuance of a world with animation? Yes.
But then i get to someone like my sister in law. Mid 20s, huge kpop and kdrama fan. Shes watched a ton of shows with me and my brother on reccomendation and loved everything. Has watched 1 out of the 70 odd animated shows and movies we reccomended.
A lot of people still hold the idea that animation is for kids. And that needs a decade or more to begin to change
Awesome interview!
This was....amazing
Awesome man. This was a blast!!
love that these are a thing. so glad that their is a platform for the types of conversations and that i get to be a fly on a wall watching them :] thank you daniel
How wonderful!
Abercrombie is my all time number 1 guy and I love him and his books to high heaven. That said, the man that got me BACK into fantasy reading after 10-12 years away was Sanderson when I kept seeing/hearing about Stormlight Archive and gave it a go and fell in love. For a bit there in 2020-2021 Sanderson was my modern fave. Then Abercrombie has completely and utterly taken over my life since. Still gosh dang what a GREAT couple of guests, a yin Yang of modern fantasy writing, both masters! What a pleasure and thank you!
Tnx mate it was great
This was fantastic! Great interview
EPIC podcast. Thanks Daniel
Awesome stream ❤
My two favourite book authors together! AND IT ISN'T CHRISTMAS YET?!
Live action Flatland adaptation would be wild lol
This was a fantastic chat all round, thank you very much for setting this up Daniel .
Thank you for doing this! ❤
What a great duo interview!!
This was awesome
Wow, what a stream. Good work facilitating this, Daniel, and good job hosting!
This is an excellent interview!
that was fantastic
Thanks for this interview! Fantastic!
I'm sorry I missed this live, but it was still fantastic. Thanks so much for making this happen, Daniel!
This is fantastic
Great stuff, Thank you mr. Goblin. Kudos !
Denis Villeneuve doing The First Law Trilogy would be more than my heart could take.
