" Dubhe’s rendition of Song of Longing for the Panchen Lama is another big hit that gives voice to Tibetan concerns. It articulates the public grief and despondency felt by Tibetans following the sudden death of the 10th Panchen Lama on January 28th, 1989. It eulogises and mourns a modern national hero who gave leadership, protection, and solace to the Tibetans inside Tibet during those dark times. The song is an expression of an immense sense of loss as well as a nod to the pivotal role of the 10th Panchen Lama in the regeneration of the Tibetan culture and pro- motion of the Tibetan language following the Cultural Revolution."
