    Alien 3 for me. After everything that happened in Aliens and everything they went through to survive, even Ripley winning a fight against the queen, to just kill off Hicks and Newt in the opening sequence in what was effectively an offscreen kill was horribly disheartening. To later go on to Bishop being irreparable and Ripley dying to the one thing she feared most also put a bad taste in my mouth. Made me feel like the entirety of Aliens was for nothing. I get that a lot of people like the more dismal tone and the tragic aspect of the whole thing, but it just felt really unsatisfying to me.

    • @denisebacher5040

      I don’t like Aliens 3. Granted I like it better than 4, but that’s not saying much.
      I was furious we lost Newt and Hicks.
      Maybe I could understand losing one of them ( I gather the girl didn’t want to do more acting) but you can’t tell me both were “Nah I’m good.”
      But if you read the wiki page for the movie it looks like they never thought of Biehn at all after a script written by Brandywyne Productions ( people who started the film series) wanting Hicks to be the main protagonist for #3 and him and Ripley taking down Weyland-Yutani on a two part film. It looks fascinating.
      It just fell apart with Fox studios getting too involved and other bs.
      But why they killed off Hicks and Newt is not discussed.

    As far as reversing the original film goes, the Bogeyman franchise takes the cake. The original is about a supernatural Entity, but the second claims that it never existed and the original protagonist was actually insane and the killer for part 2 is a copycat. But then came part three that not only brought back the supernatural Bogeyman but also blamed him for the events of part 2!

      Agreed. I think Book of Shadows is a very underrated movie, and I will die on that hill. Just making another FF movie would have been so boring, BoS takes a really interesting, meta look at the hype generated by the original film. Of course, the execution is more than a little wobbly, none of the characters are terribly interesting, and the time travel plot device thingy is woefully underutilised, but considering how much hate it gets it's actually surprisingly ok, with a lot of great late nineties camp value. The 2016 version, on the other hand, not so much. And let's face it, with a movie with a premise as thin as BWP, it was pretty unlikely we were ever going to get a truly great sequel...

    I'm clearly in a minority here, based on other people's comments, but I really liked Cotton (probably because I liked Live Schreiber a lot). His moral ambiguity made him quite interesting. He wasn't a psychopath, but he wasn't a Boy Scout either. I really hated him getting killed in the beginning of Scream 3 (along with the stupidity of the new voice machine). I wouldn't necessarily have minded Cotton dying later in the film, but having him die right away was just a waste of an established character.

  • @tjfrizzi5965
    @tjfrizzi5965 Před 9 měsíci +7

    Well somebody is either a huge Cotton or Liev Schreiber fan... lol He's basically IMO a red herring in all the Scream movies. That was his total purpose in the franchise. Not that it's a bad thing. Personally I did not latch on to his character in any way, except that Schreiber's Intensity in the 2nd movie. But that was again just to have his character be considered in the misdirection on who the killer was. Scream 3 has my least favorite opening scene so far in the entire franchise. Yes, it was about cutting loose ends and reigniting Sydney's already revving up anxiety, but that as well as his character just falls flat for me. The actor is great. I just didn't care about Cotton much.
    I don't know every Horror fan. But this is news to me he's considered such a complex and interesting "favorite" character in the series.

But I think that now it's common knowledge that was never meant to be Michael at the end of H20. Heck, if I remember right, the flashback scene in Resurrection showing Michael in the paramedic uniform as the ambulance is speeding out of Hillcrest was actually filmed during H20's production....

    I will never understand the love for Cotton in the scream films. In the first one, sure, he was wrongly accused, but in the second he was a total creepy asshole to Sydney and actually thought about killing her until he basically forced her into something she didn't want, which is a rape allegory, and it still makes him a complete dick. He also doesn't take no for an answer from Sydney several times in the film, which also fits that's disgusting allegory. In the 3rd one, he's actively flirting with someone on the phone when he think it's a female fan of his despite him having a girlfriend. While he does show that he cares about her, he also seemed like he was willing to cheat on her. He's not a good person, and is one of the biggest asshole victims in the series.

    I'm sorry but Det. Carey's death in Saw III was perfect. It was meant to drive home the fact that Jigsaw's apprentice don't play by their teacher's rules. Jigsaw doesn't kill, he gives people a choice. But Amanda and Hoffman are killers, through and through

    • @TalentCaldwell
      @TalentCaldwell Před 9 měsíci +3

      Um… Jigsaw is entirely a killer. Bombers and arsonists are still responsible for the lives they take. Wouldn’t matter if they happen to give their captives a heads up that they have about 1 minute to escape or die. Also, HE designs every trap which are designed to kill, and it’s HIS voice on every tape talking to the specific victims he chooses for the flimsiest of reasons (ex. 2 guys unknowingly dating the same girl).
      He even called the rack in part 3 his favorite and that guy had zero choice in if he could live. Others who were also given no choice or chance to live were the other victims of part 3, the person he made Amanda kill in her bear trap to get a key, the employees on a shotgun carousel, the wife and son of the fraud from part 7, etc. Kramer also sliced the neck of the Asian detective in part 1 before leading him into a shotgun booby trap.
      Charles Manson and Hitler didn’t physically kill anyone either but they (like Jigsaw) created/designed/commanded various circumstances that resulted in the deaths of many many innocents.
      Try watching the films again (or even a kill count CZcams video) with all of that in mind.

  • @draygoon69
    @draygoon69 Před 9 měsíci +1

    Completely disagree with a couple of these. Book of Shadows while not great was still a good movie and the fact that it wasn't found footage is what made it good. I don't understand the hype behind Blair Witch Project. I watched that in the theater and the most entertaining part was I got to scare a group of teens sitting in front of me by scratching their chair during the climax. I found the whole movie stupid and boring. And as more movies followed the format, IMO the entire found footage style is asinine and makes things even less believable. All the stuff going on around them no one is going to keep holding onto a video camera.
    I feel the Nightmare on Elm Street remake get a lot of undeserved hate. They took it back to serious horror roots and eliminated the campiness of the later installments. They threw in some good homages to the original. And I don't see an issue with jumping into the horror a bit quicker in the intro. We got a quick introduction to what Freddy was capable from the jump. The character is so well known that we didn't really need a build up to get to him killing.

Stick around, die, and make his kids orphans, all to fulfill a fake standard of nobility imposed by audience members, at least most of whom have probably never had to make split second life or death decisions that would either result in a bad outcome or a worse outcome.
